In all honesty, I think that England got exactly what they wanted. Now there team can show everybody what the english fans and Media have been raving about. England will show the World!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Bollox. That is it, maybe now the english fans will shut up (not likely). Now its all going to be anout what an injustice it is that England have such a tough group. They complain about not being recognised as being a big team but when they get the big teams they complain of injust treatment!!!!!!!:rolling:

Ireland got a nice draw, I will be there and look forward to meeting the Germans..
France and Brazil got nice draws, isnt that funny?
Italy cant complain, but Croatia wont be an easy team to beat!!!
It worked out nicely for Fifa as most of the bigger teams missed each other, with the exeption of Argentina and 1966 world champions England who are favourates to retain this title!!!:silly:

Argentina's group - the "Group of Death" if any group deserves that title - will be very interesting to follow. I mean, would anyone be REALLY surprised if Nigeria managed to get one of the 2 playoff spots?

And Sweden will have to sweat blood to get anything better than a last place.

Yup, England is really going to have to summon a classic performance this time out. I'm just looking forward to the US making it out of its group, and Mexico not...

I think GrpE and F are going to be real dogfights.

I think Sweden is far from gone in Group F...
England for example hasnt won against them since 1968( 1-1 when they played eachother last, a couple of months ago.)

Most of the games in the groups seem to be uninteresting too many weak teams.
The group of death is really unpredictable.
and you know what Swedes may surprise, I watched live one game and watched many of Sweden's games recently the team is iproving a lot i mean they were pretty bad in 2000 but now they're way better

I can't yet believe how FIFA screwed us. I mean, preliminary everyone thinks ARG will be ok but in a WC you can't really know.
I just hope will keep playing good and intense. On the other hand, I guess you should be pretty grateful Garricha :D, seems Havelange still has some cards up his sleeve :D. All in all, i just can't wait to see the tournament started.

Dont worry, Fifa cant protect the Brazils and Frances forever. I dont think that having an easy draw (for a big team) is good in the group stage. Argentina will of had a tougher work out (because thats all it will be to them, as much as England fans would love to dream!) and I think that tough games will benefit them in the latter stages. ;)

Hell, yes! If England get out of THAT group in one piece, I'll see them in the final. You never know what you're capable of, until your back's to the wall. Well...there they are.

Our group is not the hardest but I think that Cratia and Mexico can play good soccer, especially cratia. Italy and Croatia to me will make it to 1/8 fianls and Italy will face Portugal.

Next year Poland or Argentina will be World Cup winner...
This is my opinion...

Why Poland?
Because Poland has verry good team.
Olisadebe is super in the Panathinaikos, and
Jerzy Dudek is the best goalkepper in the World...

Poland????

are you kidding me?

Drulic
12-04-2001, 04:23 PM
Actually Poland does have a good team, Olisadebe and Dudek are just 2 good players they have, Waldoch and Hajto are good defenders, Swierczewski and Bak are great midfielders, indeed they are not very big names yet. But Poland's NT is a very well oiled machine. It mainly relies on teamwork.

Not a main contender but sure as hell an outsider for the title.

Anyway I'll be supporting them together with Argentina and of course China. ;)

Deamn right! Poland has an excelent team. And I think we ( Slovenija ) can also do amasing things. There will still be a lot of underestimation by the other teams. Remember what have the Croatia done years ago. And remember what happened to the teams, they underestimated us. ( Yug, Rom, Rus, Ukr,... )

( Slovenija ). So as I can read all your media is not giveing any chances to us. So I tell you something. Hopefully well meet us in the next round and we'll send you home.

P.S. ITALIAN BOY: Boy, I don't know the guy very well. He is playing for Turkey. But if he is playing in Galatasaray he is not bad for shure.

Hey ZZ. I've nothing against Slovenia but this is my honest opinion. My head is saying the above but my heart is with Slovenia. It will be great for soccer if you succeed (give smaller countries hope for future). I will be shouting for Slovenia (except against Germany of course!)

The same from my side Gunter. This is just my opinion too. Just I must say your team is not playing very good football at the moment. But I must say I like Bundesliga a lot. Oh yes, there is played excelent football. I am a bit dissapointed I can not see live games, but I can see Ran Sat Fussball. And I realy like it.

Gunter, considering that you're probably the single member of WSB who believes Germany will win, it's a bit hard to believe your nationality hasn't clouded your judgment.

I mean, you believe Germany can qualify in first place, hey, that's not that hard to imagine. But to think that today's Germany will actually win...! I mean, there are like ten or fifteen national teams superior to Germany today, man. Cameroon is one, which doesn't mean that you can't beat them; but recognizing that they're currently a better team wouldn't hurt, would it? I mean, face it - even Spain would whup Germany's arses if the Cup were today!

