31 December 2001 (Teamtalk) -- Juventus defender Paolo Montero could be on his way to Real Madrid after the World Cup finals according to reports in Italy today.
Rome-based daily Corriere dello Sport Stadio has claimed that Montero may be sold to make way for Verona stopper Adrián Mutu, with the 'Vecchia Signora' also hoping to lure Patrick Vieira away from Arsenal in June.
Apparently, Montero's old friend Zinedine Zidane has recommended to Real's backroom staff that they sign the Uruguay international.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid central defender Aitor Karanka is considering a move back to his former club Athletic Bilbao after his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu runs out in June.
Karanka was in the Vizcayan capital on Saturday to star for the Basque selection, who beat Ghana 3-2 in a Christmas friendly at San Mamés.
However, AC Milan are at the front of the queue of clubs waiting to swoop for Karanka, who has completed five years with the Spanish giants.
