Ok first game of the competitive season, and its up against Vladamir Romanov's other team Kaunas. Our strike force is looking a little better and I think we will win this by one or two goals. The only problem is the midfield but that won't be that much of a problem.

I say Rangers 2-0 Kaunas :)

^ Hopefully it will go that way, I also hope that Velicka starts!

This is the team I would go with:

---------------McGregor----------------

Broadfoot*----King Celluar----Weir-------Papac

----------Thomson-----Adam*--------------

Novo----------------------------------Lafferty

----------Velicka---------Boyd---------------

*- I wouldn't have Broadfoot or Adam in the team but we have no other choice.

Your thoughts on this?

King Celluar is out for the game on Wednesday :(

Hopefully our defence play well without him.

Ok no note of the game being on TV yet but I suspect it will be on BBC 1 Scotland.

Anyway with the injuries this will have to be the revised team:

---------------McGregor---------------------

Daily-------Broadfoot------Weir--------papac-

----------McCulloch-----Adam--------------

Novo----------------------------------Lafferty

----------Velicka---------Boyd---------------

Any thoughts on this?

Ok so our opponents Kaunas won 7-2 on aggregate against Santa Coloma. I think that we will win this game but we have to be careful in case of any shocks.

I am interested to see how Boyd and Velicka play together...also looking forward to see if Lafferty can step up.

Broadfoot?? anyone but Broadfoot  We don't really have another choice and anyway what happened to your defence of all Rangers players especially when you went on your defence of Charlie Adam all last season!

If we cannot beat some crappy little Lithuanian team at home then we should not be allowed to compete in Europe for the next 5 years

I am sticking with my previous prediction of 5-1 for Rangers :smoking:

I am sticking with my previous prediction of 5-1 for Rangers :smoking: We struggled against Zeta last year and look at the European success we went on to have, I think if Miller, McCulloch and Adam play then we will struggle slightly. Though I highly doubt that we will get beat.

Well if the 1873 is referring to his birth date and he hasn't been on for a while, i would hazard a guess that he has snuffed it. :D

I mean they were fantastic contributers and I got on really well with Cambria and Ibrox1873 made fantastic long posts.

I did try to encourage a few of my Rangers supporting friends to come on the forum and they didn't exactly say no but they never came round to doing so, I think we need a stronger Rangers community on here.

Falkirk

Well at least I assume with a name like that because Yogi is the nickname of John Hughes the Falkirk manager and the bairns is Falkirk's nickname.

^ Obviously a man with sense then. Funnily enough his mob is the first team that Rangers are pumping in this SPL season. I don't mind Falkirk, I mean they have never done anything that worries me but they aren't our best of buddies either. They are a middle of the road club.

It seems that Sir David Murray is trying to hold off a TV deal until we get a full house, his main concern is that with Kenny Miller playing or in the team loads of fans will not turn out. I cannot go and theres only 2 days left so please to god someone arrange a TV deal!

Kaunas tie massive for Rangers

Rangers manager Walter Smith says Wednesday's Champions League qualifying match against FBK Kaunas is as important to the club as their appearance in last season's UEFA Cup Final.

The Scottish Premier League runners-up take on the Lithuanian champions at Ibrox in the second qualifying round first leg match after Kaunas secured a 7-2 aggregate win over Santa Coloma of Andorra. And Smith believes the pressure his side will face in the match will be as great as they faced against Zenit St Petersburg in May's UEFA Cup Final, which Rangers lost 2-0, because of the financial stakes.

"There's so much pressure to qualify for the group stage. The financial aspect is enormous," said Smith. "But you don't need to shield players. It's the chairman, directors and coaches who think about money.

"You have to be prepared, not just for success, but if it does not go for you. It's a major anxiety and I don't go away from that. We find ourselves in a strange situation where we have a high co-efficient, but face the situation that we have awkward games and they come at the wrong time of the year.

"You don't even get the benefit of three or four competitive games before you go in but that's the way it is. When you have European aspirations these are things you have to overcome."

Turning to Wednesday's opponents, Smith added: "Kaunas play a decent standard of football and we will have to play extremely well to progress. You have to handle it and make sure you are ready for it. After all our games in Europe last season we're not going to catch anyone cold. So we must up our performance."

The Rangers manager singled out Brazilian Rafael Ledesma as Kaunas's main threat. "Kaunas have something different in their midfielder Rafael Ledesma. He fits the Brazilian identikit, because he has a good touch and is terrific with free-kicks. But we have been on an incredible run in Europe and it could stand us in good stead."

The Ibrox club have plenty of injury worries for the match, with Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar the latest to be ruled out of Wednesday's game. He joins Rangers captain Barry Ferguson, Steven Naismith, Chris Burke and American winger DaMarcus Beasley on the treatment table, after he picked up a calf strain in a pre-season friendly against Scottish Second Division side Raith Rovers.

However, Lee McCulloch and Kevin Thomson, who both missed the match against Raith, are expected to be available for the game against Kaunas. Midfielder McCulloch's throat infection has cleared and Thomson has recovered from a knock he sustained in training.
