Default Pele opinion on Robinho

Legendary Brazilian forward Pele has hit out at the press attention surrounding Robinho's arrival at Real Madrid and warned that the young star will take time to adapt to his new environment.

Following his prolonged transfer from Santos, Robinho has been the centre of attention in the Spanish capital and earned even more headlines for his captivating appearance in Real's opening day win at Cadiz.

The 21-year-old made a cameo appearance when he entered the fray for the final 24 minutes of the first game of the season and was heralded as the saviour after a virtuoso performance that led to his side taking all three points.

But Pele believes that expectations around Robinho are too high and that patience will be needed while the forward settles in at El Bernabeu.

"Robinho needs a period of adaptation," Pele explained. "He needs to be introduced slowly.

"The attention of the European press could mean that he will bear the whole weight of expectations at Real Madrid on his shoulders, despite the team having a host of star players."

Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has also voiced his concerns regarding the excessive publicity generated by the gifted youngster as he seems set to carry the hopes of a club looking to end their two-year trophy drought.

I agree with him full heartedly, remember robinho has been playing football while the rest of his team mates were resting during the summer. Dont u think we are putting too much presure on a young kid like him. Some player's carriers have been wrecked because of high expectations, look at denilson. No one wants that to happen to robinho. He should be given time to settle in to his surroundings before putting such high expectations over him. He is seen to be real's saviour, but we wont win anything if the rest of the team doesn't play well.

Why is Pele showing some concerns, if the kid is doing fine why slow him down?

Let him start and shock the world, thats all im saying..

plus no one is putting too much pressure on him, and if we start losing no one will blame him...instead all the blames would go toward Ronaldo as always even if Raul or the rest of the team are the one doing badly..

Robinho could easily burn out and be worthless by midseason.

I say let's just watch and see how it unfolds. So far there is a lot of expectations and he hasn't shied away from him. Give him his chance to prove what has been said about him!!

With Ronaldinho being out of the first qualifying match for Brazil, maybe Robinho can step up...
Imagine the attack...

Kaka, Ronaldo, Robinho, and Adriano...

My God.

What people forget is that Robinho played in the Brasilian league, and by what i see from most people here is that "Brasilian league" is crap and thats not the truth.

Pele is a joker.

Pele come sout so concerned about such an obvious topic, so what if the press puts so much expectation on him it's not like they are going to effect him if he doesn't react positiively, look at Vieri the Italian media started bombing him and he simply said that he will ignore them and never do anymore press appearances, and hat was the end of "media pressure".

I love Pele he is a football god, but I also think he is FIFA's media pet and many other things he says is useless but maybe he does it because some people actually listen to his obvious opinions.

Robinho will do fine, sure he will have pressure but that will only depend if he wants the pressure or not, if he concentrates on the game he will do fine.

You said it better than I

Pele is the greatest player ever, but sometimes he makes stupid remarks.

My God.
It's happening, they're playing right now against Chile. 37 mins and it's 4x0 for Brazilian NT (Robinho scored the 2nd goal).

Ronaldo felt a small pain in his leg so Parreira preferred to save him.
