Default The Serie A Report

I'll keep trying to compile reports like this one for each respective week as time permits me to watch games, highlights etc.

The number next to the assists indicates on which goal it was assisted on. 6th would thus mean the 6th goal of the game, etc...

25 September 2005

INTER 1-0 FIORENTINA
Martins 7 (Figo)

CAGLIARI 0-0 ROMA
nada

EMPOLI 1-0 LECCE
Pozzi 64 (Busce)

LAZIO.........4-2.....PALERMO
Rocchi 58, 86....... Caracciolo 36
Pandev 59............Gonzalez 49
Manfredini 65.....

Assists : Santoni 1st, Makinwa2nd, none 3rd, Rocchi 4th, Oddo 5th (freekick), Dabo 6th

For Palermo's opener Santoni hits a thundering goalkick down the field and Caracciolo shows amazing speed to fly by two defenders, lobbing the ball up and over and advancing Peruzzi.

Lazio didn't stop advancing and should have been evened up the score, but Gonzalez doubles the score due to intense work by Caracciolo and Makinwa.

Santoni then gifts Lazio the goal they desperately needed, getting them back into the game as he charges off his line and almost clips his own defender, allowing Rocchi to slot the ball into an empty net.

A minute later Palermo screws up again as Pandev latches on to Rocchi's pass and slots the bottom corner.

Manfredini (appears to have actually mishit the ball) meet Oddo's (please sell him to Milan, they desperately need a repalcement for Cafu SOON!) free kick with a mid air volley or heal, giving Lazio the lead.

Palermo missed chances to draw level before they were finished off with a right hook and undercut combo! Rocchi starts the play rounding a defender and dishing off to Inzaghi. Inzaghi then cuts it back to Dabo runs into
the box and centres for Rocchi to knock in.

I honestly don't think that Lazio would have made the comeback if Guardalben was fit, but they deserve the 3pts.

An incredible match. La Liga supporters should watch this one. It's been typical for mid tiered teams to put up stunning performances like this in Serie A for the past few seasons

Pandev is playing well!

LIVORNO..........2-0.......ASCOLI
Palladino 51
Lucarelli 78 (PK)

Palladino intercepted a pass and blazed by the last defender before depositing a rather easy goal. Lucarelli got the penalty.

SAMPDORIA.....1-2......CHIEVO
Flachi 50...................Franceschini 36
...............................Obinna 61
Assists : Amauri 1st, Zauli 2nd, ? 3rd

Obinha initiates the play that leads to the first goal with a nice lateral move on the defender, to Luciano who first times it to Amauri who again one timed it to Fran who header the corner. Nice nice play!

Flachi then received a cross from Zauli and physically wards off the defender before putting it past Fontana.

Then Obinha stuns a defender with an amazing shift of weight from one foot to the other...he does this all while taking the ball down with his right and turning all in one movement while slipping theball across to his left, he takes a few strides then laterally shifts to run past two defenders before putting a thunderous ball with his right...following up with his best Martin's impersonation

Unbelievable debut...almost as good as Cassano's.

Another thriller:

SIENA................4-2.............MESSINA
Locatelli 10, 46......................Zoro 12
Chiesa 28, 40........................Di Napoli 66

Assists : Bogdani-3rd, Locatelli-5th, Yanagisawa 6th

Locatelli deaks the keeper for the first
Zoro equalizes with a blast
Chiesa restores the lead with an easy tap, then collects his second at the end of the half poshing the bal under Storari.
Locatelli gets his 2nd, seconds after the start of the 2nd half
Di Napoli pulls one back as he shoves off Portanova's feeble challenge, but it was not nearly enough.

TREVISO 0-2 MILAN
Shevchenko 44 (Pen)
Gilardino 73
Assists : Gila 1st (won the PK), Gattuso 2nd

Gilardino was hauled down by Zancope who then embelished an injury but the ref had nothing to do with it. Sheva converts. Gilardino who is a superb finished actually missed several chances, however finally heads in Milan's 2nd goal after Gattuso steers a precision Pirlo cross into Gila's direction. Pirlo is magic from in deep...I've been saying this for 2 years now. Coaches in Serie A still don't know how to handle a playmaker that does most of his damage from 60 feet out + they have Kaka' up front to deal with. The Pirlo Kaka 1-2 punch is still unsolvable. Milan's aging defense will be their only weakness. Cafu and Maldini can't keep up the pace through a gruelling season, and Kaladze and Stam are shit! They need Grosso or Oddo very very soon!

