Friendlies against Ecuador and Uruguay

As part of the preparation for the World Cup qualifiers set to begin 12 months from now, Venezuela will play friendly matches against two of the teams that just played the WC, Ecuador and Uruguay.

The match against Ecuador will be in October 9th, while the game with Uruguay will be played on November 20th.

The match against Uruguay will be specially interesting, as the "celeste" will look for revenge after their 2-0 defeat last year in the WC qualifiers, in a game that changed the game of Venezuelan football.

Juan 08-26-2002 04:27 PM

I have a Venezuelean friend in Panama his name is Joynel and his favcourite club is Union Tachira :)

who is the best from Venezuela?

Cari Cari?

Well, I personally prefer Juan Arango (plays for Pachuca in Mexico). Of those who play in the Venezuelan league, Cari Cari and Miguel Mea Vitali (plays for Caracas) are the best in my opinion.

Well, the game againt Ecuador is tomorrow. Sadly, Arango and right back/right wing Hector Gonzalez didn´t get permission from their clubs to join the squad. Also, I´m getting mad at the FVF for not definitely calling up players like Alex. Don´t let him slip from between our fingers like Julio Alvarez did. At least our fantasista, Gabriel Urdaneta, will be back in the squad.

:D 2-0

Venezuela starting lineup: Angelucci; Vallenilla, Rey, Vielma, Ribero; Perez, Jimenez, Mea Vitali, Urdaneta; Noriega, Garcia

Even though we lacked many of our first choice players, Venezuela did another display of great football, with solid defending and good ball possesion, against an Ecuadoran side that also lacked many top choice players, and dedicated mostly to fight the ball of Venezuelan players on midfield.

The first goal came on a Mea Vitali free kick which Rey precisely headed to the net, while the second came on a beautiful counteratttack finished by substitute Wilfredo Moreno.

Uruguay will come and play with mostly youngsters playing in the local league. That´s bad since I hoped to see Recoba & co. but that makes beating them easier ;)

Venezuela´s list for Wednesday:

Goalies: Gilberto Angelucci (Dvo Táchira), Manuel Sanhouse (Caracas FC).

Defenders: Alex Pereira Amorín (Recreativo, Spain), Rafael Mea Vitali (Waldhoff Mannheim, Germany), Luis Vallenilla (Dvo Táchira), Leonel Vielma (Estudiantes), Andrés Rouga, Jorge Rojas, Jobanny Rivero (Caracas FC)

Midfielders: Juan Arango (Pachuca, Mexico), Gabriel Urdaneta (Waldhoff Mannheim, Germany), Héctor González (Olimpo, Argentina), Miguel Mea Vitali (Caracas FC), Luis Vera (Monagas SC), Leopoldo Jiménez (Dvo Italchacao) y Ricardo David Páez (Estudiantes)

Strikers: Ruberth Morán (Dvo Táchira), Daniel Noriega, Wilfredo Moreno (Mineros), Juan García (Monagas SC).

The standout is the presence of Recreativo´s Alex, who appears to have fixed his problems, and is now capable of playing with the Vinotinto. That´s great, we´ll sure gonna need a player of his experience.

With such a list, I would predict a starting lineup like this:

---------------------Angelucci---------------------
Vallenilla-----Alex-------R. Mea Vitali----Rojas
--------------Vera------------M. Mea Vitali-------
Gonzalez/Urdaneta-------------------Arango--
------------Noriega-------------Moran------------

1-0

Starting line-up: Angelucci; Vallenilla, Vielma, R.Mea Vitali, Rojas; Paez, Vera, Jimenez, Arango; Noriega, Moran

A hard fought win, but a win after all. We didn´t play as pretty as earlier games, and our defense wasn´t as solid, but we still did good and won.

Rey and M. Mea Vitali had to come in as substitutes during the first half, and playing improved when they came in. Rey stabilized a shaky defense, while MV added creative force to the midfield. He also created the goal, with a free kick that bounced off Uruguay keeper Munua and Paez touched into the net.

Man of the match was definitely Luis Vera, our skipper. A great aid for both defense and offense, fighting for every ball, and had a great chance with a long distance shot that Munua deflected for the corner.

Long term injury, and starting to make a career off the pitch as Director of the ambitious UD Maracaibo. However, he should be back to goals soon. He´ll have it hard, as Angelucci has been masterful in goal for us.

Nice game! but too bad Uruguay will send their youngsters... I think there's a reason for that though, they know Venezuela has greatly improved over the past couple of years and i'm sure they dont want to get embarrassed. So if they lose with their youngsters, they will at least have an excuse. ;)

I'll be going for Venezuela on this one.. and against the Ecuadorians too.

Whoa! sorry about my last post.. I didnt realize those friendlies where in 2002 ... you have to forgive me, i'm stilll new to this. =)

On a more recent Venezuelan game, today they lost to US 2-0. Goals by Kirovski and Donovan. I cant really comment on this game because I didnt watch it.. I dont even think it was televised.

Peru y tu?
