This is this rounds, match to watch encounter. Looks to be a very promising game. Both teams need the points and it will hopefully be nothing short of a classic.

Sweden 1-1 Portugal
Pheew this game will be intense. I wonder if we will use our new system 3-5-2 against Portugal or might Lagerbäck choose his safe tactics and go for counters 4-4-2? The questions are many before this vital battle..
I hope we can get back Linderoth, Elmander, Svensson and Wilhelmsson in shape after their respective injuries.
Ibra needs to dominate this game in the attack if we should have a chance. Old-man Larsson or should I say the immortal Larsson was fantastic against Hungary. If these two have a good day against Portugal we might celebrate a glorious victory..
We play at home and are used to the cold weather in october. We have a nice record at Råsunda. We won against Spain at home in the last qualifiers with 2-0, I'm hoping for a repeat against Portugal but I know that it will very tough since I realize that Portugal has the better players.
This matchup has everything.

Like everyone says this game will be an instant classic IMO. Should be very exciting, two teams who both desperately want the points and both will do all they can to win. I'm pulling for Sweden to win, but I think Portugal takes this one though.

Sweden shouldn't draw in Stockholm and if Ronaldo is out by then! If they do, Sweden won't take 1st for sure.
Portugal is far more technical then us as a team so we need to fight them down with our strenght and be aggresive as hell and go for quick counter-attacks and literally hand over the ball to our magician Ibra as much as we can during the game.
I'd like to see this formation against Portugal (4-4-2) Diamond.
Isaksson, PSV Eindhoven
-----------------------
Stoor, Fulham
Majstorovic, AEK Athens
Mellberg, Juventus
Nilsson, Panathinaikos
-----------------------
Linderoth, Galatasaray
Wilhelmsson, Al Hilal
Källström, Lyon
Elmander, Bolton
---------------------
Ibrahimovic, Inter
H.Larsson, Helsingborgs IF
---
4-4-2 is the formation that has taken us to 5 straight championships since Euro 2000 and I believe that we have to play this formation against Portugal if we should stand a chance. I really like the idea with 3-5-2 but at this moment I'm not sure if the players are comfortable with it, it needs much more time to play a new system. I say play the 3-5-2 formation against 'weaker' nations and go with 4-4-2 against better at this point.

I think it will end 2-1 Sweden.

Anything could happen, I am getting sick of Portugal during the Euro they just played like some drama queens, too bad Sweden couldn't tie/beat russia I was going for Sweden! Anyway I think Sweden should finish 1st and Portugal/Denmark 2nd.
We deffenetly need to win this match or at least don't lose.
It'll be a tough match but i say Portugal will win 2-1 or tie 1-1.

2:1 for Sweden or 2:2 draw.
Our new talents Marcus Berg and Andreas Granqvist scored 2 beautiful goals tonight against Utrecht in the Dutch League.
Granqvist who's a Central Defender (!) made a Maradona(You gotta watch it). Berg's goal was nice as well.. :)

I'm not one to cut the NT short but for this match, it feels like they have everything working against them. Cristiano will be back and most importantly, Portugal lost at home against Denmark.
Sweden will face a Portugal where the General has returned, a team that is desperate for points. I have tickets for the match and I hope to celebrate at the club after the game. However I feel like I might drink for all the wrong reasons :(
On the positive side, I said the same thing when Sweden had a huge injury list in the home game against Spain and they won that 2-0 and I rate Spain higher than Portugal so anything can happen. I give a slight edge to Portugal..because of the damned danes!!
And Quaresma shall return to the team as well, now that he's playing in Inter.

3-3 in a fantastic game.
Bad news for Portugal. Deco and Ricardo Carvalho are injured and may not be available for this game :(

Portugal by 2 is just stupid.
I would bet Sweden won if it wasn't for the latest debacle in Lissabon. It will be a close match with an edge to the Portugese. I hold Portugal as a favorite in this match because they really can't afford to lose after losing a home-game but should Sweden win it by 2 goals, it will not be a surprise to anyone but perhaps yourself. But then, you are English and get surprised every single time Sweden beat or draw with England, as they have been doing consistently for a few decades now.

They're both good teams, it can go both ways. Besides that, Sweden is playing at home and Portugal is in a transitional moment...new manager, new players and some injuries
It wouldn't be a big surprise to me if Sweden win this game by 1 or 2. Although i believe we can win this one.

In my humble opinion, I don't think Portugal is in a transitional moment. You were in a transistion to greatness. Prior to these groups being drawn, I have said that Portugal has the best future stars of ALL European teams. The problem (for us) is that some of these future starts have developed into great players already. Nani, Quaresma, Ronaldo, Pepe, etc., it's a team packed with stars.
I am hoping for Sweden, we have the best qualifying record in Europe but facing Portugal..that is desperate for points, very tough. I am hoping for 3 points and I wouldn't be surprised if Sweden does win. Well time will tell.
I guess I agree with you, it can go either way.

Man we Have now 4 important and world class players out for the swedish game with injuries. Carvalho, Deco, Maniche and Simao are all out with injuries and will miss the game with Sweden. That stinks!!. I sure hope the replacements Play well.
Portugal will win easy
C Ronaldo is back and lets not forget the Quieros know how to use him
rather then Scolari, Carlos has been talking that he will play Ronaldo in the middle rather then on the wings which could prove dangerous for the Swedish defence

We could do well without Maniche, Simao and R. Carvalho, but without Deco...hmmm...I see bad things coming. He's the "head" of the team.

Well I think all those players can and have played a important role on the team of past and present. Deco is not only a brilliant player but like you mentioned his leadership in immense on the team, I think he filled that roll after Figo retired, and without question Figo was the heart and soul of the Portuguese squad for many years. A true leader in every sense of the word. Deco brings some of that leadership into play and will be missed. I do Not Know for sure who will be replacing the injured players perhaps you know? Portugal really needs to step up and play their game, If they can do that they can claim a victory in Sweden.
match to watch turned out to be a dud match after all
scoreless matches are so not fun...

Yeah didnt turn out the way it expected. I didnt see the game so really cant comment on the play factor only that was hoping for a win (Portugal). All in all, not that bad, a point is much better than a loss and off course Portugal still very much in the hunt to reach the WC 2010.

Larsson, Mellberg, A. Svensson, Linderoth (4 regular starters), then Willhelmsson that plays 8 matches out of 10 and Rosenberg. It was a team on crutches.
I think everyone felt what the team itself said, happy..and disappointed. Happy about the result considering the circumstances, injury filled team and Portugal is great but disappointed since it was a home-game and Sweden was the better team on the pitch.
Unfortunately Zlatan got a yellow so he's out for the match in Lissabon.
