Default Mantorras: LVP's Meal Ticket?

Interesting bit from www.maisfutebol.iol.pt:

Quote:

Luís Filipe Vieira é agora o homem forte do futebol do Benfica.

Esta revelação surge depois de uma semana em que Luís Filipe Vieira se envolveu em troca de acusações com o presidente do Sporting, Dias da Cunha, e o presidente do F.C. Porto, Pinto da Costa.
Like it says - who knows if he got 60% of the sale to Benfica, but it's interesting nonetheless, no?

By the way, now that the "LVP" monniker has caught on, is it any coincidence that Benfica's run of bad luck since "JVP" left has done a 180 since "LVP" came on board? Who'd have known that turning the "J" to an "L" was all it took? Hee-hee...

Oops - Sorry DJ! Bad habit from my days at xtratime where I was the only non-Portuguese Benfica fan in the Benfica forum. I figured that if I could read it, everybody could.

It basically says that when Luis Felipe Vieira was the president of Alverca, an agreement existed with Mantorras' agent which stated that he was personally entitled to 60% of the transfer fee once/when Mantorras was sold to another club. This would be somewhat sticky ethically in the eyes of some if he made the 60% profit for selling him to a club where many feel (rightfully so, but difficult to prove) that he already had a verbal offer to take over as president the following season. In case you're unfamiliar with that story, LVP became the president of Benfica last May after being the president of Benfica. Other clubs cried "foul!" at the prospect of selling the young stud to Benfica to a club where he was going to be president at next year.

It goes on to say that it's unknown whether or not that language was re-written/ammended since the first agreement; but TVI (the media outlet) has a copy of the original agreement.

This only makes me appreciate LVP's business sense even more. He advanced his career and his own personal worth in one fell swoop. Good for him...and great for Benfica!

... and here I thought it was the fact that I haven't changed my socks since JVP left!

You know, I've grown attached to these old and dirty socks. In fact, it seems as if they've grown on me too... literally! They're not coming off...

I'm getting this horrific image of Pila's leg hairs growing and entangling themselves with the fibers of the socks; becoming a symbiotic entity unto their own.

Eyewww!!!

Still, just in case old chum...keep 'em on. Uma campeonato esta uma campeonato, nao?!

It's not so bad, Razor. It seems after a few months, some strange vegetation cultivates itself in the mildew. I've made a killing marketing these mushrooms at the flea market. It seems they make a hell of hallucinogens!

$$Katching! $$katching!

Wait a minute...so if he owns 60% of the pass, and Alverca the other 40%...where is Benfica gonna get theirs?

Or does Benfica own the remaining 40%?

I believe it means that he gets/got 60% of whatever was coming to Alverca when Mantorras was sold to Benfica (about $2.5 million USD). Alverca's entitled to 50% of the pass once Benfica sells him to another club (i.e. - Barca) as part of the deal.

You mean if we sell 'em we only make 50%? So, if Barca buys him for $40 mil we only get $30 mil?

I'm still Razor.

I thought Benfica spent 1 million contos (about $5 million) for Mantorras. But instead they spent 600 mil contos (about $3 million) of which LFV pocketed 200 mil contos (about 1 million). So he pocketed 50% of whatever profit Alverca stood to make.

Btw, can we assume he still gets the same cut once benfica sells?

That's nice chunk of change. You figure they sell him for 40 million. Alverca gets 20 million of which LFV gets 10 million. On the Benfica side probably the same cut. So he gets at least 10 million from the deal, with the possibility of 20 million.

That's it...I'm giving up my day job and I'm going to find the next Mantorras!

That figures...you could never do math.

Let me break it down for ya!

If the profit margin on the Mantorras' deal is $40 million...LFV stands to make half of that if he has a similar deal in place with both Benfica and Alverca. 20 MILLION!

You have to figure he does...he wouldn't do away with that lovely clause!
