I'm just doing a bit of a scouting trip and am wondering what, barring any injuries, is likely to be the starting line up for Brasil in the WC??

You mean, if the WC began tomorrow? I guess it would be...
Marcos; Lucio, Juan and Edmilson (or Anderson Polga); Cafu, Emerson, ??????, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos; Romario(or Luisao) and Ronaldo (or Edilson).
Marcos isn't the best goalie in Brazil, but he's courageous and Scolari trusts him.
Edmilson and Polga can play as central defenders or as defensive mids, so the third defender spot is between them. Polga currently plays for Gremio but it's been reported that Roma is interested.
The midfield position by Emerson's side is the biggest problem. Vampeta was tried there but he's not playing well currently. I think it should be Leverkusen's Ze Roberto or Lyon's Juninho. Atletico Paranaense's playmaker Kleberson was called up recently and did well in the position, I'd say he's a possibility. Kleberson isn't known in Europe YET, but trust me, he WILL be - he's excellent. ;) This position is still up for grabs.
About the attack... Edilson and Luisao both play in Brazil, and have good chances because Scolari won't have many opportunities to test "foreign-based" players. Both are very good, but of course Ronaldo and Romario are better. If the WC was tomorrow, MAYBE Romario would be there - I think Scolari intends to call Romario, he's just testing alternatives while the media whines about Romario's absence. Ronaldo needs to prove he's really recovered, if he does he's a sure thing in the team.
I don't want to even THINK of going to the WC without Ronaldo and Romario. :( Having both would be perfect, but at least one would be nice. :)

Would that be 3-5-2 with wing backs??
-------------------------------------Marcos
--------------------Lucio-----------Juan----------Edmilson
Cafu-----------------------------------------------------------------R Carlos
-------------------------Emerson-------------?????
-------------------------------------Rivaldo
------------------------------Romario--------Ronaldo
Something like that??
Is there any chance of Lima or Assuncao getting the other holding position alongside Emerson because, as I am sure you are well aware, they have been playing very well this season for Roma (have been particuarly impressed by Lima). I can't however remember either of them playing for Brasil. (Do either of them even have any caps??)
Sorry about all the questions it's just that I do not know too much about the Brazilian NT, as you can probably tell, and would like to find out more about them. I see them as a real threat (speaking as a fan of the Azzurri) in the WC, especially having seen the possible 1st team. Although I don't believe that they could meet until the final, if everything goes to plan.

Lima has never been called to Brazil's NT. So if any other country is interested, he's available, like Donato, Catanha and Paulo Rink were available before him. ;) Assuncao has been called some times, but I don't think his chances of being a starter are good. I believe he MIGHT be Emerson's reserve, though.
The reason for that is that Brazil needs to be more offensive. Emerson plays with another defensive mid in Roma, but in Brazil we can't have that, especially with three defenders. Scolari is looking for a creative-but-defensively-competent midfielder to play with Emerson, and behind Rivaldo. So I don't think Lima and Assuncao have good chances of joining Emerson in the first team.
And yes, it would be a 3-5-2 with wing backs, just the way you imagine it, but with a more offensive midfield.

The empty spot will be fought between Juninho Paulista, GIlberto Silva, vampeta or Juninho Pernambucano....or even Kleberson having an outside chance.
If Luizao does not go to the Wc, and Ronaldo stys injured it might be Franca starting alongside Romario. Franca is playing brilliantly lately, and in my modest opinion he is the most complete center forward of the world today!
Felipao's team is what Garrincha put, but my team would be:
1 Julio Cesar
2. Cafu 3. Lucio 4. Emerson (c) 6. Roberto Carlos
8. Juninho Pernambucano 5. Vampeta
10. Juninho Paulista 7. Kaka
9. Ronaldo 11. ROMARIO
ZDfiel - are we gonna watch the Brazil-Yugo friendly, or what? ;)

Ivan,
Do you know were they will show the game here in Miami???
It will be Ronaldo's and Romario's comeback for Brazil....and that means GOALS!
Cafu - nah, me and ZDF will be lucky if we find a place here in Miami which will show the game on TV

Not sure, I'll look into it... maybe Churchill's? Or Scoreboard? Aren't there any Brazilian bars that you know off?

Thanks for the explanation. I would not count on RoRo being there on the 27th. One is always injured (a sporting tragedy) and one might be out of favour with the tough-talking Gaucho.

Don't think Score board will show. The Brazilian (which is a fried of mine) does not own the bar anymore, it is the post office that does, and they are clueless about football. Think the best bet would be Churchill's, if that.
Cafu,
I almost certain that Romario will go to the WC. Specially after today's training session were Felipao put Franca to play alongside Washigton instead of Edilson. He is thinking in putting Franca to play algonside Romario. Franca of course can play any role in attack, being the target man or the support striker, and this time he is training him to be the support striker of Romario in the WC, as Ronaldo is always injured and Luizao is worried more with judicial battles than in playing football!
Washington = lancky sloppy target man!
The attack that will start the world cup for Brazil in the Wc will either be:
Romario - Edilson
Romario- Franca
of course considering that ronaldo is not fit!
OK, well I'll give Churchill's a call and see what they got on their schedule. If you find out anything let me know here.... anyway I have your cell# so I'll give you a call when game day approaches ;)

OK, man. Big Phil should forget (gordinho) Luizao and the Serginho of 2002: Washington. Better to go with a technical player like Franca than a sledgehammer. Fingers crossed for Ronaldo though. Him and Edilson: maybe.
