U19 European Championship 2008

The UEFA European Under-19 Championship consists of three distinct stages; the qualifying round, the Elite round and the final round. The qualifying round, played in autumn, is made up of 13 groups of four teams playing in one-venue mini-tournaments. The top two from each progress alongside the two third-placed teams with the best record against the top pair in their group. In the Elite round, played in the spring, those 28 qualifiers compete in seven mini-tournament groups of four. The group winners then join the hosts in the finals in July, and are split into two groups of four, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals and ultimately the final.

The finals will be played from 14 to 26 July 2008 in hte Czech Republic.

The Greek U19 national team completed the preperation today with a training at Agios Cosmas Athletic Centre and they departed for Czech Republic.

Among the players mentioned, Res, Karelis and Tachitsidis will finally not participate in the squad.

Greece tied Italy 1-1 and the Czech Republic beat England 2-0. Greece scored at the 23rd minute and Italy tied at the 89th minute on a penalty.

Για την πορεία της Εθνικής Νέων στο Ευρωπαϊκό Πρωτάθλημα U-19 μίλησε ο Αλέξης Αλεξίου στον NOVAΣΠΟΡ FM 94,6. Ο ομοσπονδιακός τεχνικός θεωρεί ότι οι δευτεραθλητές Ευρώπης είχαν καλή απόδοση απέναντι στους Τσέχους, αλλά η αποβολή του Σωτήρη Νίνη στο 64’ της αναμέτρησης «άλλαξε τις ισορροπίες». Ο 45χρονος τεχνικός πιστεύει ότι η «γαλανόλευκη» θα καταφέρει να νικήσει την Αγγλία στην τελευταία αγωνιστική και θα προκριθεί στην επόμενη φάση της διοργάνωσης. «Εμείς θα πανηγυρίσουμε στο τέλος» , το μήνυμα του Λεωνίδα Αργυρόπουλου στην ιστοσελίδα της ΕΠΟ.

Αρχικά, ο κ. Αλεξίου στάθηκε στο χθεσινό αγώνα: «Μπήκαμε δυνατά στο παιχνίδι, είχαμε την κατοχή της μπάλας, όμως η αποβολή του Νίνη στο δεύτερο ημίχρονο άλλαξε τις ισορροπίες. Ο βαρύς αγωνιστικός χώρος και η παρουσία αρκετών Τσέχων φιλάθλων μάς επηρέασε και τα παιδιά απέδειξαν πως έχουν μεγάλη καρδιά!», είπε και αναφέρθηκε γενικότερα στο Euro των Νέων: «Είμαστε στον πιο δύσκολο όμιλο και τα παιχνίδια είναι αμφίρροπα για όλες τις ομάδες. Μέχρι την τελευταία αγωνιστική δεν ξέρουμε ποιος θα περάσει στην επόμενη φάση. Εξάλλου, όλες οι ομάδες είναι δουλεμένες στην τακιτκή, βλέπετε την Ιταλία, την Αγγλία ακόμα και την Τσεχία. Όλη η ομάδα αμύνεται και οι παίκτες είναι πίσω από την μπάλα. Όλες οι ομάδες δίνουν βάση σε αυτό τον τομέα. Πλέον, ούτε στις μικρές Εθνικές ομάδες είναι προτεραιότητα το θεαματικό ποδόσφαιρο. Οι Εθνικές ομάδες των Νέων επικεντρώνονται στην τακτική».

Για τον τελευταίο αγώνα του δεύτερου ομίλου κόντρα στην Αγγλία, που κρίνει την πρόκριση στα ημιτελικά, τόνισε: «Έχω δώσει το σύνθημα στα παιδιά ότι μπορούμε να νικήσουμε και να περάσουμε. Το μόνο που με προβληματίζει είναι η κούραση, καθώς τα περισσότερα παιδιά δεν είχαν χρόνο συμμετοχής στους συλλόγους τους. Παρόλα αυτά, έχουμε ικανότητες και ταλέντο. Πιστεύω ότι την Κυριακή θα είμαστε έτοιμοι για να πάρουμε την πρόκριση», είπε και ανέλυσε την προσεχή μας αντίπαλο: «Δεν είναι η Αγγλία που παίζει με τις μεγάλες πάσες και ρίχνει το βάρος στη δύναμη. Είναι μία ομάδα που ξεκινάει από πίσω το παιχνίδι της. Έχει άλλάξει τρόπο παιχνιδιού και προσπαθεί να παίξει μπάλα».

Ερωτηθείς για την αποβολή του Σωτήρη Νίνη και αν η αντίδρασή του οφείλεται στο γεγονός ότι δεν αγωνιζόταν την περσινή περίοδο στον Παναθηναϊκό, σχολίασε: «Δεν ξέρω άν έχει επηρεαστεί. Θα μιλήσω μαζί του σήμερα. Βασικά, παρακολουθώ τον Σωτήρη (σ.σ.: Νίνη). Στενοχωρήθηκε πολύ και ζήτησε συγγνώμη από όλα τα παιδιά. Μερικά πράγματα δεν πρέπει να βγαίνουν στον “αέρα”. Η Εθνική ομάδα είναι πάνω από όλους και συμμετέχει σε μία τελική φάση. Όλη η Ευρώπη ασχολείται με αυτό. Δεν πήρε αρκετό χρόνο συμμετοχής, ότι παιχνίδια έχει κάνει τα έχει κάνει με τις Εθνικές ομάδες ».

Καταλήγοντας, ο κ. Αλεξίου στάθηκε στην περίπτωση των ελληνικών συλλόγων, που δεν αξιοποιούν τους νεαρούς Έλληνες ποδοσφαιριστές: «Ο καλός Έλληνας ποδοσφαιριστής αξίζει να πάρει μία θέση σε ελληνική ομάδα. Πρέπει να δοθούν ευκαιρίες σε Έλληνες παίκτες και μετά σε ξένους, εφόσον θέλουμε να φτιάξουμε την Εθνική ομάδα», είπε και συμπλήρωσε αναφερόμενος στα «παιδιά» του: «Όλα εξαρτώνται από τους ίδιους. Τους έχω πει πως “ό,τι αποκτήσουν θα το πάρουν μόνοι τους"».

i hope Greece can beat England to move onto the semis, Greece played very well last game against Czech but was unlucky to come out with a win, i hope Greece vs Germany in the finals but not too sure if they will meet in the semis or not because I'm not too sure about the formation the U19 uses in these kinds of tournaments but I'm guessing winner of each group faces each other and than runner up of each group face each other in the semis...
