Greek cup 2010/2011

Today it was announced that there will be changes in the system of the new year's Greek cup. It was also announced that the final will be played in the Olympic stadium of Athens this year as well.

Here is a description of the new system:

Round 1

The 36 teams of the 3rd division will participate in this round. There will be 18 single games, in case there is a draw in some of them they will go on with extra time and penalties.

Round 2

The 18 winner teams of the 1st round and the 18 teams of the 2nd division will participate in this round. There will be 18 single games that will take place in the home of the teams qualified from the 1st round. The games ending with a draw go on with extra time and penalties.

Round 3

From the 18 winner teams of the 2nd round, 4 of them will be drawn to face each other in 2 single games. If the teams come from a different division, the game will be played in the home of the team coming from the smaller division. If they come from the same division, the game will be played in the home of the team that will be drawn first. The 2 winners will qualify to the next round while the 14 remaining tams will qualify to the next round without a game.

Round 4

The 16 teams that qualified from the 3rd round will face the 16 clubs of the Superleague in single games with the extra time and penalties rule. The games will be played in the home of the lower division clubs.

Round 5

The 16 teams that qualified from the 4th round will face each other in single games and the home teams will be decided by a draw. But this time the games that will end with a draw will be replayed in the home of the other team and the team that will qualify will be decided there.

Round 6 (quarter finals) and after

These round will take place with the known system, with 2 knockout games in the stadiums of both clubs and the away goal rule will be applied.
