Felipe, left back of Vasco da Gama, had a brilliant performance in 1997 and 1998, then started to fall. He had great skills with the ball. He was able to dribble, to pass, to shot. In fact, Antonio Lopes, usually put him in the midfield when things were wrong to Vasco.

He played with Palmeiras and now I think is back to Vasco.

I want to know how it was his performance with Palmeiras. Was it good or bad? Did he have problems with the managers or the other players?

May we expect him to come back to his old form?

Bye

From what I've heard, he ISN'T back in Vasco: He's in litigation with Vasco, over image rights he claims weren't paid by the club; Vasco denies it all, and as punishment have simply put him in a "refrigerator". They don't want him in their team, and they refuse to loan him out again. They want to sell and get rid of him, but nobody in Brazil has the cash, as he's a good , young and expensive player. So he's not playing for anyone.

Funny, one would think that SOMEONE would be interested in a talented, national-team level young player. Some European team or something, y'know? But so far he's just sitting around at home. Weird, huh?

He should advertise in the 'papers or something.
:D

Oh, he was good in Palmeiras. He was used mostly as a left-wingback and sometimes as a second defensive mid, but always going forward, dribbling well and helping the team - actually more effective than Alex, who gets more media attention but lacks blood in his veins.

Of course, they weren't good enough to win the Libertadores final at home - and lost, for the second year straight, lost the trophy on penalties to the same Boca Juniors. I mean, this is the stuff that would give any supporter nightmares. :D So the Palmeiras board decided not to invest in Felipe's purchase after all; after all, he had those problems with Vasco, and Vasco's president Eurico Miranda is a well-known pain in the arse... :red-card:

So I don't know. Considering Vasco's current financial swamp (they're really in trouble, folks :D they owe Romario over U$ 4 millions, and that's not even counting the rest of the team) I think they would sell him if someone offered actual money. Brazilian clubs currently have very little of that...

Bad management. Actually "bad" is almost a compliment in the Brazilian clubs' case; their management is clueless, incompetent and absolutely unprofessional. In Brazil, most club presidents are non-professionals who don't know the first thing about soccer OR money management; so they spend their money loosely (like when a club is champion, sometimes its president decides to award the players a huge cash prize - which, it turns out later, COULDN'T be spent all at once in cash prizes, and leaves big budget holes) or simply make the money disappear in thin air (Flamengo's president currently is being subject of investigation by a congressional comitee that's tracking down corruption in soccer; apparently this president "misplaced" U$ 2 million dollars allegedly paid to Venezia for the yugo Petkovic's image rights, athough Venezia's management denies ANY image rights negotiations, and never received that money).

We're plagued by corrupt administrators on one side, and basically incompetent ones on the other. The challenge sometimes is to detemine who's a crook and who's simply stupid.  :D The federations are just as corrupt and incompetent, and in that quagmire we wallow constantly.

The sad part is, once you step IN the game field, the professionals are competent pros. Our physios are arguably the world's best (Barcelona and Inter have been sending players to get physiotherapy in Brazil - and their physios to learn) , due to our insane three-games-a-week calendar. Our youth coaches deliver new promising players on a weeekly basis. Our coaches may not be the world's best, but we have several world-class ones. And our players need no further praises from me. But once you pay attention to the clubs' management, the reason for our plight becomes apparent.

There are other reasons, involving social issues - there's an entire INDUSTRY of forged goods in Brazil, that undermines the sales of official club jerseys in favour of "pirate" jerseys at one-third the price, for instance. This situation devalues the clubs' financial deals with their shirt sponsors such as Nike and Adidas, as none of these companies is willing to pay as much as they pay European clubs when they know they will face the problem of "pirate" jerseys.

It's quite the mess over here, basically; and more complicated than this post would allow me to explain. But I hope you understand better HOW a club can sell a U$ 15 million-dollar player AND be almost bankrupt at the same time; it's the magic of Brazilian soccer!
  :rolling: :annoyed: :D

P.S. And we won 4 Cups with this kind of sloppy management, guys! Imagine what we could achieve if we were organized!

Latest news about Felipe: He was just hired by Atletico Mineiro, one of Brazil's best teams. Atletico currently has a strong team (With highlights such as National Team strikers Marques and Guilherme, world-class mids Ramon and Gilberto Silva, and goalie Velloso) with good chances of winning this year's league. But their leftback, Ronildo, got seriously injured last week, and is due to return only in February 2002. So they hired Felipe, who wasn't playing for anyone.

It remains to be seen if Felipe will be fit to help them in this year's league, but he's a good player who will add depth to their squad.

Garricnha,
yes i do think he will be fit......he needs rythm though. The guy is so brilliant that he will change any team....not that atletico need any changing as their midfield is quite good already/

italian boy,
well, the money normally does not go to the club, but to the club directors!:o

It's not tough to make the brazilian league great again, it's just organization, something that is unheard of in theminds of people like Caixa D'Agua, farah, Citadini, ricardo teixeira etc...

Jorge Felipe
Discovered by Galatasaray SK coach Fatih Terim, Jorge Felipe is a versatile Brazilian midfield player who had been delighting crowds at CR Vasco Da Gama in his homeland since 1996. He has exceptional vision and passing skills and, with those characteristics in mind, many have suggested that Terim believes Jorge Felipe could be the new Gheorghe Hagi. Born in 1977, the midfield player has plenty of time left to fulfil his considerable promise.

He's playing wonderful as an attacking midfieflder but Terim is still trying to use him as a defensive midfielder. And we bought him only for 3,5 million $
