Hey, Aussie-Bosanac, I was very (pleasantly) surprised to spot this topic! Sorry, cause I'm like TWO MONTHS late, but anyway, thank you.

I actually was on Mljet. My experience there was great, I went with my girlfriend and we had some awesome time there. It's just too bad it took me 11hrs by car to reach Dubrovnik (which is also a pearl to be modest)...

Mljet is extremely wooded, water is clean (I guess you can see 30 meters to the bottom of the sea at the open sea next to Soline). And it's not like party at all, it's a quiet and romantic place (just THE place to take your woman http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/wink.gif ).

You're right about the lakes and the island, it's nice (monastery and all) and I loved the fact they don't let boats or anything in cause it's a National Park.

If anyone else goes to Mljet, I recommend:

- having a car (if you go for more than just a one-day trip and want to see the whole island)

- bringing a bike (you can't drive around in NT with car, but you're a tzar with bike)

- more money than usually if you're spoiled (rather expensive rooms)

- places: the Lakes and the small island, the open see near Soline (both west coast); a trip to Odisejeva spilja (center of the island, very hot); Saplunare (east coast) have beautiful and not crowded sand beaches, there is also a small kasarna with vojniki who bring you some food and make nice company.

- some army-type insect repellant (so you can sleep in a bag, it's all free and nobody makes a big deal out of it), moscitos are really BAD

- don't expect anything party (or people) like, cause the towns are REALLY small and there's not much people, no music, discos or crap like that, so...

- a WOMAN is a MUST-HAVE http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanx again, Aussie-Bosanac and I hope I contributed sth to sbd else, too.

I must say after all the stories I've heard from people about Mljet, I do regret that I didn't get to go when I was there. The ship just made a quick 15 min stop at Mljet, on the way to Korcula. Maybe next time...

As I've mentioned above I live on the island of Korcula and you know what summers are like around here, long and hot. Out at night, at sea at day. Not realy conditions for being around computers don't you think?

BBB - I'll make sure I do that. http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif Where is your house? The one right next to Marco's? http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

One of these years, hopefully soon, I'm planning to take a tour of ex-yu. Slovenija, Hrvatska, Bosna, and finish up in Novi Sad. Just between those 4 republics there are countless of 'treasures' to be explored and places that will have any tourist in awe.

PS: By the way, what exactly is there to do during night at Korcula? I mean what kind of night life do you guys have? It's a very small town. Clubs? Bars? Hang out places? I was there only for a few hours during the day.

Hey, BBB, I was on Korčula, too!

First, I went to Mljet, then I went to Korčula. I was there 6 days, in Žrnovska Banja - maybe you'll know the family, the owner is Budimir Brčić (old fellow, used to make boats). Rings a bell?

Korčula is a great place to party. Maybe the best island for party (I've been to Lošinj, Cres, Krk, Dugi otok, Mljet, Vis and Korčula as far as islands go and the liveliest of all is Korčula). They have bands all over the place (too bad they mostly sing hits in English language, I wanted to hear Vino na ustnama and they didn't play it http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/frown.gif ). I was also in a bar that is owned by some German fellow... The place to eat fish is called... well, I forgot, it's in the old town, near the kula that is closest to Pelješac (Morski konjič is in that kula).

But Korčula doesn't have so great beaches http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/redface.gif , because there's so many people (I hate crowded beaches) - like in Lumbarda - and the road is always close to the coast (east coast). I found a great uvala called Vaja, truly rules, but again a bit crowded...

Anyway, I liked the island very much (although it's totally sth else than peaceful and tourist-short Mljet) and I told Budimir I'm coming back http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ivan, if you do come to Slovenia, Škofja Loka is one of the places to see. Very ancient. Since I happen to live there http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/wink.gif we could go for a beer http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

seka - well my 'sestra' in Novi Sad will be going to Slovenija in a few days. She'll visit Ljubljana and also a small village called Zavratec where we used to vacation when we were small.

I'll make sure, to check out your part of the neighbourhood if/when I come. And of course, vice versa if you ever happen to be in Novi Sad the same time I am. Drinks are on me http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

By the way, now that you mentioned music - I was wondering what are some of the popular 'domaci' groups that are currently being heard in Slovenija? Also I'm sure you guys get hits from Croatia, but what about Serbian music? I know that in Croatia the market is just about closed to all the Serbian CD's. That's a shame I think, and its not very fair. In Serbia, in any CD store you'll find a big selection of Croatian groups and various Croatian compilations under the "domestic" section. Not to mention that Magazin is probably still among the top 5 most popular groups in Yugo.

OK, Ivan, we have a deal!

