PSV has to continue the good form in order to still have at least a small chance of winning the title, Feyenoord has a difficult game against Utrecht and I wouldn't be surpised if Ajax would lose points for the second time this week against Willem II.
Anyone who would like to give a comment about it, has the chance to do so. ;)

PSV is climbing in the standings, Feyenoord performed great against an always tough opponent :D, Utrecht. Ajax also recovered well after being beaten 5-1 by Heerenveen earlier this week.

Well I hope so, Heerenveen showed this week that Ajax isn't invincable, Feyenoord today showed great form and let's hope they continue to play like this.
PSV is still threat to me, although I thought they were out of the title-race they've proved me wrong.
Last year Feyenoord was leading well heading into the second part of the season, and we know what happened, Feyenoord kept losing points whereas PSV was winning every game.
But for now I'm satisfied with Feyenoords performances. :D

DRULIC!
what you think, how big is the chance for NAC to end up within the top five in this years eredivisie?
Drulic
11-13-2001, 07:08 PM
Well they sure as hell have the potential to end up in the top 5, with the best keeper in the league Babos (Hungarian BTW :D ), Hersi one of the most promising Dutch talents at the moment, they have a good attacking duo with Salmon and Stewart.
They're playing great football at the moment, I'm impressed so far. And I hope they do surprise in the league cause at the moment they're a breath of fresh air.

dutch teams very weak!!oh just shut up!!there are lots of people who do appreciate our league, but they just don't come to this site, because there is only 1!!dutch message board.tell me ZEK how many dutch people have you seen on this site.that explains why this mb has so little posts.its not the dutch league, its your site!!!!
FEYENOORD!!!!!!
why're so angry Tottigirl
yep there're not many Dutch people around, so it's just a fact the forum is not active. But since we have you around hopefully the forum will be a bit more active ;)
of course Dutch football brings so many stars that Dutch league is interesting. I have a videotape with best goals from dutch league 80' and 90's collection i like them more than british league goals...
but about Dutch TEAMs they are weak honestly, I mean comparing to british and spanish teams.
was it feyenoord making fun over Lazio in CL ?
I like Ajax more may it sounds like my real name :p
seriously the last strong team from holland was that Ajax which won CL and played in finals.
I hope to see Ajax or Feyenoord playing well, I am missing Ajax in CL

I'm angry because there are always lots of people putting our league down, and not taking it serious. We have lots of worldclass players, in which many big clubs from italy/spain/england are interested.its just a money problem, we are just a small country we haven't got millions to spend on just 1 player, and the salary's of the players are also lower.thats why everyone leaves: money!!if you would watch more eredivisie then you would see how entertaining it is, there are lots of teams who play on the same level and who are all candidats for winning our league.and I know that internationally we are nothing, but there is the money problem again.
agree
the Dutch league is always respected and only stupid people could say they're not counting it. saying it's weak and not taking it seriously're two different things i guess.
as usual the money is the problem and will be a problem in the future too. I think sometime in couple of years the money will not mean that much cauz football is about spirit too just look what happens to Lazio or Milan or Barcelona, a lot of money but spirit is falling down. maybe then the Dutch teams would have more chances in europe.
i'm watching dutch league on eurosport the derbies are fine but losers games are disaster, and again comparing to the soccer I've seen here in sweden or in Russia or at home the dutch league is almost as strong as calcio;)

I think Ajax will win again this season. they really impressed me at the A'dam tournament. van der Vaart rules!! and Chivu he's great too. Koeman's just a world class coach to have cleaned up Adriannse's mess so quickly!

the dutch league is the weakest in the world. they hve a few big name players and thats it. the team names suck and the coaches are moronic. dutch league is just a minor-league nobody. all their players are imported and their best players are sick of playing in secondrate stadiums with secondrate uniform for secondrate fans, so they go abroad

I think that the Holland league is simpatic, have great stadiums, nice supporters and an offensive soccer.I like it!

09-13-2002, 11:30 AM
I couldn`t agree more!
We play offensive and always for the three points.
(Except Den Bosch last year) Our stadiums aren`t the biggest but look nice.
The homegrounds of teams like Ajax, Vitesse, PSV, Heerenveen and ofcourse Feyenoord all have something special.
De Kuip is the nicest one, I`m sad to say. (Ajax fan)
I`m not sure if I agree on the great supporters.
National team suporters are ok, but some club supporters are ruining football for everyone.
Haven`t you heard of the problems with fans in Holland??
But overall for such a small country its a good league, with several very good players.

