Emerson. Really? Alternatives please. Roberto Carlos has played more than 80 times and Phil likes him. Is Emerson really the man to lift the penta 9assuming we are anywhere near). Thoughts please....................

Let's see, alternatives to Emerson...
Well, if Juninho Pernambucano (From Lyon) is called up, he might be the man for the job. Roberto Carlos would be another good name, and Ronaldo sounds like a probable future captain as well.
More important than who wears the armband is who will lead the team. A leader is harder to find than a captain. Lucio has been growing a lot and IMO would be a good name too.

Juninho Perm. abso. no chance. Might not even make OS 23. Ronaldo? NO - just let him concentrate on playing. Perhaps Taffarel!!

Lucio could be in with a shout I suppose. He will be 24 in May and that is quite young for a captain but I suppose we can regard him as a titular so...... My guess is that Felipao wil stick with Emerson. I still want more from him though (and Taffarel back in goal!).

Taffarel? I don't really think it will happen, it's not as if we didn't have good keepers; we do. Felipão would probably catch hell if he decided to call Taffa; I mean, Corinthians' fans would scream for Dida, Sao Paulo's boys would demand Rogerio Ceni, Palmeiras supporters would cry for Marcos, Flamengo's bunch would want Julio Cesar. Why get all this hassle when most of these goalies can do the job?
And I must say one thing, I'm praying Marcos doesn't get injured even though I don't think he's the best first keeper. My first choices would be Rogerio, then Julio Cesar, then Marcos. But I've read somewhere that Scolari's second choice for Keeper is Dida!! :depressed :red-card: NOOOO! That's IMO a nightmare scenario: Marcos gets injured in the WC semifinal, and DIDA subs him for the final!! Imagine it! All the opposition has to do is lift the ball over our area and the moron will do the rest!! Brrrr!
Seriously - I wouldn't want Dida for my CLUB! Imagine how I feel about having him in the Seleção... :alien:

Ronaldo was captain in the Copa America 99, and did a damn good job, I think he is your real leader on the pitch, no offense, but Brazil have been awful since his injury problems started.
Im not Brazilian, but I would have Ronaldo as captain. Everyone knows him, and respects him, and he is your best player by far (no offense Rivaldo), and often plays well, inspiring your other players. You've seen Ronnie play for Brazil and Inter, its obvious the mental lift he gives players just having his presence on the pitch.
Ronaldo for Captain. For Sure.

Y'know, that might just be a good idea. The kid does have a good effect on those around him, huh? And charisma is always importat in a captain... ;)

Ronaldo was captain in the Copa America 99,
Not strictly true. He captained the team for one game. Cafu was the captain for the rest of the games and it was he who lifted the trophy. Ronaldo and Rivaldo need to concentrate on playing. The captain should be Antonio Carlos Zago. He must be recalled.

Roberto Carlos can be a good captain too!

Yes. Good point. Big Phil likes him and the relationship between the 2 is good and, of course, he picks himself as a titular. I would still like Antonio Carlos Zago in the team at least.