About music: in Slovenia, there's a young group called SIDDHARTA (they also have a web site, here's Slovenia's starting point if you wanna search for sth: http://www.matkurja.com/slo/resources/ ), that's currently hot. They play rock music, close to grunge, I'd say. Also, Lovšin, Kreslin, Predin are still very popular as well as Magnifico (he's THE image man), who even did a piece with Alka Vuica in combined SLO-CRO language. For older people there's Helena Blagne, who is like Lepa Brena, if you catch my drift http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

Đorđe Balašević recently got SLO citizenship and is singing his "Prva ljubav" in Slovene language ("Prva ljubezen") - in that song the lyrics are a bit different, so he sings also: "uvjek sam želeo biti desni bek, ili barem Srečko Katanec"... Loša is also "Slovenac", making music for SLO films ("Outsider" - great movie), as well as Djuro of Audicija...

Also, you can get CRO, Bosnian, and YU music in EVERY STORE (Parni valjak, Psihomodo pop, Crvena jabuka, Bijelo dugme, Zabranjeno pušenje, Riblja čorba, Bajaga, Goran Bregović...).

There's lots of ex-YU bands and musicians in SLO every day (Valjak, Prljavci, Bajaga, Bregović, Jabuka, Plavi Orkestar, Josipa Lisac, Oliver Dragojević...), only Bora Čorba can't come because of his "bečki konjušari" and some other things he said about Slovenia before his concert. The concert should be in LJ, but he gave some interview and said really racist stuff, so they canceled his visa and his concert... Besides Čorba, everybody who is anybody is in Slovenia AT LEAST once per year. Well, I'm waiting for Ceca to come aswell http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

I personally have 3 CDs of each Čorba and Plavi orkestar, 2 CDs of Dugme, Jabuka, Prljavo kazalište, 1 CD of Bregović (Underground - that's THE BEST of them all) Balaševič and Psihomodo pop.

seka - thanks for the input. I'll make sure to check out the site. Since you say that SIDDHARTA are one of the hottest groups right now in Slovenia, can you tell me one of their popular songs so perhaps I can download it of the net. I'm really interested in hearing it.

I read that when Balasevic had his concert in Ljubljana last year (or was it 2 years ago?) that the traffic in the city became "locked". A lot of people were going to the concert so it caused a huge traffic overflow and it affected the whole city. True? Or just a tad big exaggerated? http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

I was unaware of the things Bora said. I think his age is getting to him. Stvarno je omatorio! http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

First about SIDDHARTA. The best pieces are:

- POT V X (The road to X): this one is on the net 100%
- LUNANAI (this one, Vlado Kreslin is singing with 'em): I like this one better, also great video

I forgot to tell you about another great rock band in SLO, they're not new like Siddharta, they've been around and have numerous hits: BIG FOOT MAMA They sing in LJ accent, wonderful music.

Now, to Bora Čorba. You know how Bora is like... It was very stupid of him, as he was very well received, fans were waiting for him, the concert was almost ready... And then he goes, people couldn't believe it. I think he just wanted to show off with his words (a la glejte Slovenci, jebe se mi za vas...), but to his dismay, everybody was so pissed off that they had to shut him down and sent him back before he even came... Did he enter, sbd would kill him. I guess that cracked his theory...

Funny thing is, that Bora is even today saying he'll only come to Slovenia if WE invite him... The guy just can't get it? http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/confused.gif He's so full of himself that it affects his mental health. But if he wasn't like that, I guess his music wouldn't be so cool either...

I remember Bajaga, he was welcomed as god, he was on TV - prime time - in a second, fans loved him, the concert could be anywhere and it'd be full. It was in 96 (remember Šetač demonstrations in Serbia?). You know Bajaga, he's always for student cause and everything, really nice guy, who appreciates the respect and gives it all back. Tu us, he was a symbol of student resistance in Serbia, so he got tremendous support... "I don't care of Slobo or X or Z. I am not a politician, I am a musician. But I'll alway support the good cause I found in these young people, so I'm trowing concerts for free in Belgrade to support them." LJ was FULL of students when he came, we were sitting all over, cause we couldn't get tickets. It was an event that gives you the feeling you're in a CITY, not village, if you know what I mean...

OK, about Đorđe Balašević. Now, this guy is A LEGEND. His concert was in Tivoli (where Olimpija plays basket) and was sold-out in no time. Đorđe was playing like 6 hours, to 3-4 AM, he couldn't stop, cause people were carryin' him... I wasn't there http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/frown.gif , but my schoolmate was, and he told me there was NEVER EVER such a concert in Ljubljana... Đorđe was singing and singing and people didn't want to go home, so he kept singing. You know how people sometimes get tired, well, not with Đorđe they don't... They sung Petao for several times, whole Tivoli.

I guess no concert could stop the traffic in LJ, but Tivoli is just across one of the 5 major roads that go to the center and it's just at the end of this road, almost in the center. So, I guess when people came, they must have stopped the traffic, but nothing special.

Since I got into it, let me tell you about Crvena Jabuka. They had a concert in some disco and Žera was all drunk and acting really Balkan (since there's a good and a bad meaning of this word to me, I must add - this time I mean the bad meaning of the word). So people kinda got tired with him almost asleep up there with his cigarette and all. They made a short break, then. Some people went home and when Žera saw it, he went up where Saša Lošić was sitting with his friends (people didn't know Loša was in the disco) and persuaded Loša to take the mike and sing. Now, Loša didn't expect that and he was also drunk as hell, but Žera told him Jabuka will play whatever Loša sings.

