Italian Media Claims Wolfsburg Striker Edin Dzeko Sends Juventus Come And Get Me Plea As English Reports Suggest Manchester City Deal Is Done
Manchester City target Edin Dzeko has reportedly sent Juventus a text message telling them to sign him...

Juventus' interest in Edin Dzeko won't be eroded by Manchester City's millions as the 24-year-old Wolfsburg striker would prefer a Serie A move.

City have been in talks with the player's entourage, but negotiations struggled to yield a result after reports suggested the German club's €40 million asking price paused talks.

Headlines in the United Kingdom on Monday claimed City had agreed a cut-price deal for Dzeko worth around €27m, but they face further complications as the player would prefer to sign for Juventus.

Tuttosport says the Italians will not give up on Dzeko after the player's agent Irfan Radzepagic told his client there was an offer on the table.

And, after being informed by the agent, Dzeko took the matter further by sending Juventus a text message: "If you want me make an offer," he reportedly said.

It seems there is a divide between buying power and the player's will, meaning a Juventus move depends on whether they can match City's bid.

Raising cash in Turin to force a Dzeko deal depends on Amauri leaving the club. The 30-year-old Brazilian-born Italy international has been tipped to move out, but he won't budge, reportedly also using a text to inform his club: "I will not move from Turin."

One further spoke in the wheels for Juventus could come from a report in the Daily Mail, which suggests that Bayern Munich are willing to offer €35 million for Dzeko.

Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Old Lady are looking at potential alternatives in Lazio's Sergio Floccari, Fiorentina's Alberto Gilardino and Genoa hitman Luca Toni.

    Buffon to push out Storari?

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon could make his comeback earlier than expected, leaving Marco Storari to consider his future at the club.

Buffon recently returned to training after a six-month injury lay-off following a major back operation in the summer.

The 32-year-old has apparently been very impressive since his return to Vinovo, giving Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri a headache ahead of this week's match against Parma.

Storari hasn't really put a foot wrong during his time as Buffon's stand-in, establishing himself of one of Italy's best goalkeepers.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that given his burgeoning reputation, he wouldn't accept a place on the bench even at Juventus.

In the meantime, though, the Old Lady hopes to re-negotiate Buffon's contract with the club.

Buffon currently earns €6m a season, which is a heavy burden on Juventus' finances.

It's no secret that Beppe Marotta, the club's general manager, would like Buffon to accept a wage cut and one that would see him take home just over half of his current pay packet.

Toni, Floccari or Gilardino for Juve

Juventus plan to sign a striker in the January transfer and have Luca Toni, Sergio Floccari or Alberto Gilardino in their mind, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Gigi Del Neri would like a prolific goalscorer to lead his attack to take some of the burden off the rest of the team.

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta is known to be very keen on Gilardino who recently changed his agent, possibly to facilitate a move away from Fiorentina.

Fans of the Viola have already started to get on Gilardino's back, especially as speculation mounts that he will move to Turin in exchange for Amauri.

However, the likelihood of such a deal seems difficult, so Marotta has drawn up a couple of alternatives to satisfy the team's requirements.

La Gazzetta understands Amauri could also form part of a deal to sign Floccari, but even that would appear difficult considering his importance to Lazio.

The prospect of loaning Luca Toni has also been sounded out, while some reports suggest Juventus intend to swap to Davide Lanzafame for Brescia's Andrea Caracciolo.

    Iaquinta out for 20 days

Vincenzo Iaquinta will be sidelined for around three weeks, Italian giants Juventus have confirmed this evening.

The Azzurri international limped out of training yesterday with an injury which caused some concern at Vinovo.

The former Udinese ace underwent a number of medical tests today which highlighted a left thigh strain problem.

Juventus have estimated that the player will thus be sidelined for around 20 days in total if all goes well in his rehabilitation.

Boss Gigi Del Neri will now have to consider his striking options ahead of Thursday’s game against Parma.

