In my opinion, Italy are a very strong side, but could be better. They go so far, but not far enough (example Euro 2000). what do you think they need to do to be able to gain that extra step, to go further? i want your comments, thanks

i'll tell you what has to be done. trapattoni has to start utilizing more of his creative players more frequently at the same time on the pitch. what we're used to seeing is the azzurri playing with one creative midfielder while the other 2 centremids are usually 2 bone-heads like tacchinardi and di biagio. we also MUST throw a caution to the wind approach to defending. we've got to play with much more attacking spirit because winning the wc cannot be won playing catenaccio futbol. france ***ked us in 2000 and its time to wake up. we had the champs on the ropes but they ultimatly made us pay for not coming up with another goal.
nevertheless i am confident in trapattoni. my ideal choice would've been marcello lippi, but il trap always was a close second. he doesn't mind scoring goals and so far, the azzurri haven't been a team always dependant on the defensive coverage. we score. but imagine an ultra-attacking formation like this ...
toldo/buffon
cannavaro nesta maldini
zambrotta fiore totti coco
baggio del piero
vieri/montella
iuliano, materazzi, pessotto, gattuso, tomassi, tacchinardi, liverani, pirlo, signori.
we'd score as many goals as argentina and brazil with a team like this. makes you wonder why coaches would wanna play catenaccio in the first place.

there is nothing much really to do there, italy is already at their best with a great run in the euro 2000 n' the WC qualification.just their finishing must be improved, such as the game against france which they could easily killed them off by scoring the chances that were given.
