I know who will win the World Cup!!!!
Now we have the ultimative predictions of all matches at the WC 2006.
I took the results the teams that will play each other achieved on their last match.
If the teams haven't played each other in the last 20 years, I considered it a 0:0. There weren't so many cases.
Starting from the second phase, where no draws are allowed, I took the second last match if the last one was a draw.
Only in one single case I had no data, so I took the FIFA rankings.
This means these predictions are completely realistic, since these are the results that happened the last time!
Try to make your predictions right now, and I imagine you won't be able to predict the final.
Be prepared ... we have some nice surprises.
Read the results slowly forwards, and get phase after phase until you get to the champions!

very interesting method,good work man.
but there are a few flaws that stand in the way of reality of the results:
1.brazil bottom of their group with no wins? sorry i dont c that
2.some of the results are old and some national teams changed dramtically.eg:Ukraine
3.importance of the last match played.maybe one team wasnt playing to its full potential...
in the end, football is played on grass and not on paper.dont know what might surprise you.but your predictions in some cases could give us a view on what to expect

that's right ... if I'd take an average of the three last matches or something like this I would probably have come to a completely different result. But it's anyway interesting to see that it's not that far from the reality. It's sort of luck which team played the last match at home etc, but during the WC there are also lots of luck involved.
I found it interesting to see that the semis without Brazil, Germany, Italy and Argentina can still be "honorable" semis.

Re: I know who will win the World Cup!!!!
That's too simplistic, man! For example, Germany gets a point each from Costa Rica & Ecuador & to top it all, Brazil finishes last in the group!!!. I don't see that happening. What you could have done is assuming that there happens no major upset & whenever a big team plays a rank outsider, assume that the big team wins irrespective of whether they played each other in the last 20 years. For the top 10-15 teams take the result of their previous meeting. I am sure you'll get a different result.
P.S: England-Germany 5-1 in Munich was a catastrophe, I don't see that happening again in this century.

Re: I know who will win the World Cup!!!!
i hope not Brazil loses all games and comes in last in groups...right completely realistic
but if it does work out like this look at the England group...and remember what i said about PAraguay all along.

because they aren't unrealistic ... the results did occur, and they were the most recent ones!

Re: I know who will win the World Cup!!!!
Great Work. Thanks for taking the time, I read through it all and even though some predictions might be a bit off since they took place too long ago some of them are really or have a good chance of being pretty valid.
