Ivan Klasnic's return to football

Ivan Klasnic has played his first game in a Werder Bremen shirt since his kidney operation in March of this year. In a friendly game with the reserves against non-league SF Wüsting-Altmoorshausen on Thursday evening, the striker was involved for 45 minutes and hit the target twice in a game that was 7:0 by half time. The Croatian scored with a headed and a clever back heel before being replaced, as was arranged, at the break. The 26 year old was joined by Brazilian Carlos Alberto who also took part for one half of the match. The game finished 9:0 with the goals being scored by Klasnic (19’/24’), Martin Harnik (28’/31’/40’), John Jairo Mosquera (12’/37’), Julian Grundt (56’) and Marc Heider (80’).

After the game, Ivan Klasnic spoke exclusively to WERDER.TV and explained happily: “I was really delighted to have been allowed play today. I’d been waiting for this moment. It went very well although the pitch was pretty difficult to play on. You don’t forget how to play football though.” The front man admitted that it was a strange feeling having been away from competitive football for almost a year. “That’s quite normal. If you haven’t played for eleven months, you’ve got to get used things again. You need time for the routine to return to play. That gets better from minute to minute and the self-confidence returns with it. I’m really happy to have scored too”, Klasnic told WERDER.TV, who will present pictures from the game on Friday.

Following the success of the friendly, Klasnic is now ready for the next challenge and the next step: “I’ve always performed well under pressure and that is not a problem for me at the moment at all. I intend to put on the pressure so as to get back out on the pitch again as soon as possible.”

General manager Klaus Allofs, who was joined at the match by head coach Thomas Schaaf and central defender Naldo amongst the 1,000 fans at the game, was delighted to see the Croatian back: “Ivan look really mobile and scored one great goal. I see the performance positively without raising the bar for further tasks. Just like his first jog or his first training session with the team, this is another step along the road to his return.” Allofs was again wary of creating too much euphoria: “We will not be putting any time pressure on him. We are working without a schedule. Ivan’s participation tonight was decided at short notice and that’s how we’ll do things in future. We will both have to be patient together even if Ivan is raring to make his next step.”

Nakon skoro godinu pauze, Klasnić odigrao za Werder II u Kupu Njemačke!

Ivan Klasnić odigrao je u utorak navečer svoju prvu službenu utakmicu, nakon skoro godinu dana pauze zbog transplatacije bubrega!

Čudesni oporavak hrvatskog nogometnog reprezentativca uspješno je "zaključen" točno u 19 sati, kad je zaigrao u startnoj postavi Werder Bremena II, rezervne momčadi koja je u 2. kolu Kupa Njemačke ugostila St. Pauli!

Regularni tijek i produžeci završili su remijem - 2:2, a Werder je prošao dalje nakon boljeg izvođenja jedanaesteraca (4:2).

Kako život piše romane, Klasnić se, eto, vratio "pravom" nogometu upravo kontra svog matičnog kluba, aktualnog drugoligaša iz Hamburga!

Već sam nastup za Klasnića je velika pobjeda, a sve je još ljepše kad se zna da je Ivan sudjelovao u obje akcije u kojima je Werder II zabio pogotke (Schindler i Harnik).

Klasnić je zamijenjen u 68. minuti, umjesto njega ušao je Heider.

Bremen had extended his contract till summer of 2008. We should be seeing him make a come back into the A-team by wintertime

IVAN KLASNIĆ usudio se priznati koliko je bio nervozan uoči sinoćnje utakmice u njemačkom kupu, prve službene u kojoj je zaigrao nakon dugih 11 mjeseci oporavka.

Klasnić je igrao do 67. minute za Werderovu drugu (U23) momčad, koja se natječe u regionalnoj ligi, i to u utakmici drugog kola Njemačkog kupa protiv St.Paulija. Klasnić je zamijenjen pri vodstvu njegovog sastava od 2:1, a sudjelovao je kod oba pogotka. Njegovi su sinoćnji suigrači izborili plasman u sljedeću rundu kupa nakon boljeg izvođenja jedanaesteraca. A nakon emocionalne partije Klasnić nije mogao suspregnuti emocije;

"Uhvatio me čudan osjećaj dok sam dolazi na stadion. Cijelo mi je tijelo drhtalo i mislim da bih, da kojim slučajem nisam zaigrao, počeo plakati. Naporno sam radio proteklih mjeseci, mislim da sam i jako napredovao. Htio sam sinoć zabiti, obećao sam to svojoj kćeri, ali sretan sam što mi se uopće pružila prilika da ponovo budem terenu. Na početku utakmice bio sam pomalo nervozan, ali momčad mi je doista mnogo pomogla u ovom povratku. Sjajno su me dočekali i prihvatili."

Klasnićevi suigrači bili su impresionirani željom i upornošću koje je Klasnić pokazao da se vrati nogometnoj igri.

"Bio je to super povratak! Zapravo je nevjerojatno da je opet na terenu." - rekao je njegov sinoćnji partner u napadu Kevin Schindler, a s takvim se mišljenjem složio i vratar Nico Pellatz.

"Činjenica da Ivan opet igra nogomet je pravo čudo!"

Thomas Woler, trener pričuvne momčadi Werdera, imao je jednostavno objašnjenje:

"Postigli smo dogovor prije utakmice. Ukoliko on nama pomogne da prođemo u sljedeće kolo kupa, mi ćemo njemu pomoći u njegovom povratku." - rekao je Wolter i dodao:

"Uz Klasnića, najsretnija osoba zbog njegovog povratka na teren je moja kćerka. Ona je najveći obožavatelj Klasnića."

Kada su na red došle ozbiljnije teme, Ivan je rekao ponešto i o potencijalnom povratku u prvu momčad Werdera.

"Večeras je najvažnije da je moja momčad prošla dalje u kupu. Naravno da je moj cilj opet zaigrati za prvu momčad, no, vidjet ćemo kada će se to dogoditi." - zaključio je Klasnić, ne odbacivši mogućnost da u siječnju opet zaigra za pričuve Werdera u kupu."

Hard to say just yet. Some people come from big injuries and are even better players, I dunno if Ivan is one of those, but from what it seems, he has a new found love for the game, and I would think that's a normal feeling after coming from something that could have been fatal (from what I read).

I expect him to start after the winter transfer, if he has an explosive return to the bundesliga (Especially now with Klose gone from Werder, he might get more attention) I could see Bilic calling him up.

Klasnic went in at the 61t minute today for the first team! Did not score but he was impressive so I hear!

Congrats Ivan, hopefully we'll be seeing you in the NT soon enough
