Something that's not political on this board maybe? What's everyone's favourite band? I'm kinda thinking of rockish/alternative bands like Metallica, U2, Gunners, Offspring, Linkin Park, soggy cookies (Limp Bizkits I mean) but I'm sure there are some boyband lovers (literally... ;)) out there, like the gay players of Inter (all of them...)

Limp Bizkit is a crazy band too!!!
Looney
05-08-2002, 01:20 PM
U2, Metallica ('cept for the napster thing), Live, Offspring, Gunners, AC/DC and Limp Bizkit for sure. I've heard one song by Tea Party and not much by Oasis (tho they're both good). Whatever happened to the Verve? Bittersweet Symphony was played 24/7 on every radio station when it was first released!
What about Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Who and stuff? Oldies but goodies I reckon.
Severus
05-08-2002, 05:59 PM
no doubt. zeppelin, the beatles, the doors, floyd, the eagles, aerosmith, the who. bon jovi rocks too.
the verve looney were a one-hit/CD wonder. they made their millions and jet.
Looney
05-09-2002, 01:32 PM
That is true I suppose, now that I think about it I'd go crazy listening to a new Verve song!
And Incubus, Creed and Lifehouse, three relatively new bands on the scene, I quite like them too.
Severus
05-09-2002, 02:42 PM
incubus is good too. i am not too crazy about creed because the lead vocalist sounds like eddy vedder. their tunes also put me to sleep.

the verve were not a one hit wonder. it might seem that way because that one song got so big but in england they were around for years before that. the band split up because of inside differences between the lead singer and guitar player. just ask the raygun it's one of his favorites.
Looney
05-10-2002, 02:57 PM
So that's what happened to them! Thanx for that, always thought that they just got pissed on their fame and sold out and no one liked their next album or something.
Ronnie Raygun
05-11-2002, 04:47 PM
Richard Ashcroft (singer of The Verve) started playing a bigger role in the song writing and Nick McCabe (guitar player) had less and less. They had several big songs off their last album such as Bitter Sweet, Lucky Man, and Sonnett. Also, The Drugs Don't Work was a big hit in England. Richard Ashcroft is still doing solo work and it's quite good. Check it out.
You can't beat......
Smashing Pumpkins
Sunny Day Realestate
Porca Troia
05-13-2002, 11:59 PM
the story behind the song by the verve (bittersweet symphony) is a classic tale of naivete...it still remains one of my favorite tracks of all time though.
Severus
05-14-2002, 01:58 AM
ronnie, have you ever heard the smashing pumpkins perform live ??? they sound horrible and are a pure studio band i reckon. sure they compose good sounding music but billy corgan can't sing for $hit.
cheers to richard ashcroft though. he's got a couple of good tracks especially his first release as a solo artist which the name has escaped me momentarily.

i think the cd is called "alone with everybody".

Aye Bittersweet's one good song to listen to on the drive home.

To say that you like Tea Party and that Smashing Pumpkins are shit destroys ALL credibility you might have had. Smashing Pumpkins, not unlike Nirvana, created a new brand of rock n roll. Billy Corgan is a musical genius and if you don't think so....then it will be obvious that your no musician...... I am.
Yes, I've seen them live. I loved them live but I can see how people ignorant to how music is played live and people who don't have an understanding of musical production would think Smashing Pumpkins suck live. You can't play Siamese Dream live and expect the songs to sound the same live. Some of those songs had 60 + tracks. How can a 4 man band pull that off?
Chesco

Judging from the bands mentioned here, you guys know as little about music as you do about football :) Only kidding
Seriously though, I enjoy so many different kinds of music it's impossible to narrow it down. Just a few new & old:
Radiohead, Beta Band, Flaming Lips, Mogwai, Badly Drawn Boy, Super Furry Animals, Clinic, Belle & Sebastian, BRMC, the Strokes, American Analog Set, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck
Bob Marley & the Wailers, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Parliament-Funkadelic, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd & THE WHO of course
Wu-Tang Clan, DJ Shadow, OutKast, Beastie Boys, Herbaliser, the Roots, Bounty Killa, Tribe Called Quest, Fugees
Oh & I admit to sort of liking Bocelli as well (heh heh)

More current...
Radiohead, Travis, Coldplay, Stereophonics, David Gray, Blur, Oasis, U2, Richard Ashcroft ***, Beth Orton, The Charlatans, The Chemical Brothers, The Smiths/Morrissey, Depeche Mode, Doves, Elliott Smith, Belle and Sebastian, Foo Fighters, Ian Brown/Stone Roses, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, James, Suede, Massive Attack, Robbie Williams, Portishead, Chili Peppers, Pulp, REM, Starsailor, Beck, Bjork.
Older stuff...
Beatles, Led Zeppelin, CSNY, The Clash, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, David Bowie, CCR, Elvis Presley, Grateful Dead, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, The Ramones, Simon and Garfunkle, The Police.
That's all I can think of right now. :D
***About Richard Ashcroft, he's amazing as a solo artist. At least his first album, "Alone with Everybody" is. Every song on it is good and the album really flows. The Verve were big in the UK before their last album, but that stuff wasn't as good as the last album.

Obviously if your name was Blackdog you would be a Zeppelin fan right? Or you're too stupid
Cheers to the "moderators" as you know who you are . . .

If Looney saw me coming with an Inter shirt on, he'd turn and ran as fast as his little skinny legs could take him with his tail between his legs!
Funny that how Looney's location is supposedly right behind us all kicking our azzes. HAHAHAHA!!!!! :D :D He should be looking over his shoulder to make sure I'm not there ready to take him out. If not, he should be looking over his shoulder just to make sure Viva isn't checking him out! :D ;)

I´m not very fond of commercial stuff. My favorites are Iron Maiden, old Metallica, Megadeth, Stratovarius, AC/DC...
Also like: Iced Earth, Opeth, Pantera...
Older bands: LedZep and Deep Purple mostly
More commercial stuff: Korn and Papa Roach

Every band you just mentioned is commercial.

That's true. even Metallica's gone commercial in the 90's.

Funny that, I was at my uni just the other day with my Milan shirt on and this Interista Idiot had his Nerazzurri shirt... we walked past each other and stared hostilely, my mates were going like "watch it... don't do it..... there's too many witness' here".
Notice my location's now basically anywhere but Toronto, and Viva's probably too poor to get out of Toronto, so my ass' safe for now. ;)

Severus,
you said, . bon jovi rocks too. .
Are you are 14 year old fat chick?
Blackdog,
WP sucks. It is the next godawful music, second only to Christian rock. They can't play instruments and their Cro(at)-mag minds can't put together a coherent sentance. Even Skrewdriver's version of Paranoid is hard to listen to. Do you like Skrewdriver too?
On the other hand, some good music is,in no particular order:
Die Krupps, Meatmen, GWAR, Butthole Surfers, Dick Dale, Rev. Horton Heat, Gil Scott Heron, gusle music, ICP, David Allen Coe, and many more.
