Full-time: Valencia v Celta Vigo
Soccernet.com
VALENCIA, October 6 (Primera Liga) - Rogerio Vagner's last-gasp winner ensured that Celta Vigo moved to the top of the table with a 1-0 smash-and-grab victory over defending champions Valencia, who were guilty of missing two penalties.
The game appeared to be heading for a goalless draw until Celta broke upfield deep into stoppage time and Eduardo Coudet was brought down by goalkeeper Santiago Canizares in the area.
Canizares saved Vagner's penalty but it fell kindly to the striker to slot home.
For most of the game it was in-form Valencia who played the better football and looked more threatening.
Rodrigues Vicente and Francisco Rufete tore Celta apart down the flanks and John Carew's threat in the air caused countless problems - however they missed two crucial spot-kicks.
Juan Vealsco fouled Vicente in the area and the referee pointed at the spot in the 39th minute, but Pablo Cavallero brilliantly palmed Ruben Baraja's low shot out for a corner.
Then, in the 79th minute, Garcia Juanfran clipped Rufete as he raced into the area. This time, Baraja tried to place it in the opposite corner, but Cavellero got down to save the shot.
Referee Rodriguez Santiago showed 10 yellow cards in total as Celta tried to stop Valencia's flowing movement and the hosts responded in kind.