The Dutch League is a great league, its not full of 100.000 capacity stadiums, World Class players, or even $$$ spending clubs but it has the best youth systems in the world, and a great tradition with its clubs. Some while ago in early to mid 90's the Dutch league was one of the best but the stars moved on to other clubs, but still more youngsters are developing in the Youth systems.
BTW, I consider the Dutch League one of the funnest to watch with its great offensve futbol ;)

If so, I agree, but it seems to me no one else around here does.

Everybody here seems to care more for the Italian, Spanish and East European leagues.

Most friends I have (which aren`t to many, but they are good friends. :)) don`t like soccer. They who do don`t like discussing it on the internet, but just at home. I did visit some Dutch forums but it sucked. I`m not interested in discussing it with Dutch people, because most of those people are very fanatic for the team they support. A lot of foul language and swearing, its hard to discuss something with those people. Because I like discussing the Spanish, English and Italian leagues. Ah well, soon the CL starts and then there will be enough to discuss. With a bit of luck a Dutch team wins it :) and then we might become interesting again. Maybe we are in luck and will some people join this forum who like Dutch football.
Which teams do you support, which Dutch team? AZ? (nick)
Do you know who started this forum? There is a strange balance in supporters for different leagues here. A lot of Italian league supporters and more unknown leagues. (Eastern Europe)
And the best thing here is that there are supporters of a lot of different teams, and people treat each other with respect and dignity. (Sounds like the closing statement of a Jerry Springer show. :)
Besides, the fact is I already know how my friends think of football, so why discuss it? I don`t have many friends who are really fond of football, to discus it with.

Yes I am Dutch and live in Holland, I support two Dutch teams, Ajax and Vitesse. I have to say that Ajax is far more important than Vitesse. I visited some Ajax matches, but is expensive and hard to reach if you live too far from Amsterdam. I had a season ticket for Vitesse for three years. Got into a lot of trouble because when they played Ajax I cheered for them. Other supporters didn`t like that.
Outside Holland these teams:
In Spain Barca (Quite obvious, it is (or was) Ajax 2, with all due respect ofcourse. :) )
I also follow Deportivo la Coruna in Spain.
In Italy I support no specific teams.
In England I support Arsenal. (Bergkamp)
I follow every other team, I don`t have anything against any team, like them all.
In Germany I support Schalke`04 and Hertha (Stevens)
I follow a few teams also. (Bayern Munchen, Leverkusen, Bor Dortmund HSV)
In Scotland Celtic (screw Glasgow`s Dutch colony, except De Boer.) They have a great trainer in O`Neill, even though they are in a dip right now.
National teams: Holland and Ireland (especially without Keane, great supporters.) Ofcourse I follow all big national teams.
So how about you?

I am from Azerbaijan (former USSR)and live in the USA, and i'm a huge fan of Dutch soccer.
From Holland i support Ajax
England: Arsenal, Chelsea, and Fulham (Van der sar)
Spain: Barcelona and Deportivo
Italy: Inter
Germany: Schalke and Dortmund
Scotland : Rangers
Holland is my favorite national team only after Azerbaijan is Holland, and then Brazil and Spain, and my favorite player is Patrick Kluivert.
Some day I would like to visit Holland.

Hard too say. Costs vary a lot, depending on the matches played. Perhaps the official Ajax site can give you an answer or maybe the Ajax USA page (Maybe I don`t know to be honest.)
Are you asking this for a reason? Are you coming too Holland and want to visit a match?
I also think for most matches you will need a clubcard.
Its all so difficult here....

09/24/2002. PSV Eindhoven boss Guus Hiddink has revealed that he has received death threats since returning to Holland after his exploits at the World Cup with South Korea.
The former Dutch coach received an anonymous letter containing two bullets, forcing him to briefly contemplate quitting the game.
He told the Evening Standard: "The message was along the lines of, if you have the same success in the league with PSV as you did with Korea, we'll kill you with one bullet. Or if you succeed in the Champions League, we'll kill you with the other.

Boring? The Dutch League is a lot of things, but boring?
Youy are right, I watch all the Budesliga live matches on RTL5 and I never saw a boring one. Nothing is more exciting than a nice Bundesliga match like Hannover 96 against Bochum.

