Damian Mori scored twice as Perth Glory continued the Wollongong Wolves' miserable start to the National Soccer League season with a 2-0 victory at WIN Stadium.

Mori, the top scorer in NSL history, blasted Perth ahead on 36 minutes with a brilliant curling shot.

He wrapped up the Glory's 2-0 victory with a neat header two minutes from fulltime a pinpoint Bobby Despotovski cross.

The Wolves, champions for the past two seasons, have just one point and only one goal from three games.

They have yet to score in general play with their only goal coming from a penalty in last week's 3-1 loss to Parramatta.

With four key players quitting the club at the end of last season, including former captain and Perth recruit Matt Horsley, they are clearly struggling.

Wolves defender Ben Blake said it was taking time for the new players to settle into the team.

"We were a lot better than our second half last week but we still have a lot to do," Blake said after the match.

"Clearly we need to create more chances and do better in front of goal."

On 17 minutes Perth almost took the lead when defender Craig Deans had his goal-bound glancing header cleared off the line by Wolves debutant Darren McDonald.

Wolves' striker Stuart Young should have given his team the lead on 22 minutes but spooned his shot over the crossbar with only Perth goalkeeper Jason Petkovic to beat.

It proved Wollongong's most clear cut chance of the match and Young's miss was punished by Mori's excellent strike late in the half.

Mori proved a handful for the Wollongong defence and though the homeside had more possession and some pressure in the second half they created few clear opportunities.

In a game dominated by defence, Perth's Deans and Shane Pryce were outstanding while Blake and McDonald stood out for a disappointing Wollongong.

Round up of all games:

Damian Mori and the Perth Glory continue to lead the way in the National Soccer League after the club took sole possession of top spot on the ladder thanks to an impressive 2-0 victory over the hapless Wollongong Wolves at WIN Stadium.

Former Socceroos striker, Mori continued the defending champions’ abysmal start to the season with goals in the 36th and 88th minute.

The win also ensured that Perth are the only club still with a 100% record after three games.

The Wolves, champions for the past two seasons, have just one point and only one goal from three games.

They have yet to score in general play with their only goal coming from a penalty in last week's 3-1 loss to Parramatta.

Joint-competition leaders with the Glory before round three, Newcastle will be happy to maintain its unbeaten start to the season after a resolute performance earned them a 0-0 draw at home to Parramatta.

Power coach David Mitchell will certainly be disappointed at not securing maximum points after his gamble of using a three-pronged attack forced Newcastle onto the back foot for much of the match at Marathon Stadium.

Parramatta had several quality chances denied in the second half by a scrambling defence.

In the final match completed Friday night, the Northern Spirit twice came from behind to earn an entertaining 2-2 draw with Adelaide City at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Striker Pablo Cardozo notched his 98th national league career goal just after halftime to preserve the Spirit's unbeaten start to the season.

Adelaide City had powered to a 2-1 halftime lead with opportunistic goals from teenagers Scott Tunbridge and Iain Fyfe while Robbie Enes grabbed the Spirit's first with a spectacular solo effort in the 31st minute.

I was so pissed. They were supposed to show Wollongong-Perth but at the last minute they changed to that shitty game which ended in a dull 0-0 draw.

We cannot get C7 in Perth. I was talking about the Channel 7 the free to air station. C7 (the pay tv channel) shows a live game of course but Channel 7 then shows a replay of it at 11:30pm. I hope you're not confused by this...

Marconi has won a thriller against the unlucky Football Kingz at Marconi Stadium, the Stallions netting twice in injury time to win the match 5-3.

The Stallions came out firing from the first whistle having failed to score in their first two games of the season, with Royce Brownlie just missing a scoring chance early in the game.

Norman Tome did the same with an open goal, before making up for it with a header on 23 minutes from an almost identical position, and Brownlie likewise atoned for his miss with Marconi’s second three minutes later.

Nine minutes after half-time Mark Burton missed from two metres out, but teammate Paul Urlovic wasn’t so wasteful from a similar position in the 67th minute, but Marconi went 3-1 clear just five minutes later through Shane Webb.

Levent Osman ensured the Kingz remained in the hunt in the 75th minute, and three minutes before fulltime scores were level when John Markovski made no mistake from the penalty spot.

But just when it seemed the Kingz were destined to claim a point, Marconi brought on two subs in injury time, and the move paid dividends with Sasa Radulovic and Kevo Gulesserian putting the finishing touches on a stunning match.

"We haven't got the brains or the maturity of other sides, but in a lot of areas I was happy tonight," Stallions coach Lee Sterrey said. "We pulled ourselves out of the crap. We didn't look to lock it up at all."

"As a group we have to learn to win. I just sense we don't know how to do it," losing Kingz coach Mike Petersen said.

The Melbourne Knights have won their first game of the season with a gutsy 1-0 away win over the Olympic Sharks at Toyota Park in Sydney, goalkeeper Martin John the hero.

The Knights scored the game’s only goal in the 57th minute, Alex Kiratzoglou gleefully putting away the rebound from captain/coach Andrew Marth’s free kick after defender Andrew Durante had needlessly pulling down a Melbourne player led to the kick.

The Sharks went into the game without Greg Owens and Wayne Srhoj, but had chances for the equaliser through Dylan MacAllister, Nick Carle and Paul Kohler, only to be denied on each occasion by the efforts of John.

In the first half Olympic had much of the play, John preventing Troy Halpin’s shot in the opening minutes, but it was in the 29th minute when he produced the save of the match from a fiercely driven corner from former Knight Tom Pondeljak.

John just got fingertips to the ball and managed to tip the ball over the crossbar.

"I think everyone looked a bit flat and we were a bit rusty with our passing. But having said that, we did enough to win the game and perhaps we need to be a little bit more desperate in the box,” Sharks coach Gary Phillips said.

"But everyone has to go through the bye and maybe it's a good thing that we had an early loss so we know where we're at."
