Feyenoord Rotterdam v Roda JC Kerkrade: Preview

PA

ROTTERDAM, March 12 (Eredivisie) - Feyenoord coach Ruud Gullit has used his team's break in action to work on their fitness levels as the Eredivisie season enters into its crucial final stages.

The fourth-placed team's game at Den Bosch last weekend was postponed due to bad weather and Gullit's men will hope to keep up the pressure on the top-three with a victory over Roda JC, after a week where the coach was pleased with his squad's application.

He said: ``Because we didn't play on Sunday, we have trained very specifically this week, on condition and starting speed, that sort of thing. Everybody did well.''

Feyenoord have relatively few worries on the fitness front with only defender Chris Gyan (back) and midfielder Patrick Mtiliga (hip) ruled out.

Cory Gibbs, who was rushed to hospital after he had to be carried off the training field by his colleagues on Monday, is fit enough to play.

There were fears that the defender had broken his leg but luckily he only suffered bruising and was able to rejoin training later in the week.

Roda are in the middle of a poor run of form that has seen them slump into mid-table in the Eredivisie but coach Wiljan Vloet is accepting his share of the blame for his team's current predicament.

Five of their last seven games have resulted in defeat and the coach has questioned the mentality within the squad but refuses to be too critical.

He said: ``I am responsible for that too. That is why I am feeling terrible, I lie awake at nights thinking about how it is possible that I stand empty handed again and again with this group.

``There is a lot of quality. But I do not throw in the towel, that's not my style.

``Of course five defeats in the last seven games is disastrous for Roda JC but I am a fighter and I will make the team return to the right track again. The fans are entitled to that.''

Roda need a good result, and quickly, however Vloet realises the difficulty of achieving this goal at Feyenoord.

He added: ``Although Feyenoord aren't playing well they always score a goal. But for us it is of the utmost importance to get a good result again.''

Roda will be without the injured Kevin van Dessel while striker Cristiano is also doubtful as he may need surgery to clear up a knee problem.

Feyenoord Rotterdam 1-3 Heerenveen: FT Report

PA

ROTTERDAM, May 1 (Eredivisie) - Feyenoord missed out on the chance to secure a spot in the UEFA Cup next season as they slipped to a comprehensive home defeat to European rivals Heerenveen on Sunday.

A win would have secured Feyenoord's place in Europe, and although the fourth-placed Rotterdammers are still favourites to finish in that position come the end of the season, Heerenveen have now cut the gap to just six points.

Mika Vayrynen struck a first-half brace for Heerenveen, sandwiching an equaliser from Dirk Kuijt, and Petter Hansson wrapped up the visitors' first ever win at De Kuip.

Feyenoord's woes were compounded with nine minutes to go when substitute Danko Lazovic was sent off.

Heerenveen were on the attack straight away, and Daniel Hestad had a chance to put the visitors in front after seven minutes but his shot went high over the crossbar from eight yards out.

Vayrynen's first goal of the game came after 15 minutes when he collected Lasse Nilsson's fine ball into the penalty area and fired into the corner of the net.

Feyenoord struck back after 37 minutes when Karim Saidi set up Kuijt, who dribbled from the right side of the area before hitting an angled shot into the back of the Heerenveen net.

It was merely a blip for the visitors however, and they were soon back in charge when Klaas-Jan Huntelaar released Vayrynen on the left of the penalty area, and the 23-year-old midfielder produced a clinical finish to make it 2-1 after 41 minutes.

The second half saw less action in front of goal, although Heerenveen stayed in control.

They sealed the win in the 78th minute when Hansson rose to meet a Ugur Yildirim corner and headed Heerenveen's third goal from close range.

Feyenoord got's a new coach
Erwin Koeman. It's the brother of Ronald Koeman. He was this year the coach of RKC Waalwijk.
I hope he will do better than Ruud Gullit did this year

Anyone who gets to see Feyenoord play regularly - how well is de Guzman doing this season? I've heard he's supposed to be one of the best young talents in Holland but I've not seen him play yet.

He's the best player Feyenoord has at the moment, at least a player with the most potential.
What I like about him is his fighting spirit and the work he does for the team, even though he can be used alot more useful he doesn't complain and does his work.

It's difficult to say something good about a Feyenoord player if you support Ajax, but you can't deny De Guzman's talent, you'll definetely hear from him more in the future.

BTW bad news for Feyenoord, they got kicked out of the UEFA cup due to some fans rioting in Nancy.
I shouldn't really care, but it's pretty unfair and it hurts the Dutch UEFA rating list next year as well with another Dutch team not playing European football anymore.

They did file a complain and there's a very slight possibility the punishment will be undone.

I saw some of de Guzmans goals on the Web, and I saw him play in September against NAC. He got a good motor. He is still young so we will see if he can turn into a Van Persie. Langbaard is right about his potential.
The Canadian National team wants him on thier squad, he is undecided. He may try to claim Dutch citizenship and hope to get chosen for Oranje.

Feyenoord coach Erwin Koeman has resigned as clubcoach, main reasons for Erwin was he wasn't motivated anymore to be able to perform something with this team.

It doesn't really come as a suprise, as Feyenoord has been in a horrible season, finishing 7th place which has been a big blow to all the fans.

Add to that all the problems concering the UEFA cup football this season, I'm sure it will be a season Feyenoord will want to forget ASAP.

Koeman's assistent trainers Metgod and Duut will take up the remaining play-off matches where Feyenoord can still seal a ticket for the UEFA cup next season.

Different coaches has been named like Co Adriaanse, Mario Been, Willem Van Hanegem and Bert Van Marwijk.

Who will be brave enough to get Feyenoord out of this mess ?