Amauri could be a possible replacement after he recovered from his pre-Christmas injury and played a part in today’s 5-0 friendly win over Lucento.

“I don’t know if he’ll play against Parma,” stated Del Neri. “I hope so as Iaquinta is missing, but we’ll see over the next few days.

“Amauri has not completely recovered, let’s say that he is on the road to recovery,” he continued.

“He played for 65 minutes against an amateur team and he needs time to get back to his best, but he is working on it.”

Cigarini could be a Juve target

Luca Cigarini’s agent expects his client to be targeted by Juventus should the Bianconeri sell Momo Sissoko in January.

The Sevilla midfielder has been linked with the Old Lady in recent times and Giovanni Bia has done little to cool the rumours of a possible switch.

“Although no negotiations have taken place yet, Cigarini is certainly a name that Juventus would like – especially if Sissoko leaves,” the representative told Sky Sport Italia.

“Sevilla want to keep him for the time being, but let us just wait and see whether there is a chance of a January return to Italy.”

The 24-year-old would need permission from Napoli to move on though seeing as he is currently only on loan to his Spanish club from the Azzurri.

Sissoko has been linked with an exit given that he has lost his place in the first team plans of boss Gigi Del Neri.

Juve are apparently ready to sell should any club offer at least €8m for the former Liverpool man. A number of German clubs are keen.

    Blog: Keep or sell Buffon?
Selling Gianluigi Buffon would be a wise financial move for Juventus, but Serafino Ingardia believes the ‘keeper is still one of the best in the world

It is incredible how memories of a great player can sometimes be quickly erased following an injury. As the game goes on, players who were once regarded as the best get quickly forgotten during a spell on the sidelines – even by their own fans.

This is exactly the case of Gianluigi Buffon, a Juventus legend, Italy No 1 and arguably one of the finest goalkeepers on the planet. Surely everybody in calcio remembers that? Unfortunately, it seems that a troubled season followed by an injury which had already caused him to struggle over the past 12 months has been enough to spoil his reputation around the world.

The ‘keeper who was once known as Superman, and who followed Juventus to Serie B despite having Europe’s wealthiest clubs queuing up for him, has nowadays grown apart from his own team. No longer praised or missed even by directors and teammates.

It seems almost impossible that his relationship with Juventus could brutally end considering all he has given and received since joining from Parma. But the current scenario is far from perfect as the recent comments coming out of Vinovo underlined. The key point is Buffon’s wage is way above Juventus’ limits.

Since Beppe Marotta’s arrival at the club, the Bianconeri have been trying to reduce their most hefty voice of expenses – salaries. As it stands now, Buffon is Juve’s highest paid player with a contract of €6m per year until 2013. By selling him, aside from the eventual transfer fee, Juventus would also be saving €18m, which at Italy’s current taxation rises up to approximately €30m.

It doesn’t take much to see that the departure of Juve’s No 1 would be a great deal for the club. Furthermore, Marco Storari has done a superb job so far in replacing Buffon and it would make sense, as Gigi Del Neri hinted, to continue with him in between the sticks.

But while financially there is no doubt that selling Buffon would be a huge boost for Juve’s budget, from a strictly technical and moral point of view it would be a big mistake.

Buffon is still one of the best goalkeepers around and Juve wouldn’t be able to find anyone as good as him. He is still the ‘keeper worth 15 points per season he used to be. Furthermore, he has almost become a Bianconeri bandiera for his contribution. In a time when the club is trying to win back the love and respect of fans, selling one of its more respected and admired players would be an own goal.

Gigi will turn 33 by the end of this month but he has made it clear that he intends to carry on playing until 40. In the meantime, the Bianconeri have secured the services of a talented 17-year-old, Nicola Leali from Brescia, who would ideally be ready to become Gigi’s successor when he retires.

