01 January 2002 (Teamtalk) -- Real Madrid are reportedly set to join rivals Barcelona in the race to sign Mallorca hitman Albert Luque this summer.
The Merengues had earmarked the Catalan striker as a possible partner for Raúl González last summer but any hope of a transfer was quashed when the player renewed his contract with Mallorca.

However, The Islanders are now reportedly keen to cash in on Luque and may decide to sell him to the highest bidder when the summer transfer window opens in July.

Real have been looking for a prolific goalscorer to play alongside Raúl for the past two seasons and Florentino Pérez is believed to have made a verbal agreement with Mallorca chief Mateo Alemany over the transfer of Luque.

Mallorca increased Luque's buy-out fee to £25million last summer but may be willing to halve the fee should an offer come along.
