It looks like Felipao will stay. Also it is very likely that Parreira will be called in to
be the techinical director , while the "lost" Antonio Lopes will be the techinical
supervisor.

Basically this means that Ricardo Teixiera does not want to burn Lopes (due to
politics, friendship etc...etc...etc.. so typical of Teixeira) and calling in Parreira to
give some assistance with Felipao. It will be to opposite personalities...one cool
and calm and expericend, and the other the explosion and passionate ways of
Felipao. It can work very well, specially considering thta Felipao has a
humungous admiration for Parreira, and that Parreira might convcince Felipao to
drop some of his "admired crappy players" such as MArcelinho Paraiba, Cris,
Eduardo Costa etc...etc.... and to add Kaka or a Djalminha to the squad. Plus
Parreira might convice Felipao to use the 442 that was used yesterday , instead
of Felipao's Italian version of teh 3-5-2, that has no attack whatsover.....also
Parreira will give more security for Felipao.
ALso about tactics, if you consider that 95% of teams will defend against us in
the cup....why pack a team with defenders? there is no logic in that!
Just to add, Parreira also may convicne Felipao of the importance of Romario in
deciding games.....however Luizao prooved once again (now for his doubters ,
cause the Sao Paulo public has no doubts) of his capability of scoring goals in
case Romario and Ronaldo are not available to play.

Next friendly should be against Poland in Warsaw, plus CBF is planning 2 more
friendlies in European soil, this opposition may depend on who we get on the WC
draw next month. I hope it is against Holland and England. However it doesnot
really matter.

Now the bad news is that we will only have 15 days for training the
team.....each World Cup it becomes less.....however in the World Cup we will
arrive very, very, very strong, and hopefuly with the team already bilt like in 94
and unlike in 98!

The penta won't be ours unless we improve by a suzeable percentage. Forget the 3-5-23 and get back to the 4-4-2. Now that the country can breathe a sigh of relief Big Phil might be able to relax and select a flourishing eleven.

I don't know, I kinda like the 3-5-2. Although Edmilson actually "floats" from the defense to midfield if needed, as the match vs. Venezuela demonstrated; Venezuela only had one striker, so we didn't need three defs tucked in; Edmlson moved upfield, marking Venezuela's most advanced midfielder, and effectively helping Emerson (Who played SUPERBLY!) in defensive midfield duties. In that formation, if the opposition changes by putting in a second striker, we can adapt without having to substitute, just by changing Edmilson's position.

I do still believe that Juninho Pernambucano (from Lyon) should be a starter, as he would add to the midfield's defensive security and keep the techincal level high; IMO, he would get in Juninho Paulista's spot, or Rivaldo's (am I the only one who's getting tired of Rivaldo's lame performances?).

And about bringing that trophy home - hey, we're natural candidates, but I'll wait patiently and see how our squad develops. We're qualified, there's no need to rush things anymore...
 ;)

What is Pele and the press saying about 3-5-2?
Isn't this against brazilian tradition? I think you always played 4-4-2.

I don't know what Pele thinks; the media generally distrusts this system for two reasons: Those who don't understand the system, and whose comprehension of overall tactics is limited to "add lots of attackers and you'll get an attacking team" (a moronic concept shared by many), feel that the mere presence of three central defenders is an outrage to the grand offensive tradition of Brazil, who should always be daring and blah blah blah. These people resent 4-4-2 as much as they resent the 3-5-2, as in 4-4-2 we use 2 defensive mids, which is also perceived as "an outrage" and "a betrayal of Brazil's attacking tradition". This kind of opinion doesn't help, as it's based in wishful thinking and nostalgia. If these analysts had it their way, we would field only one defensive mid, two playmakers and three strikers; which I'm sure our opponents would apprecciate GREATLY. ;) As Hector Cuper once said, "I like offensive football, but don't expect me to give the opposition any presents."

Then there are those who actually understand the attacking possibilities the 3-5-2 offers, and who analyze it in perspective of the various ways in which it's used around the world; in this case, the big discussion is wether we should use a formation with two defensive mids and one playmaker (the "Trequartista" of Italian soccer; this is, in fact, the preferred system of most Serie A clubs), or one defensive mid and two playmakers (as we played against Venezuela). Scolari initially tried the first, "Italian-flavored" system, with Emerson, Vampeta and Rivaldo as trequartista. Vampeta's poor performances compromised the effectiveness of this formation when it was used, so I don't think we should discard it as an option.

Considering how hard most teams defend themselves against Brazil, the 3-5-2 sounds very useful for us because it makes the wingers' job easier (our wingers being Cafu and Roberto Carlos, naturally). It's schoolyard-level tactics: the best way to open an excessively tight defense is through the wings. The 3-5-2 is, IMHO, perfectly suited to Brazil's need to open the desperately closed defenses we constantly face. Now, should we use two def-mids and a "Trequartista" or just one defensive mid (obviously Emerson) and two playmakers? Hey, beats me. Scolari is the one who gets paid to decide these things...
 :rolling:

I do prefer the 3-5-2. But hey, it's just my opinion.

Garrincha,
but at least in the first half (the only half i saw) againt venezeuela, we played 442. It is good that Edmilson does give this option. Plus Emerson gives this optin too....in my view Emerson is more of a defender than a defensive midfielder. He lacxks vision, and he lacks pace i his pass and his running.

Now this 352 of Felipao can't work with the players he is using. Rivaldo is lost no matter what system you put him, so for me his best position would be to warm up the bench. Vampeta's current form din't help...but then again Emerson football din't help either. If you have 3 defenders (not being all skilled and inteligent:Lucio, Juan and Edmilson) you really don't need a thug like Emerson (Amaral in my opinion would be more useful). Juninho Pernambucano , VAmpeta and Juninho Paulista wouldbe the most suited guys for this scheme. ANd up front Ronaldo and Edilson (IN THEORY, due to the needed movement) pratically i would put Ronaldo and Romario.

But my team would be 442, that is BRASIL! Why play 352 if teams will defend against us?? Some teams in the world cup will only play with 1 forward and that means that at least 1 of our players will be worthless (admitting one is marking man to man , while another is sweeping)

442 in the head Garrincha!!;)
