Let us be confident and say that Brazil will qualify! IF their opening World Cup 2002 game was played today who would be your XI? I personally am not a big fan of the 3 central defender system. Let us hope that when Brazil does qualify that they can play with their hearts again and go for it. Your XI for the 2002 Copa please..............

If the World Cup was today, we would be in trouble, man. :dontcare: We still haven`t found all the right players, and some of the players still aren`t confortable in Scolari`s system. (I personally like the 3-defs system, it`s better for offensive play).

My eleven would be...

1- Rogerio Ceni

3- Juan
4- Lucio (untouchable)
5- Edmilson
(the one who made the "back three" work, with his midfield experience)

2- Cafu (Who Else?)
8- Emerson (the heart of the team, and the one who should wear the captain`s armband)
7- Juninho Pernambucano (This guy NEEDS to be a starter! He defends well and is a GREAT playmaker! Crowds should protest on the STREETS until Scolari wises up and hands Juninho his shirt! Am I the only one who thinks so?!?) Alternatively, we could try Zinho here, since he`s been playing so well.
10- Rivaldo
6- Roberto Carlos (I hear he`s going to operate and should be out for the rest of the year. If that`s right, and the WC was now, I`d go with Milan`s Serginho instead)

9- Well, Ronaldo would be called up if the WC was today, I think it`s a safe assumption - I don`t know if it would be wise, though. The current starter is Edilson, and I suppose he`s a good choice, if we don`t have R9. Elber would be another option, but Edilson would probably be the starter in a tournament that took place right now.
11- Marcelinho Paraiba, and Denilson would come in at halftime frequently. ;)

Is it too similar to Scolari`s current team? Yes, of course it is. It would be stupid to make up a completely new team right before a WC. But if there wasn`t any WC this year, or next year - if we had time, and could experiment (Which we can`t) - then we could try new guys, like Lopes, Marinho or Botafogo`s Rodrigo. But as it is, I say let`s keep the guys playing together - they don`have a chance of being champs if they don`t act like a team.

Well, my eleven would be:

1- Julio Cesar (Flamengo) or Dida

3- Juan
4- Lucio
5- Edmilson

2- Athirson or Roberto Carlos (yes, let´s try to improvise a better right back than Cafu)
8- Vampeta or Ricardinho (Corinthians) or Gilberto Silva (Atletico-MG)
7- Juninho Pernambucano
10- Rivaldo
6- Roberto Carlos or Athirson or Seginho
9- Ronaldo
11- Romário or Ronaldinho Gaucho

And, of course, Denilso as an option for the second half.

Having come up with the question I do not have a team myself yet! I would like to see Antonio Carlos (Zago to our Italian friends) become a fixture again. Everything crossed for Ronaldo's return - a thoroughbred if ever there was one. I personally do not think there is anything wrong with Cafu. He certainly does not lack for fitness. Belletti seems to have established himself as No2 No2! Lucio is looking the part. Is Emerson the outstanding player good judges think he is? I would like him to play with much more personality as the Brazilians say. The certainties for the team as I see it: Cafu, Lucio, Roberto Carlos, Emerson and Ronaldo (if you know what). I really do think the rest of the places are up for grabs.

Frankly, Vampeta isn't playing well enough to merit a call-up. If he is in fact called up (due to a need for sequence, and of building a group, that I completely understand) it would be insane to field him as a starter. I mean, you can't call up new players for every match, you have to have a basis so the players get to know each others' strenghts and weaknesses - but that's not enough reason to give a starter shirt to someone who's NOT playing well AT ALL! Same for Dida.

And don't even get me started on Athirson - What? He's not even playing right now! When he was playing, he wasn't doing well (If he WAS doing well in Italy, Juve would USE him, not put him on the transfer list, right?) . Why would he be called? Why not Parma's Junior, or that São Paulo leftback who went to Valencia (Whatsisname? Aurelio or something? He was a good player) ?

Athirson was NEVER the same dazzling leftback after his doping was found out. I don't think he deserves a NT call-up by any standards.

Corinthians' Ricardinho is a superb midfielder who would fit perfectly in the NT if he could be fielded as defensive mid - in which case he might get the shirt to play alongside Emerson.

Garrincha,
what do oyu see so much on Emerson???

I think he is so slow, can't get a pass correctly and i probably the main cause together with Rivaldo taht we are doing so bad..... the guy look slike a lamp post cause h simply can't run or create anytihing....al he can do is foul, foul and foul!:o

Anyway my team would be with this 352 of felipao :

1- Julio Cesar

3. Lucio
4 Juan
5 Edmilson

2- Cafu
15- Juninho Pernambucano
8 Vampeta
18 Juninho Paulista
6- Roberto Carlos

9- Ronaldo
11- ROMARIO (c)

subs for the squad:

Goalies:
12 Marcos
22 Dida

Defenders:

13 Antonio Carlos
16- Serginho

Midfield:

5- Emerson
14 Beto
10- Rivaldo
18- Djalminha

Forwards:
19- Luizao
20- Edilson
21 Denilson

I would be able to use Emerson as a defender (more useful) plus have many options for midfield. I would not take a right back, cause Beletti is not better than Vampeta or Juninho Pernambucano or even better than Beto to make that role. Plus the attack i take Luizao to beable to cmoe in if injury prone Romario and Ronaldo get injured!

I would very much like the sorcerer Djalminha given a go (once he returns to Deportino's team). It could be what we need in midfield: artistry. Fabio Aurelio is the player who went to Valencia (having played in the Olympics).

Well, when we choose the 11 to start, we take in account not only what they are playing now, but what they can play in the near future, otherwise we should NOT put Ronaldinho in the list, since we do not know how he will perform. That is the case of Athirson, Dida and Vampeta. We know they are not playing or playing well but we are confident that they are able to play very good. You know what "Barão Itararé" (think it is this name) said? From where you less expect is exactly from where you get nothing!! In portuguese is "de onde menos se espera, daí é que não sai nada mesmo". We can expect good things from Vampeta, Athirson and Dida, but not from Eduardo Costa and Cris!!!

Athirson is a special case, since we really do not know if his amazing performances were due to doping or not. Hope not.

I agree with Zé, Emerson is not good to be in the 11 starters, maybe not even among the 22. Try Gilberto Silva, Vampeta or Ricardinho is his place. Same with this Junior from Parma. Serginho and Roberto Carlos are better than him by far.

Bye

One question lads:

Until when will we see the aberration of Crs's and Marcelinho Paraiba's football in are glorious national team???

Also,
Ricardo Teixeira has to put a clause in Felipao's contract that he will TAKE Romario to the world cup, otherwise he is not going to be the manager!;)
