OWEN? I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HIM BACK
Daily Mirror 13 August 2005
LIVERPOOL boss Rafael Benitez has admitted for the first time that he wants to bring Michael Owen back to Anfield.
The Spaniard hinted last night that talks with Real Madrid are at an advanced stage and that Owen might once more be a Liverpool player as early as next week, probably on a loan deal.

The fly in the ointment is the interest of Manchester United. Madrid have indicated they are prepared to wait until the transfer deadline at the end of this month for United to step in with a cash deal to match their £10m valuation.

Mirror Sport understands that Liverpool have told Madrid they will pay the full asking price for Owen, but only after having him on loan for a year.

That will allow Benitez to spend the money he will collect from the impending sale of Milan Baros on a centre-half and a right-sided midfielder.

Madrid have so far resisted the idea of a loan deal because they want cash up front, but have indicated that if there is no other offer acceptable to Owen, then they will play ball. Benitez explained: "I am aware that Michael would like to come back. I don't know if we can do something because we are waiting for a good offer for Milan Baros.

"But he is a good player and I like him. I never had any problems with him. He is a nice boy, a good professional and a very good player."

Czech international Baros held talks with Aston Villa officials in a Liverpool hotel on Thursday night and could move to the Midlands club next week.

There is also interest from Lyon and Monaco, but Villa have got closest to the asking price of £7m with an offer of £6.5m, and they are close to agreeing personal terms.

Benitez stressed that the money from the Baros sale would go towards the purchase of a centre-half and a right-winger, and he expects to do both deals before the August 31 deadline. "We have 20 more days and we expect to get them in by then," he said. "I could say yes or no about Owen, but we must receive a good offer for Baros before we can proceed."

Manchester United's interest is the nagging worry for Benitez. Sir Alex Ferguson has maintained that he has no interest in Owen, but there has been some dialogue with Madrid and if a £10m offer is made, then Fergie will get Owen.

Real are ready to go back to Old Trafford to ask one final time if there is genuine interest. If the door is firmly shut, then Owen could arrive back on Merseyside after England's friendly against Denmark on Wednesday.

ANFIELD SHOW INTEREST IN MIGUEL AND OWEN
The Independent 13 August 2005
Liverpool are interested in signing the Portuguese international Miguel and are prepared to bring Michael Owen back to Anfield providing he, and Real Madrid, are willing to accept a substantial financial loss on the deal.
The European champions are Owen's destination of choice if he leaves the Bernabeu this summer, although the manager Rafael Benitez's reticence to sanction a return for the England international has stalled any response from Liverpool. Anfield officials, however, are keen to re-sign Owen without infringing on Benitez's transfer budget, which has prioritised a new centre-half and right midfielder, and will register an interest providing Madrid sanction a loan deal and the 26-year-old agrees to a dramatic wage cut.

Miguel is currently in dispute with Benfica over whether or not he signed a new contract with them. The 25-year-old, who can play anywhere across the right-hand side, is trying to negotiate a free transfer from the Portuguese club who are demanding a fee of around £6.8m.

The dispute cost Miguel a move to Juventus this summer and he is training with Fulham while his agent tries to negotiate a transfer to a Premiership club.

Good thing you guys are interested in taking Owen, Madrid is flooded with strikers and it would be a shame to see him on the bench all the season -or Baptista, or Robinho.....of course I don't want him to go, but I think is for Owen career's sake......

But forwards Milan Baros and Djibril Cisse may leave Anfield and pave the way for an Owen comeback.

Baros could move to Aston Villa and Cisse is understood to be the subject of interest from French club Lyon.

Lyon will be flush with cash with the £26m transfer from Michael Essien's expected switch to Chelsea and their manager Gerard Houllier signed Cisse for Liverpool when in charge of the Merseysiders.

We want him back because we want a prolific goalscorer who we can rely on throughout a season for goals

Houllier was rumoured to be eyeing Owen but the player appears to favour a move back to the Premiership.

Owen's future at Real is in doubt after the Spanish giants signed Robinho and Julio Baptista to complement an attacking force already boasting Raul and Ronaldo.

And, with Owen seemingly fifth choice, he has been linked with leaving the Bernabeu for more regular first-team football in World Cup year.

Liverpool received £8m and Antonio Nunez for Owen when they sold him last summer and Real are believed to want £10m for the hitman.

But, with Benitez after a right midfielder and centre-back, a loan deal has been mooted, despite Real not being too keen on the idea.

It may, however, be their main option if Manchester United do not make a firm bid for Owen.
well well well

Good news for the Pool, hope he stays in Madrid though as he is a Goalscorer and with him in the squad you are already at a advantage if he starts or comes on as sub over 50% of the time he will score..FACT.

Star Liverpool players have a tendency to join Newcastle and become Geordie Heroes also.

here are a few names.

Kevin Keegan
Terry Mcdermott
John Barnes
Peter Beardsley
Barry Venison

Michael Owen could become a geordie legend.

I think he has been signed to take over Shearer.

If shearer plays beyond this season i will be surprised.

Just a random thought :

Can you imagine Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham playing for england in 2006 ? Especially in current form ???