24 September 2005

REGGINA 2-0 UDINESE
Cozza 43
Cavalli 76
Assists : Vigiani 1st, Modesto 2nd

Udinese suffer from freezing Iaquinta out of the lineup. Early reports suggest they are tired of getting routed because of it, and he'll be back for the next game.

PARMA................1-2..................JUVENTUS
Delvecchio 13..............................Camoranesi 44
................................................Vieira 82

Assists : Corradi 1st, Vieira 2nd, Ibrahimovic (surprise) 3rd

Two big men with big hearts (tm) combine to give Parma a lead. Corradi heads to Delvecchio (who truly is getting old now) who volleys the goal!

Camoranesi (one of the engines for Juve, Zambrotta and Canavaro being the others) strikes an amazing ball from circa 30 yards out, putting it on a wire into the top corner...power...respect...

Ibrahimovic does the right thing and after entering the box he crosses the ball between 2 defenders to Vieira who powerfully heads the ball in.

Capello has transformed Viera, allowing him to display his range of skills which Wenger tried shamefully to inhibit by insisting that he play deep and break legs instead of going forward more often. He should have left the Arse years ago!

i would like to coment on something out of topic though... juventus... good strat... but i dont think they will keep it up... although i am not saying they will become a shit teamm all of the sudden im saying they are just going to colapse a litle and the weeker teams (when i mean weeker i mean the teams with not as many points) will catch up and it will come down to the final games or something... thats what i think... now something on topic...

inter should have won by more... look at their team! inter though are doing well also... i think juve and inter... it will be a draw although i want inter to win

Default Re: The Serie A Report

2 October 2005

JUVENTUS..... 2-0.... INTER
Trezeguet 22
Nedved 34

assists: Ibra 1st

Juve scores both from set pieces. 1st, Cesar mishandles Ibra's kick, which was deflected and Trez heads into the net. Nedved takes a precision kick for the 2nd. The Matress "breaks" Ibra's leg with a brutal tackle in the first. DP comes on but isn't influential. Then if Ibra's injury wasn't enough, Trez and Thuram also leave with "breakdowns" of their own.

Mancini was inept. I think Inter missed Veron quite a bit.

ASCOLI............. 3-1....... PARMA
Bjelanovic 28, 78...... ... Pisanu 20
Foggia 33

Assist : Morfeo - 1st, Foggia - 2nd, ?3rd, Tosto - 4th

Morfeo fights off two tackles as he races towards goal and dishes off to Pisanu who netted his pass. Bjelanovic proves that white men can jump and rises over two defenders to head Ascoli even.

Foggia then creates and finishes his own goal as Grella slips up in front of him. Bjela gets his second from another header to give Ascoli it's first win this season.

FIORENTINA....... 3-2.... LIVORNO
Toni 27..... ... Galante 85
Jorgensen 35..... .... Morrone 88
Pazzini 60

Assists : 1st - Ujfalusi, 2nd - Pazzini, 3rd - Jorgensen, 4th none, 5th - Coco

Lucarelli's sending off was HARSH, premeditated bullshit by the ref. He was booked for "elbowing" Pasqual, but when he appealed the booking he was shown a red.

Ujfalusi sent a cross in and the Livorno defenders tried to play the offside, but big man Toni leapt above one of them to head in his 6th of the season...amazing.

Jorgensen adds a wickid second; Donadel sends in a hail mary of a pass and Pazzini brings it down and relays it into the path of Jorgensen who picked the bottom corner.

Jorgensen again initiates a play by winning a ball off of a defnder and lays off to Pazzini, who steps lateral of Galante and curls a ball into the corner past Amelia.

Livorno mount a late comeback and Grandoni is denied by...the POST...but Galante volleys it in. Morrone gets a late one but time runs up. Fiorentina really let up and almost got punished for it!

LECCE....... 3-0....... CAGLIARI
Konan 8........
Pinardi 14 (Pen)
Ledesma 67

Assist : 1st - Cassetti, 2nd - Konan (won the pk), 3rd - Pinardi

Lecce has only scored two goals before this game, but they managed an absolutely superb goal involved some 9-10 touches on the ball before Konan deposited the goal from a great backheel flick from Cassetti.

Pinardi buries a pk.

Ledesma finishes off the rout by smashing in a ball created initially by Abruzzese's backheel to Valdes to Pinardi who lays it off for him.

Zeman is reported to be coming back to Lecce soon.

