Kovacevic moves back to Real Sociedad
SAINT-SEBASTIEN, Spain, Dec 26 (AFP)
Lazio's Yugoslav international forward Darko Kovacevic has signed a record-breaking five-year deal with former team Real Sociedad, the Basque club announced here Wednesday.
Kovacevic, who has spent much of his time in Rome warming the substitutes bench, is part of a 5.5 million dollar deal although Lazio will retain 50 per cent of the player's rights.
It is the biggest transfer in Sociedad's history.
The 28-year-old Kovacevic, who also failed to nail down a regular place at Juventus, became unsettled at Lazio when Hernan Crespo and Simone Inzaghi confirmed their impressive goalscoring partnership.
Real Sociedad, who are currently in the relegation zone in the Primera Liga, last week signed Liverpool's Dutch 'keeper Sander Westerveld on a three-year deal.

Kovacevic is a good striker, but he doesn't fit into Lazio's style of ply. It is a good move for him, since he was scoring a lot last time I watched him in R. Sociedad.
And now, it seems as if Lazio are looking for Rebrov, who is a very good player, but he won't have a chance to start in Lazio, and if I were him, I wouldn't move to Lazio, because he probably wants to play, and not sit on the bench.

Darko Kovacevic passed medical and is back with Real Sociedad. The former Lazio and Juventus striker said: 'I am fit and happy to be back. My promise is to score a lot of goals'.

Yep, and a good transfer fee as well, a bit higher than we expected.

I think Kova will do well at Sociedad. That's two great signings for Sociedad in the last couple of weeks. First they got Sander Westerveld, the keeper from Liverpool, and now Kova. They may even get a top 10 finish, you never know.

Darko Kavacevic who only signed for Real Sociedad a couple of days ago has had to return home due to a personal bereavement.
The Spanish side's record signing of $5.82 million dollars has returned to his home in Yugoslavia following the sudden death of his elder brother.
The club have released a brief statement saying that the player has left San Sebastian in order to return to his family.
Only on Sunday, the Yugoslav International has returned to the club for training and was welcomed back by a rapturous crowd.