Without any intention to be unpleasant - would you explain to me how Germany would achieve a World Cup victory? What would be the starting eleven, for instance? Who would be the strikers? What do you know about Germany that nobody else can see?

I'm genuinely curious.

`Sorry its taken me a few days to reply. Im actually going to the world cup !!!! I dont think that Ireland will win the WC, but I wouldnt rule them out of winning their group. Im not saying tha they will, its just I think that they are well capable. Draws against portugal and a victory against Holland. What have Germany, an even more miserable record then that of England, in a group with Finland, Albania and Greece!!!
I think that Gunter was smoking his funny cigerettes when he wrote about Germany winning the WC. they will be lucky to even get to the 2nd phase buddy!!:D Although they probobley will anyway!

I would love to see Slovenia do well. I think that France wont win it. I think that we migt get a shock this time. Argentina have always been my pick, but I have a feeling that there might be a changing of the guard...... Watch this space......:smoking:

Dam - I need another German in here to back me up! I think you are all blinded by that 5 -1 in Munich. Considering that the likes of Scholl and Jeremies didn't play against England and Finland, who will be fit in the summer well, the I think Germany cannot be underestimated. How would England have done against Germany if these two players are on board and England would miss say Beckham and Owen at the same time? That result was a once off.

Well, I actually found this amusing, pedro, but I disagree with it: Classic German football has always been a thing of clockwork precision and lack of imagination, yes, but to call it "kick the ball upfield repeatedly" might be a tad unfair to the great teams Germany has fielded in the past. Their present is, to use a mild word, uninspired, but their past deserves recognition, if not for its beauty - German soccer was never beautiful, au contraire - then for its outrageous efficiency.

Today, of course, they svck. Which brings me to...

Not actually, Gunter, I thought Germany's current generation was lousy before that whopping defeat.

Frankly, you're saying that Scholl and Jeremies carry as much weight as Beckham and Owen? Now, I consider both Brits overrated, but Scholl and Jeremies aren't gonna turn Germany into a quality team, sorry. Is their simple presence in the team going to turn it into a World-Cup-winner? I seriously doubt it. If you have some other insight into the German squad that I don't - something more convincing than Jeremies, like "we have three or four extremely talented offensive players who have never defended Germany and will be in the WC", then we might give you the benefit of the doubt and wait till next year before dismissing Germany. Otherwise...

And just to make it clear: Scholl and Jeremies aren't gonna turn Germany around, specifically because your NT lacks creativity and good forwards more than anything else. As long as you're fielding Jancker, Bierhoff and the likes, and Klinsmann & Effenberg have no respectable replacements, Germany won't arise from the slump you're currently in.

Just my opinion, of course. :)

Gunter

These are all opinons. I cannot wait for next June and everbody here will be eating their words about Germany. I will be demanding apoligies then. You are all obsessed with the 5-1 Englsih victory forgetting 1-0 to Germany at Wembley and 4-1 demolition versus the stylish Ukranians.

GO GERMANY!!!!!!!

Pedro
12-12-2001, 05:48 PM
Yes, I only intended it as an amusement, not a serious appraisal, of past OR present German football. (Though there is an element of the formulaic in the description AND in German methodology ;) )

Gunter,

Maybe we will have to apologize to you in June. However, it doesn't change the fact that no way, no how, are your predictions reasonable NOW.

I didn't put any stock in the game against England. That, would sort of be acknowledging that it was an achievement for England. I saw the game, and it was not. Truth is BOTH teams sucked and would have probably had trouble beating Canada. I'm not being cruel, those are just the facts.

i agree with you on one thing Drummer, that we might get another shock to who will win the world cup. becuase so many teams are doing well, its a toss up. i always thought that argentina has what it takes but i dunno why they didnt win the cup before. o well i quess. and man do i still envy you that you are going to the world cup. i hope that you have the time of your life there.

I never mentioned the 5-1 match, I think that you are a bit insecur or paranoid on that one. I have been on Engliush sites slagging them off, as they think that they can beat anybody now, but the facts are still te same. To struggle qualifying out of a group wit a bad england, Finland, Greece and Albania, is not the sign of a potential WC winner by any means. And to pin your hopes on two players getting their fitness back is also a sign of despair. World clasds teams can afford to miss one or two players and not get beaten, let alone thumped by an average side. England are very poor, so if Germany where to miss the same 2 again against Saudi, would the same thing happen, with the same excuse?? you are right that it was a once off, but Germanys performance in the group was very poor overall. When you cant beat Finland at home, especially when you need to most, you know that there is something wrong there. Maybe Germany will proove us all wrong, but they have done nothing in (at least) the last 2 years to suggest that they will go very far in japan.......
