Who is Tobias Linderoth?
Linderoth was not born in Sweden, but in Marseille, France, where his father Anders Linderoth was a footballer for Olympique Marseille. Under his father's tutelage, he developed his football skills at an early age and began his career at the youth team of Swedish side Mjallby, which he joined at the age of seven. At 14, he moved to IFK Hassleholm, and then to the youth team of Feyenoord. He began his professional adult career at Norwegian club Stabaek IF - where his father was coach. After three years there, coaches around Europe started noticing his potential, and in 2002 Everton stepped in to sign him for 4 million Euros. Linderoth's time at Goodison Park was disappointing, though, as he was plagued with injuries and fell out of favor after coach Walter Smith was fired. He played in just 40 games over three years, and in 2004 he transferred to FC Copengahen. At Copenhagen, he quickly forgot his troubles at Everton. He was made captain, and led his team to back-to-back Danish Superliga titles in 2006 and 2007. His team also won the Royal League, the Scandinavian club tournament, in 2005 and 2006 (in 2007 they finished second). Linderoth has also impressed on the Swedish national team, where he is an assistant captain. He played in the 2002 World Cup, Euro 2004, and the 2006 World Cup, earning 69 caps (not including a previous 21 caps with Sweden's U-21s). He has a reputation as a strong, hard-working center midfielder who primarily concentrates on defense. While not a prolific goal-scorer (he only scored 4 goals in 82 matches for Copenhagen), his extensive experience (remember, he has been playing professionally since the age of seven) and strong work ethic may make him a valuable addition to Galatasaray.