Bergkamp is great, no doubt about it. I taped his goal against Newcastle United, unbelievable, one of the best goals ever. Amazing that a lot of the most beautiful goals are made by Dutch players.
Van Basten twice. Against Russia in the EC `88. (EK`88) and his goal against Den Bosch, you know, the Bicycle kick.
Bergkamp goal against Newcastle fits right in. :)

THE HAGUE — Dutch football clubs will no longer be allowed to co-operatively sell the broadcast rights of their matches starting from next season, the Dutch competition watchdog, NMa, ruled on Tuesday.
Presently Canal+ broadcasts football matches live after buying the rights from both clubs. The broadcast rights are sold via Eredivisie NV, the Dutch premier soccer division.
But the NMa ruled that consumers were put at a disadvantage because the pay-TV broadcaster was the sole supplier of the televised matches.
Furthermore, Canal+ only broadcast 44 of the 306 matches that it bought and that primarily matches involving top clubs Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV were being broadcast.
The NMA said every club individually owns the broadcast rights of their home matches and the individual sale of the rights will result in more matches being broadcast on TV and less attention for the top clubs.
© 2002 Novum Nieuws
Sounds like good news too me, as long as a non pay-TV broadcaster will buy the Ajax rights. Important this for Dutch football. Could be bad for some teams. Who in their right mind would want to buy the rights of clubs like RBC and
De Graafschap? (:()

Vitesse agreed too let him goo too ease the wagebill after the signing of Van Halst. Vitesse is still financial insecure and have too cut expenses where possible. Six players of FC Utrecht under whom Harald Wapenaar, Arco Jochemsen and Igor Gluscevic will all leave Utrecht because their contracts won`t be extended.
For Wapenaar and Gluscevic it is a letdown since Utrecht really wanted too keep them. The others were more or less destined too leave anyway.
I see a good opportunity for Vitesse here, they need a quality striker and Gluscevic for free could be a good move.

They won indeed, and like the matches against NAC and Heerenveen earlier, they won without convincing, with two ties coming up against Vitesse away and Ajax at home (Eindhoven) they will need too higher up their level, too keep their 7 point lead.
Kezman BTW is suspended for the match against Vitesse in Arnhem.
But credit where credit is due, if they are in form, they are a formidable team, mostly because of the reason they can keep hold of their top players due too lack of money with the top league top clubs.
Hofland, Van Bommel, Kezman and perhaps even Vogel are all ready for higher level.
VivaBarcaInter

IMO there are several guys at all of the big three that could make an impact at places like Spain and Italy.
PSV haven't been too impressive recently, but the lead has still remained large. Winning leagues is all about consistency rather than flair, and believe me as an Inter fan I know all about that!!! PSV have a decent record against Ajax, and looking as those two fixtures, I would be happy with 2 draws or one win. Perhaps it's my pessimistic nature, but I think of large point leads as giving yourself breathing room!

Yes is true, but I meant these players, especially Kezman, vogel and Van Bommel, were on the level of bigger leagues already a few years ago but because of the market couldn`t go. They are already experienced and were ready.
Ajax is different, sure VDV and Chivu could easily make the step up, but they are still very young, so it is more normal they still play with Ajax, they didn`t reach their top, but Van Bommel is on his top now and still playing with PSV.

:D:D
I know, I also stated that earlier, it is a sign of a team in league winning shape, but they aren`t there yet for sure, with this level of play they can`t beat Ajax, and there are still 11/12 matches too go. But they are clearly ahead. For Ajax at this moment it is all about CL and CL qualification for next year, only the numbers 1 and 2 (Qualifying round first) go too CL. So the 2nd place is currently goal for Ajax. But Feyenoord is in good form and breathing down our neck, combined with CL we will get a hard time reaching the 2nd spot, even though wee have a lot of debt in our team, except the striker position. Will be exciting.

I think the same, isn`t pessimistic, it is comforting. :)
Well Ajax won`t settle for a draw witrh Feyenoord breathing down our necks, so it will be a good match I think.

Vitesse coach Mike Snoei is put on non aztive. With Vitesse he holds the 15th place in the league, 3 points clear of direct degredation. For a team with I think the 4th or 5th biggest estimate that is simply bad. Even though the money is gone and all, with the squad Vitesse has 15th is laughable.
Now probably Edward Sturing will take over and Mike Snoei will be tried too keep in the club as youth coach.

ok so after Ajax's 2-1 win at Twente Enschede, and PSV's home win, the latter are 3 points clear with a better goal difference.
What are the rules on equal goal difference and points in the eredivisie, should the scenario witness an Ajax win with the appropriate # of goals, and a PSV loss?

