Who'll be "Pichichi" 2003?
What do you think? Who will be topscorer in Spain when the current season closes it's doors for the next frustratingly long and cold summer break?
Many big names flew down the river of glory since basconian Sociedad-marksman Bienzobas won the first Pichichi-competition in 1929. Most of them were paid by the (so far) everlasting topdivisioners in spanish football Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Athletic Bibao. Zarra for the basconian side, all time topmarksman in spain by the way, the legendary Di Stefano, the soon as legendary Raúl and mexican record-holder with 38 goals (alongside the already mentioned Zarra) Hugo Sanchez for Real Madrid, austrian football-symbol Krankl as well as 1994 world champion and topscorer of Cruyffs 1992 Barça-DreamTeam Romario, just to name a few of them. But the Pichichi-trophy can also be a target for strikers of smaller clubs. Salva gaining the trophy for Santander, Pahino for Celta and Pizzi for Tenerife are proof to these words. However, conquering the trophy is very tricky given the fact that brazilian Superstar Rivaldo did not make it in 5 years with Barça and 1 with Deportivo.
This season "La Liga" offers us a lot of profilic strikers who are worth being added to that list. I am explicidly thinking of Raúl, Kluivert, Salva, Makaay, Tristan, Ronaldo and Saviola of the spanish Champions league Armada of clubs who happen to be Barça, Real Madrid, Deportivo La Coruna and Valencia. I am also thinking of Victor from Villareal or Catanha from Celta de Vigo.
Personally I've been telling since two years now that "this year's going to be the one of Kluivert" ... it's by the time now! ;)
Kluivert gets my vote ... when he laerns to make the easy ones he could net in 30 times with ease IMO.
(hi Pepe good to c another Gooner on the board)
I have to agree Roy Makaay is on gr8 form. I've liked him since he played at Tenerife (I remember a gr8 game against Madrid where he came off the bench and scored 2goals) he ALWAYS hits the target. His left and right foot seem equally lethal, his movement brilliant and he has an amazing knack of shooting when the keeper doesn't expect it - early or from a tight angle. He actually reminds me of Ian Wright (Arsenal's all time record goalscoring hero) except he doesn't have quite as much pace.
One player none of you have mentioned (I know he's injured for a while but he has the talent to catch up when he returns) is Pablo Aimar - not an out and out goalscoring predator he may create more goals than he scores but he has the ability to win it.
Biggest disapointment 4me is Javi Moreno a previous pichichi winner who isn't really delivering 4Athletico yet.
