Hannover
Hannover's Mayor Herbert Schmalstieg and World Cup Coordinator Klaus Timaeus presented the City's concept for the 2006 FIFA World Cup ™ FAN FEST in Hannover today (5 December). “The FAN FEST will be a magnet for football fans from home and abroad – and all of them will take home good memories of Hannover and spread the word about our hospitality,” Said Schmalstieg.
From 9 th June till 9 th July Hannover will lay on free live broadcasts of all the World Cup action on the big screen and a colourful supporting programme every match day at Waterlooplatz near the city's World Cup Stadium for up to 20,000 fans. Admission to the FAN FEST will be free.
The designs for the stage and 60-m 2 screen show an impressive construction up to 14 metres wide and high. Along the western side to Lavesallee will be stands up to 2.5 metres deep and a wall of various heights up to seven metres. “The different heights and openings will make people curious and open up views of the grounds,” explained Timaeus. All the external surfaces will be decorated with banners carrying football motifs. “Hannover is putting on a great show for its World Cup visitors!”
“Along with appearance, safety is one of our most important considerations at the FAN FEST,” declared Mayor Schmalstieg, “So we decided to have just one entrance, a broad but controllable gateway. Checks and searches will be possible at all times. We'll be working very closely with the police.”
“As well as defining the space, the surroundings of the FAN FEST have another important function – along 70 metres of the wall to Lavesallee will be hospitality boxes that we'll be marketing in the weeks to come - this will go a long way towards recouping our costs,” explained Timaeus. Catering concessions and a 300-m 2 VIP marquee in the north-eastern corner of the grounds would also help cover the costs. “We've already agreed services for about 500,000 € with four partners from the World Cup sponsors pool, including supply and parts of the stage infrastructure. The total budget for the FAN FEST is running at about 1.6 million €.”
The City of Hannover will commission two local companies, Hannover Concerts and Planungsgruppe holodeck, to stage the FAN FEST. “The concept from these companies was clearly the best in a competition between six agencies, of which three made a presentation to a jury of politicians, local government administrators, the local FIFA organising committee in Hannover and Hannover Marketing Association,” explained Timaeus about the imminent granting of the contracts. Detailed planning with all concerned will start before the end of the year.

Re: WC Fan Fests
For the mexico vs portugal match I decided to base at cologne and go to gelserkirchen just in the day of the match but I will probably stay late there that day to celebrate no matter what the final score is Im sure the mix of portugues and mexican people will be fun.
Gelserkirchen
Watch the goals fly in at the heart of football in Gelsenkirchen. Experience the stadium atmosphere - despite being without a ticket. And celebrate with fans from across the globe in a sea of flags and banners. During the World Cup Gelsenkirchen will be breathing new life into the Glückauf-Kampfbahn, the ground where various youth teams and the Schalke reserves currently train and fight for league points. From June 8 onwards, fans from all over the world will converge on the Glückauf-Kampfbahn. Because this is where the host city of Gelsenkirchen will be staging the FIFA 2006 World CupTM Fan Fest.
New life …
Every World Cup game will be shown live on a sixty square metre videowall. Just like at a rock concert, fans will be able to party together in the stadium interior, on the 'holy turf' so to speak. When the football stops, the action will continue on stage, with a programme of entertainment on offer to international guests even on non-matchdays. The organisers will definitely match the players on the pitch in terms of ambition. As well as a day and evening programme of entertainment, the infrastructure offers everything a fan fest could need. Alongside the stadium there are two additional sports pitches where you can enjoy a half-time refreshment. WC and medical services will also be provided.
... at this traditional stadium
For many Gelsenkircheners the Glückauf-Kampfbahn is more than just a football ground. It is where the Royal Blues ran rings round the opposition in the 1930s and 1940s with their unique brand of passing football. Schalke brought the German championship trophy back to Gelsenkirchen six times during this period. The atmosphere inside the stadium was the stuff of legends, and often the crowd would push right up to the touchline. At the legendary match against Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1931, some 70,000 people crammed around the pitch, and some even climbed up nearby trees to get a better view.
How to get there
As many as 22,000 fans will be able to support their teams at the Glückauf-Kampfbahn during the World Cup. To ensure the Fan Fest will also be a hit with the local residents, all visitors are kindly requested to travel to the ground using public transport. Because when this venerable cult stadium was built in the 1920s, car parks were not considered standard features. The Glückauf-Kampfbahn is, however, in the thick of things, being situated at the heart of the district of Schalke. If you do prefer to come by car, you can head for one of the Park & Ride car parks selected for the World Cup and then use the shuttle bus service or take the tram (Line 302, get off at Ernst-Kuzorra-Platz).

Re: WC Fan Fests
Not really specific information about cologne. Probably they will post where are going to be the events. I will spend in cologne 4 days and Im sure they will have plenty of activities.
Cologne
A soccer World Cup creates waves throughout the host country and cities long before the first ball is kicked.
Presentations, events and animated discussions are all firm indications that something wonderful - even unique - is in the air.
A countdown event, which is to take place in every World Cup venue, shows how fast time flies and that the World Cup - an event for which so many people have been preparing for years - is getting closer by the day.
Both Cologne locals and visitors from all over the world not only have an exhilarating football tournament to look forward to, but also a corresponding programme of supporting events. Thanks to a wide range of exhibitions, musical stage shows, markets, cultural events, etc., football fans will have plenty to occupy them outside the ninety minutes.
In this way, from 9 June to 9 July 2006, in all types of different surroundings, Cologne will pull out all the stops to ensure that their visitors' stay in this World Cup host city will be an experience to be remembered.