I`m not completely sure, I think that goals scored for way heavier than goals gotten against. So 80-30 should be better than 70-20.
I don`t think it goes on matches between the teams tied on top. No play off match either I think.
Doesn`tm atter much all, no way PSV with such a team will blow it at FC Groningen. Ajax should just concentrate on a nice match against Heerenven, and if the miracle does happen, just celebrate that after. :)
We will BTW say goodbye to Ajax legend Richard Witschge, he didn`t get a new contract. :( I`m a big fan of him and wished he would stay longer, but he will go to another team and finish his career elsewhere. He is good enuogh for Ajax only Ajax is looking to bring back squad size.

Sneijder sent off after only 13 minutes in this unexpected defeat.Ajax isn't playing well since their home defeat against PSV,and they played very bad in the midweek UEFA Cup tie against Sparta Prague, where another Ajax player(Emanuelson)was sent off.The club is now 6 points behind Eindhoven, and it will be very difficult to catch them in the championship race.

Anyways, we don't need luck to win against Ronald Koeman's team, he used to be coach of Ajax and screws it up himself, always does, so I just watch back and enjoy the show

Out of Interest Langbaard can you explain how the lower leagues work? I was playing a Dutch team in Football Manager 2007 (RBC) and could never get my head round the way the league worked. There were different stages and loads of playoff positions and I never quite understood it. What are these stages all about?
Langbaard
04-02-2007, 01:46 PM
Ah yes, it's quite an interesting system, I'll try my best to explain.
To take the club you took as an example, RBC is playing in the 1st division in Holland ( the Championship in England ).
There are 20 teams in total who play in this league, all play each other 2 times like normal fixtures in a league.
The difference here is, after 5/6 games they will make out a period champion, so if RBC would be in a 10th position in the league, but win 6 out of their next 6 games they would be crowned champions for these last weeks.
There are like 5 or 6 period champions throughout the whole season, all 6 of these teams will be put together in a complete new league at the end of the season, along with the 3 last team of the Dutch Eredivisie ( EPL in England ).
This to see which teams will promote, which will relegate, or which teams will stay the same.
So there would be say 8 to 10 teams, those would be divided in two groups where they play each other again 2 times, the top 2 of each group will face each other in a KO stage, the 2 winners would get promotion to the Dutch Eredivisie, while the other either stay or relegate to the 1st division.
The real champion of the 1st division will automaticly promote to the Eredivise, as will the bottom team of the Eredivisie relegate instantly to the 1st division without participating both in the 'after-season'.
So even if you'd finish 11 in the league, if you had a good period and finished 'period champion', you could still make chance to promote to the Eredivise.

:jaw: How complicated  My headaches just trying to work it out but it does make life interesting a I guess. I can just imagine the English Championship doing that  I took over RBC in FM2007 and within a couple of weeks of game time I was so confused I just put the team on permanent manager holiday

It's an interesting system, but quite honestly not that useful, just taking the top 4/5 of the league into the 'after-season' would work just as well and it would reward those who get good results consistently throughout the season.
Just like in the Eredivise they implented the play-off system at the end of the year which is another bullshit system they implented for god knows what reason.
Pretty much all the managers didn't understand the choice of the Dutch Football associaton why they would do such a thing.
If you want a full detail about the Eredivisie play-off system just look in the Dutch football forum section for some more cover in a thread I started.
But like I said before, I think these systems are a waste of time, just let the teams play even more games, debatable if it all went rightfull who got a ticket to the 'pre-season' or in the Eredivisie even for CL, UEFA tickets it's nearly just as useless in my opinion, considering a few factors.
Imagine Tottenham getting CL ticket last year instead of Arsenal, Arsenal finished 4th barely and Tottenham 5th.
But because Tottenham had a better 'period' they would get CL instead of Arsenal according to this system ( it is a situation that could very well happen ).
Why the complication, the discussion if it's rightful or not and all the other factors just so they can implent such a system ?

Without a doubt Da Realest, big Spanish or English club will pick him up next year as he's simply been amazing, great player and truly the revelation of the season.
Other than some rumors I know PSV and Ajax are interested in signing him, although Heerenveen wants 20 million, while they won't go further than 15.
Which is always the same story, if Alves would have been a Dutchman his price would be 25 probably.
Anyways, great player and I am a fan of his abillities/skills.