MESSINA....... 1-4....... SAMPDORIA
D'Agostino 77....... Flachi 45
............... Borriello 79
............... .... Bonazzoli 62, 90

didn't see it.

MILAN......... 2-1....... REGGINA
Maldini 5, 20 ......... Cavalli 93

Assists : 1st- Seedorf, 2nd - Rui Costa (corner), 3rd - Vigiani

Maldini, truly an immortal...

Maldini nutmeggs Lanzaro and cracks a low shot into the net after initiating the play to Seedorf who plays a give-n-go with Serginho before giving it back to Maldini.

The agless wonder then get's his second goal from a header off of a Rui Costa corner.

Vieri missed a whole bunch of chances before Reggina pull one back late in the game, extra time by Cavalli.

PALERMO....... 2-2 ...... EMPOLI
Caracciolo 7....... ... Tavano 9, 42
Makinwa 55

didn't see it

ROMA....... 2-3 ...... SIENA
Taddei 46 ........ ... Negro 17
Panucci 86 ........ ..... Chiesa 54
..... ....... Colonnese 91

Assists : 1st - ?, 2nd - ?, 3rd - Vergassola, 4th - Bogdani

Negro opens the scoring off. Taddei ties with a sweat right foot volley.
Vergassola sets up Chiesa who curls one inside the post. Vergassola
gots a yellow for obstructing Totti. Totti takes a stinger of a kick that stuns Mirante and Panucci picks up the rebound, then Totti again comes close to scoring but is stopped by an amazing world class save.

Colonnese taps in the winner.

1 October 2005

CHIEVO 0-0 TREVISO

didn't see it

UDINESE........... 3-0........ LAZIO
Iaquinta 51 (Pen)
Di Natale 79
Candela 90

Assists : 1st - none , 2nd - Iaquinta, 3rd - ?

Iaquinta returns and Udinese is back to their winning ways. He converts the penalty at the beginning of the second half, and assisted on the second as he headed down a cross to Di Natale. Candela finished it off when he ripped through the midfield and lobbed Peruzzi from the top of the box.

If Udinese officials did not pull the stunt they did to force Iaquinta to sign, the might have been nearer the top of Serie A and not been beaten as badly as they were by Barca, but I suppose they don't care since they met their objective and got Iaquinta signed for longer, which means more money in a likely transfer come this Jan.

Default Re: The Serie A Report

November 20 2006

FIORENTINA.....3-1..........MILAN
Toni 10, 87.....................Gilardino 25
Jorgensen 46

Toni gets onto Pasquals Free-Kick and heads the opening goal into the opposite corner. Nasty defender. Gilardino equalizes on a cross from Serginho, redirecting the ball into the opposite corner with another header.
Pasqual again making things tough for Milan, sends a cross into the box, which a sliding Nesta misses and actually indavertantly tipped to Jorgensen, who slotted it home. Toni penetrates again, and uses his lethal head to score his league leading 15th goal of the season. Vieri...say goodbye to the national team, welcome Toni

INTER 2-0 PARMA
Figo (Veron) 68
Cambiasso 81

Veron does a give-n-go with Martins, then sends to Figo who put it into the opposite corner socring his first for Inter. Cambiason scores the second by lobbing it into the net, after receiving a poor clearance attempt from Simplicio.

ROMA...................1-4..............JUVENTUS
Totti 64 (Pen)...........................Nedved (Camo) 46
..............................................Ibrahimovic (Emerson) 56
..............................................Trezeguet (Z) 58, (Thurham) 61

Zambrotta initiates and dishes to Camo who crosses in to Nedved who outjumped his defender to head in the first goal. Prior to this point it was all Roma in attack, but true to what I said last year Montella isn't the goal poacher we all figured without Cassano and Totti setting him up as they did. Totti has been playing a slightly different role since Cassano hasn't been around. He's interplay with Cassano was superb, Roma need to bring him back ASAP! I'm getting sick of all their shit.

Ibrahimovic then scores a brilliant goal. Juve was pressed deep in their end till Emerson tried a long ball to Ibra who took it with the outside of his foot and bounced it 20 feet in front of him, raced it down and toe punted it top corner. Zambrotta is again responsible for the 3rd goal, stipping the ball in the midfield and sent a precision cross straight to Trez who headed it in. Trez gets his second after pouncing on a mis hit by Thuram. Thurham later makes a feeble tackle, and Paparesta gave Roma some charity by awarding a ghost penalty + red card combo, probably making up for the missed ones earlier on.

