Real Madrid coach Capello blasts 'cheater' Torres
October 02, 2006

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has branded Atletico Madrid captain Fernando Torres a 'cheat' after last night's derby finished 1-1.

Capello believed Torres continually went down too easily under challenge in a game which saw Real defender Sergio Ramos dismissed.

Capello accused him of theatrics in order to get Ramos sent off when he went to ground after being hit in the face by the defender as the two competed for the ball.

"Torres dived and tried to fool the referee," said the Italian. "It was cheating and I don't like cheats."

But the Spain striker denied he had exaggerated the incident which earned Ramos a second yellow card.

"Capello should talk less and look at the video instead," he told Punto Radio. "There was an elbow and when he sees the incident I'm sure he will recognise that that the sending off was right."

"He was probably just saying that to try and divert attention from his own team's poor play."

Atletico Madrid's Pernia: Capello will regret Torres attack
October 02, 2006

Mariano Pernia says Atletico Madrid's players were disappointed to come away from Real Madrid last night with a 1-1 draw.

The Spain international winger said: "The results sometimes are not right, but this is football. Even if you play well and better than your opponent for 80 minutes, you won't be guaranteed victory. We are not happy with the result. We went for three points and although we took a point, we're disappointed not to have won."

Pernia also commented on Real coach Fabio Capello's 'cheat' blast against his captain, Fernando Torres: "On the field it seemed to me that Sergio Ramos threw the elbow. Later I saw on tele that it was a struggle. The blow was there and when one feels it you drop.

"The declarations of Capello are in the heat of the moment and that today he is sorry for what he said. Fernando is a professional player who at no moment wants to gain an advantage by breaking the rules."

Capello apologises to Atletico Madrid's Torres
October 03, 2006

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has taken back his 'cheater' rap for Atletico Madrid captain Fernando Torres.

Capello believes Torres played up during a clash with Sergio Ramos, which saw the Real defender sent-off in Sunday's derby.

He said this morning: "I like to talk about sport, not to offend people, if I offended him, I ask him to excuse me.

"(But) one can see clearly Sergio Ramos did not intend to elbow him. I fought all the time in Italy against diving. Just like how players throw themselves to the ground clutching their face even if they haven't been touched. I hate to see people get an advantage like that."
