The Stars Of The Backline
Now that Samuel is gone officially we are in for a fun season of Pavon and co.
Helguera
Woodgate
Mejia
Pavon
Carlos
Diogo
Salgado
Bravo
- Woody, can't truely trust that he'll be 100% at anytime just yet.
- Mejia, he is good, but I think that Santiago Bernabeu will get to him.
- Pavon, hmm... he's getting better I suppose, but you can't truely let him play center back all season.
- Carlos, he isn't preforming at his top level anymore, imo.
- Diogo, too attacking.
- Salgado, He's running strong, but he's also pretty old and we've got no real replacement.
- Bravo, well, it's Raul Bravo.
Hopefully Perez doesn't believe that Brasilian defenders are the way to go...
Let's see a defender signed Perez.

Re: The Stars Of The Backline
You never put your thoughts on Helguera? :suspiciou
Agreed though we are ***ked at the back but Lux has said that he isnt finished his summer signings yet so lets hope he buys 1 great CB and another 2 young good defenders preferably a CB and LB to cover R. Carlos.

Re: The Stars Of The Backline
Helguera? Well I think he's pretty good at the current moment, so I've got nothing to say about him.
Anyways, I know that there is a month left, but looking at it now, wow.

i disagree with u,
if woodgate recovers he will start & i think he will be as good as samuel was last year maybe even better.
helguera will partner him.
pavon is improving and is a good sub.
r.carlos is still 1 of the best left backs in the world & since luxa came he got back his form & expect him 2 perform even better next season.
arbeola, u 4got 2 mention him & real is planning 2 use him as a central back next season, he is ok though & i doubt he will be able 2 perform well in that position.
salgado is a great player & he is still 29, thats not old, he can perform well 4 atleast 3 years more. people 4get carboni, cafu & maldini who r above 35 years of age & still perform well.
diogo he will be a good sub 4 salgado.
r.bravo is a good sub as a centre back but this guy can never play well as a left back.
mejia, he will be a good enough sub as a centre back and a right back also.
I said this b4, if Woodgate recovers fully and is ready 2 start with the team from the beginning of the season, the team doesnt need a centre back.

Re: The Stars Of The Backline
- If Woodgate recovers he'll be a great cb for us, yes, but how do we know that he will come back this season at 100%? That's why I'm not completely saying that he'll be around.
- Not really much of a reason to say that.
- I said that, please re-read.
- He's good, but to honestly believe that we should just neglect that position until the day Carlos retires is ridicules. We need to find a solid replacement for him.
- I didn't forget. I don't think he will be ready to play up in the senior squad. Pavon was brought up and the pressure got to him, he was said to be the next Hierro etc, look at where he is now. We need to ease them all into it, throwing him into it expecting him to do wonderfully can't be done. A few preseason matches doesn't make him ready for La Liga.
- No one forgot them, but comparing Salgado to Maldini and Cafu... These are two of the oldest and best defenders still playing the game. I never wrote him off either, once again, re-read my statements.
- Diogo won't be a good sub due to his attacking mind and lack of defensive abilities. Once again though, I've only seen him play a handfull of times so this has been my conclusion.
- No. Just no.
- We will see about that.
Just because Woodgate comes back doesn't mean we don't need to add defensive players in the backline. We need atleast 2 more center backs if Woodgate doesn't recover and 1 if he comes back, but I'd still feel safer with 2 more center backs. With how easily he's injured, there is no telling how much he will play this season.

Re: The Stars Of The Backline
well my view is=
Helguera- still a great player and saved your asses alot last season, he had only one bad season, which was the 2003-04 season when they partnered him with pavon
Woodgate- most likely his career is over, even if he is healed in time he wouldnt start for a while and would gradually come off the bench, but he is young only 25
Mejia- a great youth, cna play great in CB or RB, i thik eventually he would replace the great salgado
Pavon- to me he is a big shit, but he is gradually improving
Carlos- hell he is the second greatest in the world(behind Maldini, lol), and he is still going strong, hell dont u guys see the kinda stamina that guy has, he runs up and down the field whole game and never gets tired
Diogo- not sure how he would play, but i am sure he would do great or atleast fairly good, but surely i dont want him starting
Salgado- the best RB in the game, though he looks a bit old the dude runs like he is 25, he still has that magic run up the line, and knows how to keep an attack going, come on honestly when was the last time u saw a good cross come in form the right against Real, lol
Bravo- seriously sucked as a LB, especially during Euro, he alone was the cause for Spain's defeat aginst Portugal, wierdly enough i saw him play a couple of games as a RB and he did well, lol, but we already got alot of CB subs, so i really see no space for him on the team
