This thread is about the Cypriot clubs participating in European competitions in the upcoming season.

Champions League

Anorthosis is drawn with the Armenian club Pyunik Yerevan for the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League. If Anorthosis qualify they are going to play with Austrian Rapid Vienna in the 3rd qualifying round.

UEFA cup

Cypriot cup winners APOEL are going to play with FK Pelister and Omonia are going to play with FK Milano for the first qualifying round of the UEFA cup. Both are Skopian clubs.

Intertoto cup

Ethnikos Achnas got eliminated from the Albanian club Besa Kavaje in the first round of the Intertoto cup.

How do you guys rate APOEL Nicosia? They will be facing Red Star Belgrade in the next UEFA Cup round.

APOEL and Anorthosis both invest a lot of money in football. They are kind of like the MLS, buying the older players from other leagues that are close to retirement such as Ze Carlos, Machlas, Paulista, etc. APOEL is pretty good quality club, about the quality of Vojvodina.

APOEL also bought also 2 polish players, who are after 30 years old, but quite good - Kosowski (a few months ago he was one of the polish league stars, but cash and cyprus sun are more important for him than play in higher level...) and Żewłakow (he played many matches for international teams several years ago). So this team may be pretty good, I know also another their`s new player, Paulista, who is dynamic, quite fast and really ambitious - but recently he has been replacement player in Wisła.

I am afraid to predict as I know nothing about this team.

I think the only time a Serbian club faced a Cypriot club was in 2001 when Red Star beat AC Omonia by the score of 3-2 on aggregate. I don't remember anything from this game, but the score indicates it was close.
* Serbo-Yugoslav results vs Cypriot clubs are not included.

I still believe Red Star is going through. Otherwise it would be a huge disapointment. Hopefully APOEL don't follow Anorthosis' example.

Omonia was deserving the win over Aek in OAKA.Aek's performance was really too poor.Now it has too difficult role in Cyprus to take the revenge by 2 goals win.

I ve been reading this thread from the beginning to the end.I read some people saying goodbye already to anorthosis....but anorthosis passed succesfully the 3 qualification rounds and its now officially 1 of the elite teams of europe that represents cyprus and a chance for all the europeans to learn about cyprus problem since anorthosis home is currently occupied.

Confratulations to anorthosis and all that believed to that team. all the team starting from the players ending to the funs played with their hearts and they deserved 1 spot in the champions league group stage.

Well done to Anorthosi. They proved everyone wrong (well me anyway :D). Ofcourse its good to play in the Champions League but its going to be very hard for them to get points, but from Cypriot football point of view its great for them even being in the Champions League.

What comes around goes around. Justice has been served! After Olympiakos won the championship last year via the courts and screwed AEK out of the championship, Olympiakos gets eliminated by the weakest team they faced in the 11 of 12 years they've been champions in Greece. They can control the Greek League but they cant control UEFA and the results. Even those fans that attacked the Anorthosis bus in Athens when the team arrived thought that tactic would work in Europe like it has in Greece but it didnt and now it backfired as the team might get punished. Nice that a former AEK player who is now the Anorthosis coach knocked out Olympiakos.

I wonder if Olympiakos will appeal their dismissal in the courts???

As Kanarya said, they will use the GSP of Lefkosia for their CL matches.

Normally the stadium of Anorthosis is the Diagoras GSE stadium at Amochostos (Famagusta) but after the Turkish invasion they are using the one in Larnaka.

Yes they are the first Cypriot club to enter the CL group stage, but if I am not mistaken the Cypriot club Pezoporikos FC (later it was renamed to AEK Larnaka) played in the European Champions cup in the past, before it became Champions League.

APOEL are my favorite team in Cyprus, however I did not expect they would have many chances to pass Red Star. I was expecting Anorthosis would probably qualify over Olympiakos :D but the result of APOEL today surprized me.

Now 2 Cypriot clubs (Omonia and APOEL) will be present in the draw of the UEFA cup first round.

As it looks like Manchester City are spending a lot of money on transfers lately. The Arabs that bought the club are determined to make it one of the leading clubs in England and there will be much improvement this year with the players adittions.

This makes things extremely difficult for Omonia. Of course football have teached us that impossible is nothing but any chances they have to pass Manchester City are much less compared to the chances they would have against Man. City of last or the previous years.

The first point ever of Anorthosis in CL came in their first game ever. A surprising result for a lot of people but not a really big surprise for me.

APOEL endured a heavy loss and they are actually already eliminated. Still it is a sucess for them to pass the UEFA cup qualifiers, as they don't often play in the 1st round from from what I know.

Omonia scored first in the 49th minute with Duro and City took the lead with 2 goals of Jo. I heard Omonia had two very good chances to bring back serious hopes before the end but they didn't manage to equalize and now things are very difficult for them. Most possibly they are out but their supporters have to be proud as today their team which has very small European experience faced with determination a much superior club.

The game finished some time before and APOEL had a good performance from what I heard. They scored first and made things difficult for Shalke, but their heavy defeat in the best game eliminates them.

Omonia lost 2-1 to Manchester City away and are eliminated as well. Now the only Cypriot club remaining in European competitions is Anorthosis in the Champions League.