CHIEVO..........................1-1...................ASCOLI
Pellissier (Zanchetta) 14...........................D'Anna 43 (og)

Pellisier pummeled a ball home, straight through a hole in the wall on a freekick that was set up for him by Zanchetta. Poor D'Anna scores an own goal as he tries to stop a cross.

LECCE..........3-0...........SIENA
Vucinic (Cassetti) 16
Konan (Valdes) 53
Cozzolino 90

Vucinic is off to a slow pace this season but finally netted his first (way off pace from the 19 he scored last season). Konan got the second. Cozzolino danced into the box and slipped past the keeper finishing off the scoring on a very nice dribble.

LIVORNO.............2-0..........EMPOLI
Morrone (Coco B-Ware) 31
Lucarelli (Morrone) 88

Morrone takes a Coco cross and puts it home. Lucarelli, who had high hopes for making the National Team by topping the scoring charts last year with Gilardino, tricks Berti with a precision goal on a turn.

REGGINA............3-1.............CAGLIARI
Amoruso 2...........................Abeijon 67
Cozza 38 (Pen)
Paredes 80

didn't see it or any replays.

SAMPDORIA........2-0...........LAZIO
Diana 72
Flachi 73

Diana, who scored 2 goals for Italy vs Ivory Coast (one counted) is on excellent form and a capable replacement for Camoranesi, slammed a volley in off the post (almost identical to his second goal in the last friendly). Flachi scored the 2nd.

TREVISO.............2-2...........PALERMO
Reginaldo 2, 6......................Ferri 28
.........................................Brienza 69

didn't see it or replays.

19 November 2005

UDINESE 1-0 MESSINA
Felipe 86

didn't see it or replays.

The National team has a pretty good abundance of Backs at the moment:

Zambrotta, Pasqual, Grosso, Oddo and Chiellini, but we need to begin developing some central defenders!!

LIVORNO 0-0 CHIEVO

Didn't see it, and not losing sleep over it!!

MILAN.............. 2-1............... LECCE
Pirlo 3 (FK)............................. Konan 67
Inzaghi(Pirlo) 94

Pirlo was definite man of the match here proving that the "deep" brains of Milan's creativity is still unsolvable by most Serie A tacticians. Pirlo opens up the scoring with a wicked free-kick, twisting en route to it's settling place into the bottom far corner after going over the wall. Milan was in complete control of this match and should have been up several goals however the normally superb finisher Gilardino missed two sitters, and the expression on his face showed this on the second which he tipped over the bar having caught the Sicignano way off his line.

Why do I dislike Stam so much? Well if you saw his ridiculous clearing attempt which ended up a goal by Konan (or assist on the goal to Konan) then you will undersand why. He's the shits and even Marco Van Basten knows it who has desperately been trying to find a suitable replacement for this bald pylon.

Nesta later shows some skill of his own with a nice scissor kick like attempt on net which Sicignano saved

Inzaghi then scores a typical Inzaghi'ish goal. Elluding the whole backline and throwing himself at the ball which was brilliantly headed into his path by Pirlo.

Inzaghi's opportunistic goals should possibly have him on Lippi's consideration list for the World Cup because he does seem to have a knack for slipping behind the defense and scoring goals of this nature on a regular basis.

28 November 2006

JUVENTUS.................... 3-1................... TREVISO
Mutu (Ibra) 37........................................ Parravicini (Galleoto) 25
Trezeguet 43
Del Piero (Ibra) 82

Treviso were, as many expected, outmatched in this game....HOWEVER they put up a very impressive effort for the first 20 minutes scoring a very deserved first goal. A three man effort ending with Parravicini who slots into the corner starts with Reginaldo to Galeoto who delivered a perfect ball for Parravicini to put into the far bottom corner - excellent build up. Mutu brings Juve even on a ball from Ibrahimovic who received a cross from Camoranesi. Ibra slamms the ball low and to the opposite corner, where Mutu extends himself to redirect it in. Trezeguet brings Juve ahead with a nice turn and tap in after a bit of confusion in the Treviso box. Super-sub Alex Del Piero came on from Trezeguet and didn't disappoint with a final strike at the 82nd minute on a nice set up by Ibrahimovic. Why Zlatan hasn't been short listed for POY is beyond me, but I suspect that Fifa wanted to put a charity position for an African player, which will guarantee that the award goes to either Ronaldinho or Lampard as Eto'o certainly has no chance to displace Ronaldinho for the honors.

