They played well but those fouls committed by Uruguay were not necessary. They basically had possession of the match till that one dude got red carded.

Not so bad...they controlled pretty much everything France threw at them...If they can do that with France they should be able to hold Mexican strikers as well. Ribery was no non-existent.

And they still managed to create the most dangerous chance through Forlan...can't believe he missed that chance on the second half.

That U20 kid Lodeiro is massively talented but his inexperience showed...it was a stupid foul...

I think the Mexico v Uruguay might also be a draw...

so if Uruguay beat S.Africa...a real chance...then they will be through and Mexico will have to fight against France for that other slot...

I think this group will not be decided till the very last match.

It was a bad match, but we were able to control France and we didnt suffer a lot.. Arévalo, Godín, Perez and Forlán were all good..

I expected more, but after watching the match, we got a nice result.

No words about the kid Lodeiro..

Ehh no excuses, we have all played with the ball for quite some time now. No one was complaining when we were playing in the Mexico and the USA friendlies.

So what should the team against SA look like? I think you take out Nacho and put in Cavani. He played really well there against Colombia until he was subbed out after the red card. Or maybe you can pull Forlan back, which he does anyways, and have Suarez and Cavani as the strikers. And put El Loco for the 2nd half, which is what he specializes at. Catching the other team by surprise when they're tired. If he plays from the start, they figure him out very quickly.

    Thoughts?

Knowing Tabarez, I think he'll keep the same team. You have to understand that France did very very well in shutting down el Nacho. Though im one of the few who was satisfied with his performance. Man, he has such a way with the ball.

    My points from the game
    - Lugano getting in that French player's face made me smile. God what a badass. I don't understand why some people are saying he made mistakes. I thought he played amazingly well. He put Henry and Anelka in his pocket.
    - Defensively, Uruguay was absolutely fantastic. Everyone played their part. Godin, Arevalo and Victorino had MONSTER Games. They were going up the elite of the elite and beating them convincingly. Especially Palito and Maxi. I thought both were phenomenal (in defense).

    - Midfield. Maxi and Palito had to pull back to defend so they couldn't really break down France.
Nacho (who I thought played well, for the most part) was fighting off 2-3 french players every possession.
El Ruso Perez has a massive Football IQ. Unfortunately his physique started to show as he could barely keep up with the French players. He still is key on our squad though.

    - Forlan : A monster. My best friends were messaging me during the game saying it too. He's completely mastered his dribbling technique. I remember in Man U when it seemed like he was too fast for what he was trying to do. What a player. He carried Uruguay's entire offense , convincingly , throughout the game.
    - Suarez- Suarez is ...well Suarez. He'll play 1 game badly, but create that 1 key chance (when Forlan almost scored, that was brilliant on his part). Reminds me of Recoba. Hopefully he'll have games like the one he had vs. Colombia.

    - Loco basically earned his spot on the team for blocking Henry's free kick at the end .

Just want to say that I don't think we should automatically change. Idiots online (journalists) are all saying we should play 3 up vs. South Africa.
    1) We are not "Brazil Jr." , like Mexico tried to pull off (and successfully did....for 5 minutes) against South Africa.
    2) Uruguay has its style. We have a famous defensive tradition.....and going toe to toe vs. France would have been suicide. Even in 2006, Italy was completely dominated by France throughout the 120 minutes before the PKs.

    3) For better or for worse, we have positives and negatives on our side.
Yes , I would have played Papelito instead of Lodeiro (you have no idea how amazing Seba Fernandez is. His football IQ, ability to find forwards ....is through the roof.).

I'd play with the same team on Wednesday. Maybe Alvaro Fernandez might come in the middle. But IMO the team is fine. We played well vs. France and had Forlan scored it would have been a justified result.

im completly with bolso we so think a like.....there is no need 2 panic every played well, nacho is an awsome player though i belive it wasnt a game for a number10, i would of brought cavani instead of abreu coz his another workhorse......2 perirras had 2 drop back im suprised he didnt switch to a 433, with caceres coming in and cavani for nacho and palito or maybe surez...

suarez didnt have much service so i cant complain about him, every 1 played well rios amazed me perez is a beast and i sure ribery will be called the police coz he was absolutly raped by maxi and victorino it was a gang bang.....forlan, man he is fire though he did hesitate to pass to suarez sometimes.... but wow i want a poster of him so can pray to him

im proud of our boys and we had the best chances even though they dominated.....

next games will be more open and more exciting, but no need 2 panic, it will be more naacho and abrues type of games thought sad 2 see lodeiro gone..... f

D I noted that too...I was keeping a close eye on our man Victorino and he put on quite a good double act with Maxi on Ribery...they nullified him completely...I think he got away just once at the beginning.

Danubiano, we'll stick together throughout the world cup as the only two optimists on this forum . lol.

    btw, for your viewing pleasure.

what an emotional moment this was for me, especially when the players came out. The 4 years were worth it right there. Love the jumpers too. Beautiful and classy.
