Hi!

My team in Brasil: Grêmio from Porto Alegre will play this season with two players that were active for Brasil in the 86 World Cup.

Mauro Galvão - Defender - now 40 years old

and

Valdo - Midfield - 37 years old

So I am just wondering if you guys know other professional teams in the world where two players that play in Mexico´s WC are still active?

Thanks and bye Ricardo

Well in the Brasilian Team there are ¨only¨ two other players that are still active.

Müller - that was even in the starting line up for Brasil in 86, played last season for São Caetano.

Silas - I am not sure if he will keep playing but last year he was still active.

For the other coutries I really dont know.
For the Germans Lottar Matthäus playd in 86 and he stopped just 1 year ago, or something like that.

Enzo Scifo ain't playing anymore. He ist headcoach of Belgian side Racing Charleroi since about 2 years.

Only one player of German 86 team was still active this season. Local Heroe Olaf Thon played for the glorius FS Schalke 04 (which suprisingly is "my" club... :D ) in the city he was born. Unfortunately he retired now (at the age of 36), so he made his last game as a professional player a few weeks ago.
Before him, the last player of the 86 team to quit was Lothar Matthäus, who made his last game (his 150th) for the national team at Euro 2000. He retired last year at the age of 40.

I am led to believe that Giuseppe Galderisi, who played for Italy in the 1986 world cup only is playing in a Serie B team still, or he was at least last year.

He is the only one i can think of though.

Scottish Defender Richard Gough was also playing for Everton up until the end of the 2004 season !
he nearly played on for 2005 but chose to coach in USA.

Never mind 1986! Socrates recently signed for non-league side Garforth town just outside Leeds (only know about it because it was on the regional news) and he played in 1982! Apparently 'the doctor' gave this quote:

"I may be 50 years old, have a dodgy back and trouble with my ankle, but I'm sure I can bring some special touches to the game. I'll be doing my back-heels, for sure. I'll come up with something interesting."

That was 2004 - still pretty amazing though! Apparently Lee Sharpe got roped into playing for the same team as well!

No, Its not the same Conti.

Bruno Conti played in 1978,82 and 86,and was still young enough to play in 1990 but was not selected.

The other guy you are thinking of has his name spelt differently, i dont know his first name, but his last name ends with an E not an I.
