News

Injured pair
After two years and nearly 50 games in preparation, Ustaömer has lost two Galatasaray AS prospects on the eve of the tournament. Defender Semih Kaya is out and Cem Sultan – tipped as one of the attacking stars of the finals in Antalya – damaged knee ligaments in domestic action. Still, left-winger Eren Albayrak and striker Muhammed Demir could be fit for the 4 May kick-off against the Netherlands in Antalya, just as well considering Ustaömer's high opinion of all their Group A rivals, not just the Dutch who Turkey beat to win the 2005 final.

Recent Form:

EFA European Under-17 Championship hosts Turkey may have yet to play a competitive game but their record as a squad suggests a real chance of success.

Winning record
Coach Şenol Ustaömer said: "Our team has been together since they were U15 and played nearly 50 matches within two years. We have high hopes as they have won leading international friendly tournaments. Now we should repeat this with the UEFA European U17 Championship."

Results
Between July and December last year they lost just one of 12 fixtures, winning seven, and in January 2008 they travelled to Israel for the Winter Tournament and beat Ukraine 1-0 and the hosts 4-0 to finish first. Later that month they took on Romania twice – finishing 0-0 and 3-0 – and in February, two 1-1 draws with Israel preceded a 2-1 victory in Switzerland on 5 March. They completed their warm-up in April with another two fixtures with Romania; in the first match Özgür Çek's 26th-minute goal was cancelled out by George Sofroni after the break for a 1-1 draw, but two days later Batuhan Karadeniz and Cem Sultan were on target as Turkey won 2-1.

In Depth

For some observers, Turkey's sudden rise from international minnows to 2002 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists was a surprise. Anyone keeping an eye on UEFA youth tournaments will barely have raised an eyebrow and the success has continued in recent years with the UEFA European Under-17 Championship title in 2005.

Fine record
Since their victory in the 1992 U18 Championship, Turkey have been perennial contenders at all levels, right up to their 2004 U19 silver medal, their part on home soil in Europe's unbeaten 2005 UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup triumph and their supreme performance in the U17 finals later that year. They dumped out holders France in qualifying for that tournament and, after an unlucky 1-0 loss to hosts Italy in their finals opener, they were unstoppable. England were beaten 3-2 in one of the best games at any U17 Championship and Belarus were seen off 5-2.

Victory
In the semi-finals they beat Croatia 3-1 and goals from Deniz Yilmaz and Tefvik Köşe gave them the title 2-0 against the Netherlands. Köşe top-scored in the finals with six goals and Nuri Şahin pulled the strings, as he did again in helping them to the FIFA U-17 World Cup semis. For the last two years they have fallen in the Elite round, securing just one draw and one win over those six matches. But as hosts this season chances of a 2005 repeat are very realistic.

Key players:
Turkey are without two key players through injury; Galatasaray AS defender Semih Kaya and his club-mate, talented forward Cem Sultan. However, striker Muhammed Demir and influential left-winger Eren Albayrak could both be fit for the tournament and despite Sultan's absence there is no shortage of attacking flair, notably in the shape of Beşiktaş JK forward Batuhan Karadeniz, who has scored more than 40 goals for Turkey's youth sides.

Coach Profile

Trabzon-born Şenol Ustaömer was a Fenerbahçe SK legend and Turkish international attacking left-back, and after a decade-long coaching career is aiming for UEFA European Under-17 Championship success.

Playing success
Born in 1961, Ustaömer was developed by local team Arsinspor before joining city giants Trabzonspor in 1980 and turning professional. After eight seasons there, and having made his Turkey debut in 1984 and claimed two further caps, he was snapped up by Fenerbahçe for a six-season spell in which he won the league title in his first campaign, the club scoring a record 103 goals, and became a fans' favourite with his pace, attacking attitude and powerful free-kicks.

National coach
Retiring as a player, he initially worked as a columnist for the Hürriyet newspaper, before moving into coaching in 1997/98 as assistant to Erdoğan Arıcaat Dardanelspor AS. Ustaömer later took the helm and also coached Kartalspor and Sarıyer before joining the Turkish Football Federation. In 2005 he took Turkey to the FIFA U-20 World Cup last 16, and has now prepared the U17 side for the European finals on home soil.

Key Players

Turkey:

Turkey are without two key players through injury; Galatasaray AS defender Semih Kaya and his club-mate, talented forward Cem Sultan. However, striker Muhammed Demir and influential left-winger Eren Albayrak could both be fit for the tournament and despite Sultan's absence there is no shortage of attacking flair, notably in the shape of Beşiktaş JK forward Batuhan Karadeniz, who has scored more than 40 goals for Turkey's youth sides.

Holland:

There is a familiar surname in the Dutch midfield in the shape of AFC Ajax midfielder Rodney Sneijder, Wesley's younger brother. The top scorer in qualifying with seven goals was Geoffrey Castillion, who in March followed Sneijder in signing a professional contract at Ajax. At the back Jeffrey Bruma was signed by Chelsea FC last year from Feyenoord at the age of just 15.

