Default hooray , we have a striker !!

... is probably what the juventinos are cheering about right now, because according to all reports, salas is coming over in exchange for kovacevic:

Lazio Agree Kovacevic Plus $11 Million For Salas

    08/16/2001

Lazio are believed to have finally agreed a deal with Juventus that will see Marcelo Salas leave Rome.

The Chilean is expected to formally sign with the bianconeri on Tuesday morning with Darko Kovacevic and $11million making the agreed journey from Turin.

Juve were said to be against bundling defender Mark Iuliano in the deal and after protracted talks, the final word was agreed over the phone between Moggi and Cragnotti late on Thursday night. A statement is expected from Lazio in the morning but Juve have so far stayed cautious when questioned. Juve's general director Moggi simply told reporters that: "We have plenty of time, there’s the Berlusconi Trophy against Milan on Saturday and the first Serie A game of the season. We want to be sure of what we’re doing."

still, moggi would be crazy not to go for a deal like that. they get salas, a quality player and proven scorer in italy, for kovacevic, who is an alright player but he's just a part timer, and $$.

lazio are the losers in this deal. what do they need another striker for ? unless they plan on offloading him onto someone else. they should've gone for iuliano.

apparently, moggi wasn't prepared to deal iuliano unless he was getting crespo in return. iuliano's still a hot commodity and moggi did a fine move not exchanging him for salas. they could use him for someone more valuable in the future if by chance salas doesn't pan out.

Sala's is great, and if Juve gives him time on the field, he will prove himself to be one of the greatest. I really hope he does well so he shows his class and magnitude. If he didn't before it's Eriksson and Zoff fault.

    HI ppl
It will be interesting to see Salas playing along with Trezeguet and Del Piero. Will they fit each other? Salas is a bit different from those 2
Even though I like him a lot but I am afraid he is getting old and may be Lazio can be a winner of this deal ? Kovacevic isnt that bad for lazios bench and he is younger if I am not mistaken.
Anyway enjoy Salas playing he'll give a good show this season!
hope he wont score against Inter

saying Salas is old I mean his style of playing seems to me a bit old and slow comparing to current italian top scorers

what's so old about his style ? he can create, dribble through defences and is dangerous in the box. there's nothing primitive about his game, in fact, i think he's your protypical modern day striker. he can do a bit of everything.

I agree ... but Salas is not a guy who'll put in 20 or 30 goals per season.

juve don't need another 20-30 goal guy. they already have trezeguet. if you figure ...

    20-25 from trezeguet
    15 from salas
    10-15 from del piero
    10 by nedved

plus the rest of the squad that will combine for roughly 10-15 goals, juve should be fine.

    Last season stats
    Trezeguet 14 goals
    Del Piero 9 goals
Salas scored 7 for Lazio ok say he can double it in Juve
    Nedved 9
but still Indzaghi had 11 goals Zidane scored 6 Kovacevic 5
overall Juve scored 61 goals last season
Do you really think that Juve attack would be better this year???
At least they need some time to get to know each other and Zidane has left
So stop dreaming ! Lucky you if Juve would score 60 goals this year
