  2. Format the chats :
  3. once you un-collapse the chatbox formatting toolbar by clicking on the BBCode button, you have access to different formatting options for your chats. You can format a chat by selecting a part (or the totality) of it and then select one of the buttons/list. Default My Trip To Uruguay

So for the 2nd time since I moved to the US, and first time since I was 8 years old, I get to visit the mother country, where I was born and the place I will always be proud to call my homeland.

I embark on Wednesday, have 12 hours in Brasilia (where I will watch the Libertadores Final) and arrive at Uruguay on Thursday, with hopefully half the country in the airport ready to receive me, errrr... I mean the players.

My family has a lot of sports themed trips they want to take me at i.e. Goes game, Harlem Globtrotters show, as well as a tour of the Estadio Centenario and Peñarol museum, and hopefully, a surprise trip to the Copa America, which I doubt it happens.

I will probably come back to the States with 35lbs more as I will live and sleep in the "Mercado del Puerto".

The country won't be the same after my visit

I didnt know where else to put this but feel free to move it

Its been good so far other than the fact that we just got robbed. Left some stuff we had bought in the trunk of the car at night and now its not there. They unlocked the car when they saw the bag and they took it. Among the stuff was two Uruguay jerseys

I just got back yesterday after taking 3 airplanes

Uruguay was good after 9 years (over half of my life). It truly is a beautiful country. The only thing it lacks is the opportunities and the security that me and my family have here in the USA

As I mentioned, the first day I left some bags in the car for a few mins, and they forced the door open and stole them.
I also saw a dude running at 10PM one day, and when I got to my friends house, an old lady had just gotten robbed by that guy, a 15 year old kid. The cops showed up 40 minutes later.

Talking about cops, in my 3 weeks there, I saw a grand total of 5 cops. 2 of which were guarding a bank, and the other 3 were at the basketball game I went to. That is pretty bad.

Talking about basketball, I went to 2 Goes games. Goes plays in the B division of Uruguayan Basketball, but are if not the biggest team, one of the top in terms of fans. I went to the games against Atenas, which is another big team, and against Larranaga, which is a fairly small team. There is nothing like Uruguayan Basketball. The skill of the players is shaky, but the passion in the stands is incredible. I learned the songs during the 1st game I went to, and in the 2nd game, I was sitting right under the camera men (who repeatedly told me to sit down) singing off the top of my lungs. The players are clearly Uruguayan as Goes shot back from a 12 point deficit with 2 minutes left to go, to be within 3 points of winning the game, which we would've done had it not been for the refs.

I also got to visit the Estadio Centenario and its museum. The museum cost 5 US Dollars and it was AMAZING. We also got to see a movie about the 1st world cup as well as one about the 2010 World Cup.

Food was great. My family did not take me to the Mercado del Puerto , but I ate 5 Chivitos (Marcos was the best), Faina, Lesmeyun (best food I ate on the trip), as well as some Asados and Panchos de la Pasiva

I also visited Piriapolis, Punta del Este, and Colonia, which are 3 must see places, especially the last 2.

    I wish I could've stayed a little longer.

    It is.

I've been living here for 23 years and never got robbed or something like that, neither my family, but looks like urufl's luck is different.

It really depends on the area. I was staying in Pocitos, one of the nicest neighborhoods, but the problem is that the thieves go to the nicest neighborhoods to steal. My particular robberie was because I left something in the car in clear view. They can steal it in any country in the world. Thing is that the car was locked and the thief forced the door open.

The problem is at night. If you are alone at night in the street, chances are you can get robbed. My cousin got his car hijaked and they even took his girlfriend with them. Its rare, but like in every country, it happens

I like to live in the relative safety that I have where I live. I have had the GPS stolen a couple of times when I have left it in clear sight with the car unlocked, but I have also left my wallet and my phone in clear sight without anything hapenning.

If your careful, nothing will happen. But if you're not, like in any country, GOODLUCK
