On the 30th June 2009 an era will finish for Milan: at the age of 41 years and 4 days Paolo Maldini shall retire. Therefore, the team has to find a new leader - there are big chances it will be Rino Gattuso - but Milan should also re-think the technical aspect of their organisation. Therefore, reinforcements seem to be in order, especially for the midfield and the defence. The most probable candidates seem to be Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid who would cost 120 millions Euros for the Italian club but who apparently would not be particularly unhappy to leave the Spain, and Cesc Fabregas, leader of Arsenal, who has not yet been able to show his qualities entirely on the international level.

I think it should be Pirlo being captain, he is a deeply passionate member of the team.

Pirlo would probably be a good choice.

And why on earth would we pay for a guy not proven... and a guy who gets more red cards than anyone else I've seen... Ramos is ridiculous. There are better players out there. Far better.

Santacroce for one.

But who would take over Maldini's place? Hopefully Nesta if he gets back to his feet! And Thiago Silva to play alongside Nesta!

As much as I don't like Ramos personality-wise, I'd have to agree that he's one of the best young players out there.

Maybe two seasons ago. But he's been utter rubbish. The guy has no positional sense... he goes forward far too much and forgets his defensive duties. I can name several players better than him.

He's good as a right back, but he can't perform for crap as a centerback.

And young doesn't always mean best.

Either way, Chiellini and Santacroce are far better than he is at CB.

U named his disadvantages...but what about advantages??? He's pretty much universal called player...he can play as CB, RB and LB, RMF...name someone who can be that unique ...I personally call him one of the best...every person has his own opinion

can not agree about the red cards of Ramos...this season in La Liga only 2...that's normal for a player on his position

LOL! Bonera can be called a universal player since he can play right back, left back and centerback. But he's rubbish as left back and right back, and decent as centerback.

Not that I'm comparing. I think Ramos is better than Bonera by a mile. But, Ramos is good on the flanks, and certainly not as a centerback. Our flanks are covered. Ramos however is utter crap as a centerback and anyone who has seen that in the last season can tell you that. If he is the best you have, if I were you I'd be demanding better centerbacks. His positional sense is sometimes terrible, and he's been burned numerous times by top quality players. I can't imagine the kid playing against Giovinco or Ibrahimovic. Good god no.

Ramos is awful when it comes to a centerback. He's not Paolo Maldini. Paolo Maldini was one of the best at both left back and centerback (though he took up centerback mostly towards the end of his career).

Ramos is not worth 120 million.

Antonini is a good Milan youth project.

Whomever mentioned Santon as an option need to understand that he was developed by Inter and will never make the switch over to Milan, just like Maldini would never make the switch over to Inter. Inter may have developed the next Maldini btw...

Hakan Balta is awesome, and massively underrated. One of the most consistent players around, one hell of a left-back, plus he can play as centre-back if he needs to. He's so underrated that Milan probably doesn't know if he exists