So, Loša comes down, feeling kinda sramežljiv, takes the mike and goes VERY VERY SLOW: "... svaaaku tvoju riječ ja voolim, mada ništa neee razumijeeem..." PEOPLE WENT NUTS! Like sbd threw a bomb! It was before Loša came back with Plavi Orkestar, so NOBODY EXPECTED something like that to happen again... Boy, would you know how happy Loša was... He was crying up there, saying "Hvala, hvala, da me još niste pozabili" and trying to speak in Slovene. CHICKS WERE CRAZY...

It wasn't until 6+ moths later when Plavi Orkestar got back together. You should see Loša now, people in SLO love him, not only because of PO, but because he made the music for Outsider and he's always speaking Slovene in public, even if with naglasak.

So, ex-Yuga musicians, as you can see, are considered zakon in Slovenia.

Hey I downloaded Pot v x! I must say they are really good. Not bad for a bunch of Slovenians http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/wink.gif I just get this weird feeling in my stomach when I listen to them. Its like I can understand them, but not really http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif Its even worse then trying to read Slovenian! Actually, if I didn't know better I could easily confuse the song to be German or some type of Flemish language. No offense. hehehe By the way, how does Siddharta stand with respect to outside tours. Obviously they are popular in Slovenia, but have they done any tours in Europe?

Perhaps if Bora Corba was to say what he said 10 years from now, not many people would care. But even now after 10 years the scars are still there, despite the fact that the two countries parted ways relatively painlessly, when compared to certain other republics. Also, some people might consider him to be a nationalist, especially after he made the song Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava, but I don't think thats the case at all. That song, was made during the bombing, and its basically a patriotic song ment to bring unity among the Serbs. I don't think its nationalistic at all in a bad way, and you have to understand that when someone like me listens to a song like that, it almost bring tears to my eyes. Besides, many Serbian musicians (and non-Serbia I may add) made anti-war songs during the bombing. Including the now world famous Indexovo Pozoriste.

Anyway, back to less "sensitive" things, in '96 I went to a Balasevic concert that he had in Novi Sad (in "Spens"). It was called "Na posletku", and I don't think it was as long as the one in LJ, but let me tell you it lasted a good 4 hours! Somewhere around 5,000 people attended (sold out - and it was the last day of his 3 day "tour" in Novi Sad). I don't know how many times he had to come back out on stage, the people just did not want to see him leave. Especially after he said at the concert that this will be the last time he holds a concert in Novi Sad http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/frown.gif Although I am sure he'll change his mind when the government changes.

By the way, how is his daughter doing? Has she recovered from the accident? I actually saw his other daughter, Jovana, in a club this summer in NS. I must say she looks mighty hot http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif If she wouldn't have been with 5 guys, I would have went up to her http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ivan here you have a link http://www.siddharta.net/slo/audio.htm

Download Lunanai with Kreslin. Here's the video http://www.siddharta.net/slo/video.htm

To me, Lunanai is better.

About the lyrics of Pot v X, it's like:

V sobani poet sedi,
v upanju da prave rime dobi
za vsak trenutek ki ga je doživel
v življenju na svetu zanj polnemu
gorja in milosti

Morda je prav tudi to
temu naj sodi le zdravo telo
vem pa, da vse temelji le na tem
in vsem to povem

Vsi vemo...

Sam je pravil, da je pisal,
kar je čutil
danes pa prodaja neke slinaste
niti omembe vredne pesmi

Vsi.. ne vedo, da so nasedli
vsem tem hinavskim lažem,
ne vedo,
da le strmijo v stvari,
ki v v bistvu jih ni...

If you don't uderstand sth, I'll translate it to you if you want.

Download Lunanai and tell me what you think of it. If you find MAGNIFICO "Magnifico je peder" piece, that's a good one, too.

I d/led the one with Kreslin. And also "Magnifico je peder". I still like "Pot v x" the best http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

What is the theme of Pot v x? Something about a writer/poet and policeman?? Sorry, my Slovenian is really bad http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'll try to translate..

U sobani poet sjedi,
u nadi da dobije pravu rimu,
za svaki tren, kojeg je doživio
u životu na svijetu za njega punom
gora i milosti

Možda i to je u redu
o tome neka sudi samo zdravo tijelo
a znam, da sve bazira samo na tom
i svima to kažem

Svi znamo...

Sam je govorio, da je pisao
ono što je čutio
a danas prodaja neke slinjave
ni riječi vrijedne pjesme

Svi.. ne znaju, da su se nasamarili
zbog ovih hinavskih laži,
ne znaju,
da samo vjeruju u stvari,
kojih u istini uopšte nema...

OK?
It's about lies, hypocracy and outside image being contrary to the inner truth...

Like it?