DP almost scored another from a wicked free-kick (showing shadows of his former self on the spot), but it hit the inside of the post.

ROMA.................... 1-1 ...... FIORENTINA
Tommasi (Cassano) 2.............. Toni 66 (PK)

Cassano made his start for the first time in weeks. I hope this continues!! Tommasi was also back from injury and netted his first goal of the campaign, which Cassano helped to create. Totti initiates the play to Cassano who centered a perfect ball to Tommasi only needing to tap it in. Interesting enough Roma president Sensini was in the crowd and didn't look too enthused with Cassano's performance who continues to refuse Roma's contract demands. Cassano was also a threat throughout the game, also almost scoring with a header of his own midway through the game.

The big man Luca Toni equalizes from the spot after Mexes takes down Pazzini from behind and earns a red for it. Toni marginally misses a header attempt from a cross by Fiore. Fiorentina's Pasqual was also a threat through the whole game.

Luca Toni with 16 goals in 13 games!

MESSINA................ 1-2.......... INTER
Di Napoli 71............................ Recoba (Stankovic) 7
............................................ Cambiasso (Cordoba) 59

Inter responded to their recent criticism of having no Italians on the team by fielding several in this game. IMO they are going no where because they seriously lack an identity, other than being an INTERNATIONAL XI . I wonder which of their players actually hold European passports to get around the rule that was implemented last season? I also would like to see a return of the rule that no more than 4 or 5 foreigners (meaning those not home grown) should be fielded at one time.

Recoba shows excellent form in volleying a ball from a Stankovic cross. Adriano scored 3 goals in a more open game in the Champions league, but missed an absolute sitter and took a wild free kick to boot. There is no doubt that the room to move is much less in the Serie A, but a big man and a strong presence like Adriano should be able to overcome this. Perhaps he truly is not interested in playing for Inter any longer and that is affecting his play. I don't know what it is, but he was useless in this game.

Cambiasso roofs a ball with some fine control to bring it down and lift it over Storari.

Then some controversy ensued as Messina defender Zoro tried to walk off the pitch after being the recipient of abuse from a select few Inter fans.

Di Napoli ends the scoring by tapping in a goal that was gifted to him by Julio Cesar.

ASCOLI....................... 1-1...... PALERMO
Ferrante (Makinwa) 53................. Bonanni (Guana) 37

Did not see it.

CAGLIARI........... 2-0........... SAMPDORIA
Suazo 21,
Suazo (Budel) 52

Suazo ripped a hard shot which Antonioli could do nothing to save as it powered past him despite being in the right spot to save it! Suaze repeated the performance in the 2nd with another thunderous shot after turning a Samp defender inside out. Suazo pulled a timely performance giving Cagliari their first win of the season!

EMPOLI............................. 2-3................ LAZIO
Bonetto (Pozzini) 55 .................................. Tavano 28 (og)
Tavano 59 (PK)......................................... Tare (Oddo) 77
.............................................................. Liverani 80 (FK)

Lazio's first goal was a deflected freekick, however even though their third was deflected as well I'm accrediting Liverani with the goal because it was going in anyhow. Bonnetto brought Empoli even with a great dribble and thunderous left foot to the top corner - very nice strike! Tavano wins the penalty and converts after he pressed the Lazio defense deep with a nice run, the handball coming after he had crossed it in. It appeared to be unintentional, but interfered with the play so the right call was made IMO. Tavano almost brought Empoli ahead with another penetrating run but not putting enough on the end of a cross, which Peruzzi saved handidly.
Albanian, Tare brings Lazio even at the 77th minute with a nice header from a cross by Oddo. Liverani ends the game with a freekick.

PARMA............. 1-2........... UDINESE
Corradi 89.......................... Barreto (Iaquinta) 47, (Mauri) 48

Barreto needs a haircut so we can readily identify him with other Brazilians of his stature as I think he would suit the shaved look ala Ronaldo and RC. He scored both Udinese's goal, assisted by Iaquinta, to give them the win, with Corradi pulling back a goal in the 89th for Parma.

Barreto's first goal was a nice left foot on a cross by Iaquinta. His 2nd was initiated by Iaquinta who headed the ball to Mauri who tapped it into Barreto's path who pulled it down after controlling the ball with his chest and putting it top corner!

SIENA 0-0 REGGINA
Didn't see it, and I'm not losing sleep over that fact
