The rising sea temperatures of the ocean have a conseqential effect on the planet due to ecological destruction, glacial melting, and increase of major hurricanes.
The rising sea temperatures of the ocean have a conseqential effecton the planet. Rising sea temperatures in the oceans can be blamed on many different events, but a main one we can discuss is coral bleaching, coral bleaching is when corals lose their color. Coral bleaching first became in issue on the coral reefs in the South Pacific in the 1990's. The skeletal structure of hard corals are usually white, but due to zooxanthellae algae (dinoflagellates) they are colored. Most of the time during the day the zooxanthellae photosynthesize, of course the corals highly benefit from this photosynthesis and also the algae benefits from the nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon dioxide produced in this way. The corals actually have the ability to control the amount of zooxanthellae in their tissues, they can get rid of it at any time. However coral bleaching makes corals lose their color and brings them into stress. Bleaching is a problem because corals will ultimatley put them into a very stressful state which might stop them from growing and reproducing. Many events cause coral bleaching, but the main one is global warming. Bringing an end to coral reefing will of course take a lot of time and struggle, but if it is stopped it will bring piece to the most efficient marine ecosystem that is home to many different species.
A glacier can simply be described to someone as huge a huge block of ice. So why exactly are glaciers melting so quickly today? Of course because of risen sea temperatures which ultimatley came to be because of global warming. All over the globe where glaciers exist it seems like something is going wrong, from the Alps to the Andes the worlds glaciers are melting at a very accelerated rate due to rising sea temperatures and global warming. The United Nations in 2007 admitted that the Himalayan glaciers will most likely be melted away by the year 2035. Another fun fact that might not to sound fun to many Peruvians is that the Quelccaya ice cap actually the largest in the tropics will be dried about by the year 2100 which won't effect many of us of course, but it will leave thousands asking where their water has went. If glaciers keep melting at the status they are now it can effect the world economically, agriculturally, and ecologically. Many animals depend on fresh water from glaciers to live, the streams and rivers will run dry and ruin drinking water for people, the farmers farmland will become dry ruining crops. Most people in today's world don't see glacial melting a big deal at this time, but i can assure you in about 100 years every single human being on Earth will be effected dramatically by this phenomenon.
The number of hurricanes have increased everywhere in the world, but in the Atlantic hurricanes have almost doubled in the past century due to global warming. Even since 1970 tropical ocean temperatures have risen about 0.5 degree C which could be a great reason to why most hurricanes now adays are either category 4 or 5. According to many nature researchers they estimate every 1 degree of C increase int he surface temperature of the ocean would result in about a 30% increase in global frequency of category 4 and 5 storms.
don't mind it... test