Serbia:

FK Vojvodina midfielder Danijel Aleksić captains the team and, in his Serbia role as striker, led them to Turkey with five Elite round goals, more than any other player across all seven groups. FK Partizan midfielder Adem Ljajić is tipped to go far and left-winger Predrag Stevanović is now at FC Schalke 04. Right-back and winger Aleksandar Ignjovski, who plays for coach Dejan Djurdjević 's old club OFK Beograd, is also an emerging talent.

Scotland:

Captain John Fleck, who has followed uncle Robert in playing for Rangers FC and Scotland, was the hero in qualifying with his winner in the decisive game against Slovenia and made his senior club debut in the Scottish Cup back in January. His Rangers colleague Grant Adam keeps goal and striker Archie Campbell is also highly-rated. Fleck is not the only player with a family connection in football; winger Alex Cooper is the son of Neale Cooper, who helped Aberdeen FC to the 1983 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

France:

Olympique Lyonnais striker Clément Grenier and Yannis Tafer are the leading scorers with 13 goals between them this season, including friendly games. Chelsea FC playmaker Gaël Kakuta, who moved from RC Lens last summer, struck twice in the decisive 3-1 qualifying win against Russia and then returned to his club to score in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup final against Manchester City FC. Midfielder Gueida Fofana of Le Havre AC captains the team.

Spain:

Following the likes of Iker Casillas, Cesc Fabregas and Bojan Krkić is a daunting prospect but Juan Santisteban has another talented selection of players to call on. Bojan's FC Barcelona colleague Rubén Rochina leads the line with Liverpool FC's Daniel Pacheco while there is plenty of talent in midfield with Real Betis Balompié's Manuel Gavilán, Real Racing Club de Santander's Sergio Canales and Keko of Club Atlético de Madrid.

Ireland:

As always the squad is a mixture of domestic-based talent and players snapped up by clubs from across the Irish Sea. Among the latter contingent is Blackburn Rovers FC winger Aaron Doran, and it was his free-kick that set up club-mate Gavin Gunning to head the goal that took Ireland to the finals. Manchester City FC's Greg Cunningham can play on the wing or up front and delighted fans in his native Galway with a vital equaliser against Germany.

Switzerland:

Débonnaire told uefa.com: "Defender Philippe Koch, who is very fit, is super in the air, very quick and knows how to read a game. Almost the same goes for Michael Lang who is paired with Koch in defense. Taulant Xhaka and Steven Ukoh in midfield are real team-players, they live and die for a team, their spirit is an example to the other players. And then of course there’s defender Fabio Daprelà, who has already played nine Super League matches for his club despite being only 17. He is also very powerful and shows the others the direction to go."

They got it all on the money...

I'm going to go far on this and say that Serbia and Turkey make it to the Semi Finals.
I don't think Holland has what it takes this year. They are the only remaining threath.

Sucks Bosnia didn't get here, we deserved to considering we beat Holland and should've beaten Norway and Hungary had the refs not given those 20 fake offsides rofl

Spain will lift the title because they simply have the best young players in Europe.

Here is our lineup

"Dejan Đurđević has announced a squad of 22 players for the preperations at Stadiona OFK Beograda and Ade Ciganlije.

Nemanja Gudelj is the most noticeable addition to this team, he plays for NAC Breda. Haven't seen him play, personally, but I've heard good things about him.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Vilson Caković (FK Crvena Zvezda), Marko Nikolić (FK Partizan)

Defenders: Milan Milanović (FC Lokomotiv Moscow), Stevan Smederevac (OFK Beograd), Nenad Stjepić (OFK Beograd), Milan Rodić (OFK Beograd), Zlatko Liščević (FK Crvena Zvezda), Nebojša Gavrilović (FK Partizan), Jovan Krneta (FK Partizan)

Midfielders: Predrag Stevanović (FC Schalke 04), Nemanja Gudelj (NAC Breda), Aleksandar Ignjovski (OFK Beograd), Goran Brkić (OFK Beograd), Adem Ljajić (FK Partizan), Vuk Mitošević (FK Vojvodina), Luka Milivojević (FK Radnički Niš), Andrej Mrkela (FK Crvena Zvezda)

Attackers: Danijel Aleksić (FK Vojvodina), Aleksandar Đoković (FK Partizan), Marko Rajić (FK Zemun), Marko Obradović (FK Zemun), Ilija Ilić (FK Crvena Zvezda)

Turkey better watch out for Adem Ljajic...

And of course Danijel Aleksic who is leading scorer of the whole u-17 tournament with 7 goals =D

We need to get Pjanic a Serbian Passport.
Even though he has nothing to do with Serbia. Why would anyone want to play for a shithole country like Bosnia who has never qualified for a World Cup! lmao
