    Default official olympic hockey thread

my thread so i'll start ...

whoever stands in CANADA'S way will be pumelled to the ground in the most gruelling fashion. the yanks, czechs, russians, swedish meatballs ... you've got no chance. we're too deep in talent and our goaltending is the best in the world. furthermore, gretzky has promised an offensive-minded team not one that tries to play like the europeans. therefore we're gonna be runnin' and gunnin' all the way to the gold medal podium no doubt BABY !!!!!!!

try and stop us, you'll only be embarassed.

    GO CANADA GO !!!

this time its in north america so your corrupt refs will not be so much of a factor. all your european refs are cheats. the IIHF is run by europeans so whenever an IIHF sanctioned tournament is held in europe, they reserve the right to state the name and nationality of the official. that's bizarre.

Oh, come on, you are not serious, are you? On 1998 Olimpics, when mostly referees from USA and Canada were involved, how come, you couldn't make it to the finals?? I find your argument about european referees as cheaters pathetic. And how come you cheer Canada and not your beloved Italy?

because i live here. if italia were involved i'd cheer them on too ... but they're not. i guess i got the best of both worlds now

nonetheless, regarding european officiating, its BRUTAL ! lots of them don't even follow the rules. the IIHF rules are exactly the same as the ones in the NHL or in north american junior hockey leagues (with the exception of the icing and 2 line offside). yet whenever a european official officiates one of the north americans games, we get penalized every 2 minutes because apparantly ... we're being too aggressive. oh really, i suppose they want us to play like ballerinas now ? similar to how they play in europe or something ? they might, but when they're officiating internationally, they should follow the rules of the IIHF like that american did today when we thrashed the swedes -- not how the game is officiated in your european leagues where all 10 players on the ice are figure skating ...

Oh come on, some of your players are really brutal. Isn't a known fact that there are players in NHL teams, which duty is only to initiate fights or "protect" the team starts??

I don't want hockey to be figure skating, as you say, but still technical play should be more important than physical aggresiveness. That's why I don't like north american teams. But european players that play in NHL are used to this kind of play already and probably that's why it was Czech Republic vs Russia the finals at 1998 Olympics, no matter that your referees were involved. And so should be it this year, with the exception of Russia victory.

I don't agree. Best from both worlds are Brazil and Russia. That's what I cheer for (of course, only after Slovenia).

indeed it is. and that's why all the stars of the league skate freely and are rarely touched. i'll put it to you this way, without those enforcers all those european ballerinas come home in body bags or crippled. you should be thankful rather than mocking them.

I don't want hockey to be figure skating as you say, but still technical play should be more important than physical aggresiveness. That's why I don't like north american teams.

hockey is figure skating in europe. however you need to take a look at TEAM CANADA's squad to prevent yourself from contradicting yourself any further. you don't like north american teams (ie) canada because you think we emphasize aggression however you're ignoring the fact we are the most skilled team going to the olympics. what's that all about ? are you aware a handful of our forwards are --- mario lemieux, joe sakic, paul kariya, eric lindros, theo fluery and simon gagne ? and remember i just named a couple.

what about our defence ? blake, pronger, niedermayer, jovanovski etc etc ... which country, i repeat COUNTRY can boast to having atleast 4 defencemen of their quality nevermind the whole continent which is all you can compare to canada.

goaltending ... do i have to go there ? cujo, brodeur ... you're ignorant.

you don't live in either country, actually you pretty much have no affiliation to either as well so no i don't think you do have the best of both worlds. a brasilian-russian would ... i don't see where slovenia fits into this
