Default The Architect is coming to Sydney, Australia

King Otto in Sydney

Greece national team coach Otto Rehhagel will be the special guest of NSW Premier League club Sydney Olympic during his visit to Australia later this month.

The German coach became a national hero in Greece when he led the unheralded nation to Euro 2004 glory last year in Portugal.

Rehhagel will attend Sydney Olympic's Premier League match against Bankstown City Lions on Anzac Day - Monday, April 25, at OKI Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah. The game kicks-of at 3.30pm.

At 11am on Anzac Day, Rehhagel will be the guest of honour at a Sydney Olympic luncheon at the Grand Roxy in Brighton Le Sands.

The Z-Bar at Brighton Le Sands will host post-game celebrations.

Anybody see the riots in Melbourne ? SM Hellas vs Preston. I love australian
soccer...so passionate

When Sydney Olympic played the maco's here is NSW state league there was
no probs. I have heard that the Hellas fans in melbourne are cut-throat & hardcore....same like the Knights fans

I just read the article you posted in the aussie forum that was the first i'd heard of it, yeah it's true 'that passion' will be missing from the new league, personally i'd like to see the state league champs playoff against each other every year and the winner gets promoted to the A league, that way the people running and marketing the game are still relatively happy coz it's still predominatly 'australian' but will also have a little bit of that old NSL passion to it.

I could'nt give an exact figure but melbourne's supposed to have the biggest greek community in the world outside of greece, also sydney has plenty, when i was growing up my school was about 75% greek.

Mr. Otto Rehhagel expressed his conviction that Greece A΄ National Team will qualify for the 2006 World Cup finals in his statements made in Melbourne, Australia. The German coach had been invited by the Greek football club «Alexander the Great».

Mr. Rehhagel also referred to qualifying group 2 future: «We have two more matches against Turkey and Ukraine and anything is possible. Turkey should be the ones under stress since the match against Greece is their last chance. So the pressure is on them.»

For EURO 2004: «I made my players realize that they shouldn΄t feel stressed when they played. Get onto the field and play ball and we have nothing to lose. But we may also win! This was my first instruction to them. Of course, I had to deal differently with each one of the teams. One should use different tactics against France or the Czech Republic for instance. Each country have their strong points but also their weak ones. That΄s where one should hit.»

Mr. Rehhagel also spoke about the way he handles the internationals: «My philosophy is to hearten my players and boost their morale. I speak to each one separately but also to all of them as a group. In order to achieve our aims we have to be united, like a fist.»

As to the team΄s future, he denoted: «Right now my players΄ age average is 28. They are very good and know how to play ball. However, the football authorities in Greece should pay special attention to the young players, and particularly the ones between 22 and 24 years old. Before I leave Greece we should all work together to lay the foundations for the next generation to come. Greece is a small country but they have worked miracles and this should not go in vain.»

Finally, he spoke about the A΄ National Team fans: «They are fantastic. Previously, fans attending were so few one could count. Today, tickets sell out long before every match.»