At this stage giving up on Buffon and putting your faith in 34-year-old Storari would be a mistake for several reasons. To start with, Marotta won’t be making much by selling Gigi in the January transfer window considering that he has been sidelined for a while now. Furthermore, Buffon can still make the difference for this club until June while Juve’s image would be hurt by his departure.

Then of course if a €20m bid was made in the summer, Juve would have to consider their options but for the time being they should stick with the Italian international and see what happens. After all, Buffon will always be a legend of calcio and sometimes reputation and achievements are more important than money – even at a budget attentive club like Juventus.

Goal.com EXCLUSIVE: Edin Dzeko Juventus Ultimatum - Make Me An Offer In 48 Hours Or I’ll Join Manchester City
    - Dzeko wants Serie A and Juventus
    - Juve have 48 hours to make an official bid
    - If no offer is forthcoming, Dzeko will join Man City
    - Wolfsburg & City have already agreed transfer fee

    By Carlo Garganese

Wolfsburg star Edin Dzeko has given Juventus 48 hours to make him an official offer, or else he will complete his move to Manchester City, Goal.com International can reveal.

The Bosnian has been the centre of intense media speculation over the past few weeks, with the English press adamant that only personal terms separate the hitman from finalising his transfer to Eastlands.

The Italian media has long since claimed that Dzeko would prefer a move to Serie A in order to join long-term admirers Juventus, who were very close to signing him last summer before they instead used up their one non-EU berth on CSKA Moscow’s Milos Krasic. The Old Lady did obtain an option on Dzeko, though, as part of the deal that saw Brazilian playmaker Diego move to Wolfsburg for a cut-price fee of €15.5 million.

Goal.com International has now learned that Dzeko – who due to Serie A EU rules cannot join Juventus until the summer – is desperate to move to the Bianconeri at the end of the current campaign and has handed them a 48-hour ultimatum to present an official offer.

If this is not forthcoming, then Dzeko will instead complete his transfer to Manchester City, most likely on Thursday, for a fee in the region of €32m. City and Wolfsburg have already agreed upon a transfer fee, but the Bosnian has yet to give the green light as he clings onto hope of Juve.

A source close to the player told Goal.com: "Dzeko has made it clear many times that Serie A is his favourite league and that he wants Juventus.

"However, he cannot wait around forever. We are talking about one of the best forwards in the world and Edin must think as a professional too.

"He cannot wait any longer than 48 hours. It is in Juve's hands, but they are running out of time."

Pointing the way ¦ But where will Dzeko go?

Dzeko’s heart is almost certainly not with Wolfsburg anymore. Goal.com Germany reports that at the club’s mid-season training camp in Marbella yesterday, the 24-year-old’s body language was very poor and he did not speak to any of his team-mates. Dzeko also refused any interviews after the session ended.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini confirmed in his pre-Arsenal match press conference that a fee with Wolfsburg has been settled.

"For Dzeko, I can say only one piece, that we have agreed with Wolfsburg, but we'll speak after Arsenal," he stated.

"I think Dzeko is a good player, all teams in Europe want him."

Tuttosport claims that Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta is considering tabling a bid today of €30m plus Malian midfielder Mohamed Sissoko for Dzeko. Bayern Munich are also attempting a late hijack, but are considered rank outsiders.

Report: Juve close deal for Piazon

Juventus have done a deal for Sao Paulo starlet Lucas Piazon, according to FIFA agent Sabatino Durante.

The 16-year-old is highly regarded in South America and has already been nicknamed the 'new Kaka'.

“Juventus have already closed [a deal for Piazon],” Durante explained in an interview with Tuttosport.

“The problem is that the boy can't come to Italy until he is 18.

“Lucas will be 17 in a few days' time, but his family has venetian orgins: if an Italian passport arrives, he could arrive in Turin in June.

“In any case, he is a fantastic player, a chosen one.

“He is one of those talents who are born every 50 years.

“He is a second striker who could play for any team in Europe. He is a really strong player.”
