What a magnificent night it was...
I don't know how to begin with this review from fans aspect of the game this night.
Well, I'll start with the "warm-ups"
Gang came for me at 16.00 hours, all dressed in Croatia NT shirts, seated in a car and drowed towards stadium. Streets full of fans, singing on every corner, full buses arrevied from all over Croatia.. We parked 200m from stadium, near our local, small pub. Entered in it and ordered beers (what else could we order though
). As soon as we entered, they started (in the pub) putting Thompson songs - Lijepa li si, Oj Ivane (and many others - nationalistic songs...). In the blink of an eye, pub got crowded, people standing and drinking,singing... It's good to mention that among cro fans, there were some of the swedish aswell, drinking together with us!!!
After 4 beers, first we visited toilet
and then (18.30) went to the stadium. Entered at 19.00 hours (east stand), stadium was already filled with around 20 000 fans. Atmosphere great!
20.15 Kick off!
Game started, our players trying to gain advantedge on the field, fans getting loud... On south, around 1 500 swedish fans gathered and around 500 were on west and east stand, mixed with us... I must say that I was a bit disappointment with loudnes of the fans in the first half, we were totaly unorginased - one singing one song, others another, third being quiet (*uckin indians). With this mess along the stadium, swedish fans got an oportunity to be heard, and they were from time to time - Sverige, Sverige..
First half ended 0:0, we got ourselves some beer to refresh our voices and waited the second half.
Just seconds before players returned to the filed, Lijepa li si was released - what an impact that song had... 35 000 fans started singing it,and when 2nd half begun, total delirium on stadium... Finaly,all get crazy, flags and scarves put in the air, everyone tearing apart their vocies - TOTAL CHAOS, CROATIAN HELL!!!
Players also got the wings and started attacking the sweds - final outcome of that was penalty kick! Srna took the ball, silent on stadium, he shoot, Issakson on one, the ball on other side and - GOAAAAAAAAAAAAL!
Delirium on the stadium, fans overwhelmed by happiness, CROATIA LEADS 1:0.
Now, after that goal, our guys starting to defend themselves,letting Sweden to control the ball. That's when the nerves started - 'cause we all still remembered Bulgaria and 2:0 lead, the same attitude was seeing again.. That's why some of the fans started to whistle ('cause we were all afraid that Bulgaria will happen again).
But when the referee whistled the end, hands were put in the air and singing started - HRVATSKA, HRVATSKA...
Sweden players went to the lockeroom immideately and ours started celebrating with us, the fans. Fireworks started and again all stadium started to sing LIJEPA LI SI. It lasted for like 15 minutes and then small rain begun so people started to get out to the streets, occupying pubs near maksimir.
We got back to our pub for one more beer and guess who we ran into it again - the same swedish fans, this time with croatian scarves around the neck
And people saying we are hooligans...