Quite honestly though, I'd like to see him come to Ajax :D
We're willing to offer 15 million so far, where Heerenveen doesn't want to go lower than 20.
Either way, we have great strikers up front, but another goal scoring machine like Alves would be great. With our current team along with him I can see us going far in the CL next year guaranteed.
He's battling with Kanoute in the 1st and 2nd place for the European Golden Boot this year, so he'll probably will have the attention of some big clubs this summer.
Yeah I'd like to see him perform at Brazil too, but the competition is extremely hard over there ofcourse so perhaps in the mere future.
What's your opinion about Kennedy Bakircioglu?

Very good player, has really impressed me. I remember last year he had some good games and I thought he was good signing, but this year he has been even better.
That's also thanks to FC Twente's amazing performances this season, who have a side worthy of competing for the title, although Kennedy has played a good part to realise that ofcourse.
He'll probably play at FC Twente next year again, although Feyenoord are hurting for more help and could be interested. Haven't heard any other speculations so far.

I've heard that Galatasaray has shown interest in signing Kennedy. I personally think he will stay one more season in Twente before he goes abroad or to a bigger club in Holland.
He has impressed me aswell..i think he should get some chances in the Swedish NT..he has been picked for the NT squad at several occations but haven't got the chance yet to prove his worth.
Just read the Swedish newspaper and according to them Valencia has shown interest in signing Afonso Alves.

Last matchday of the Dutch Eredivisie April 29:
-FC Groningen - FC Utrecht
-FC Twente - NAC Breda
-SC Heerenveen - Feyenoord
-NEC Nijmegen - ADO Den Haag
-PSV Eindhoven - Vitesse Arnhem
-Roda JC - Heracles Almelo
-Sparta Rotterdam - RKC Waalwijk
-Willem II - Ajax Amsterdam
-Excelsior - AZ Alkmaar
While AZ, Ajax and PSV all three will have to win in order to keep their last chances of winning the title alive.
Meanwhile Heerenveen will face Feyenoord to determine which team will join the top 5 teams for the play-off phase. Although if both teams draw and Roda JC manages to win, we could even see them in the play-offs.
It looks AZ will become champion with a relative easy opponent Excelsior, although the game is away and both Ajax and PSV have spilled valueble points in matches against Excelsior.
Ajax will need a monster score in order to keep things in their own hand, but if they become champion AZ will have to make a big slip-up.
PSV had it all in their own hands and are now dependent on both Ajax and AZ to still see them off as Dutch champions.
The nr 1, 2 and 3 all at 72 points and just one very exciting match day left to play to crown the new Dutch champions.

PSV Eindhoven won the Dutch league for the 20th time in history, PSV who beat Vitesse on their last day 5 - 1 ended with the same points as Ajax, but scored just a simple ( bloody damn ) goal more than Ajax who won against Willem II 2 - 0.
1. PSV - 75
2. Ajax - 75
3. AZ - 72
4. Twente - 66
5. Heerenveen - 55
PSV is guaranteed for a place in the Champion's League next year, while 2,3,4 and 5 battle it out for the last CL ticket.
Play-off matches:
Heerenveen (5) - Ajax(2)
Ajax (2) - Heerenveen (5)
AZ ( 3) - FC Twente ( 4 )
FC Twente (4) - AZ (3)
The teams will play each other home and away, after the game both victors will face each other to determine who will represent The Netherlands in the Champion's League next to PSV Eindhoven.
To the rest who lose, they will have a ticket for the UEFA Cup.
Ironicly enough, Feyenoord ended 7th place this year and will focus on getting an UEFA Cup ticket in the play-offs, which ofcourse can go all ways.
I'll post a more extensive statistics for the last match day and upcoming fixtures.

Tilburg - Alkmaar
Over 2,5, @1,67, Expekt, 3/10
Tilburg is solid at home, is overish at home and actually seems to be in good ofensive form as they won 4-0 at home against Arnheim last round. On the other hand Alkmaar looks not good right now. They are conceeding too much. They are overish at away even generally. They conceeded 6 goals at Ajax and 4 goals at Heerenveen recently. In last round they lost 1-2 at home with Breda. Not only that they have problems in defence but there is even problem with their moral. In this situation is very probable that Tilburg will score. On the other hand Alkmaar has big ofensive potential and will score very probably too. All in all over 2,5 is close in this match. But because odds represent this fact good, there is only small value in them and I have to recommend only low stakes. Good luck:)
Louis Van Gaal is back on its steps, announcing that he wants to stay on the bench of AZ Alkmaar until 2010, expiration date of his engagement with the Dutch.
Damn that means Galatasaray will not have him as a coach next season!!
