After Klinsman and Ballack both openly said that this was an important match, and that Germany needed a victory over a respectable European side it's back to the drawing board for the Germans
This German team was outclassed in every single way. Only when the Mattress was inserted did Lippi try to even the score a little, because up to that point the angle that the German players were taking (even Ballack) was to break every ankle of the Italians that they could. Especially that fouling Huth (Hack) and Frings (Whack) and then Mertsecker (Smack). Huth kicks Toni after a whistle is blown. Smack kicks DP's ankle when the ball is about 20 feet away from him...and Whack was finally warned with a yellow, should have been a
after three brutal fouls.
Even their superstar Ballack was reduced to slide tacking De Rossi and Pirlo completely marked him out of the game...a man half his size
Germany only scored when Mattress was inserted, and how ironic that our donkey gave their donkey the opportunity after they were both doing their best mating impression by hugging each other. I was afraid a mule would come out the other end.
All in all, Lippi has proven himself to me. He's a masterful tactician. OH
