Bulgaria falter
The home side were looking for a victory that would have taken them to within two points of their visitors. But instead they fell to fourth behind Hungary and are now seven points adrift of second-placed Sweden, whose 6-0 win against Malta today keeps them within sight of Croatia.

Croatia dominant
Unbeaten Croatia were dominant throughout, and went ahead in the 18th minute when Ivica Olic and Niko Kranjcar combined to feed Marko Babic, who from the edge of the area found the target with a strong shot.

Berbatov denied
Ten minutes later the 40,000 home supporters were given hope when the ball came to Dimitar Berbatov, but his header did not find the target. Croatia broke, and Dado PrÅ¡o crossed for Kranjcar, but his half-volley was saved by Dimitar Ivankov. Berbatov again went close, but was booked in the closing stages meaning he will be suspended in Sweden on 3 September.

Tudor pounces
Croatia doubled their lead 12 minutes after half-time. Olic was again involved, producing an incisive pass for Igor Tudor to finish from close range.

Kranjcar success
With 17 minutes left, Bulgaria were given hope when Martin Petrov's free-kick caught out Tomislav Butina in the Croatian goal. However, seven minutes later Kranjcar broke through the Bulgarian defence and this time Ivankov could not deny him.

Coach satisfied
"My lads followed my tactical directions perfectly," said Croatia coach Zlatko Kranjcar. "We had targeted this win, and we achieved it." His team next go to Iceland on 3 September.

Changes hinted
Meanwhile, his opposite number Hristo Stoitchkov seemed to accept their qualification chances were slim, saying: "This team has a future but we will part with some players. In our last four qualifiers, I will give chances to the young players."

Bulgaria is gonna come back? hahahahahahahahahahahahahah, you'll be lucky if you beat hungary and you can only expect to lost to sweden. Bulgarias dream for 2006 is over so pray that in the 2010 qualifying you don't have us in your group ok.

hehe...guys i watched this game because it was on before the albania - georgia game. and i gotta say bulgaria totally sucks. like ana matour team. some dumb mistakes in defence and no attack at all...i only know this kid bojinov that plays in lecce or something but he didnt seem to do anything...i feel bad for all those fans that were in the stadium cheering the whole time even though bulgaria was playing bad....

lol yes I agree we played bad, but that was really strange cause that was our worst match since ........ long time

But still those who saw the match should agree that when the match was 1:0 we scored a goal which should't had been dissalowed because there was absolutely NO offside!
Then things could have totally changed, as 1:1 in the 50th something minute we would of turned the match!When Marto Scored we could have turned the things again but...... bad luck! Again u deserved the win but still u weren't much better than us, even when our players gave at most 50% of what they can do! I wish there will be a match when both teams will play at their best and then the better team wins, cause last year when we beat u, u said ur players were tired and stuff, then in Croatia we didn't have to play for anything so we gave u the match, a week ago we lost cause our players looked tired and played like shit!
So, I hope we will meet again in 3rd consecutive qualifications

And we had 2 goals when martin scored in the 72nd minute only for niko to make it 3-1!!!! so you are very lost....
