Plot

Niko outside a building in Broker.[29]Niko Bellic is a Serbian immigrant who is thirty years of age and a veteran of the Bosnian War. He has come to Liberty City to pursue the "American Dream". Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin Roman, who had claimed in multiple e-mails to Niko that he was living a fabulous life, with a mansion, women, hot tubs and sports cars. Roman's claims turn out to be lies to hide his own failures. In reality, he only owns a small taxi business and is in serious debt with local gang bosses, which he manages to resolve by enlisting Niko's help in killing them.

Niko and Roman feud constantly. It is later revealed that one of the reasons Niko, as an ex-soldier, went to Liberty City, is to track down the man who betrayed his old army unit: Darko Brevic. Niko soon creates ties with the Liberty City Bratva through Vladimir Glebov and later encounters a major figure of the Bratva, Mikhail Faustin and his associate, Dimitri Rascalov. Niko completes jobs for Faustin before joining Dimitri's plot to betray Faustin and take over the organisation. Niko assassinates Faustin on Dimitri's orders. Niko later meets with him to collect his reward for the killing, however Dimitri reveals his new associate Rodislav Bulgarin and betrays Niko, ordering Bulgarin's men to kill him. Little Jacob arrives on the scene and rescues Niko, however Dimitri escapes and Jacob suggests dealing with him later.

Niko receives a phone call from Roman, who is hiding in a remote location after having received several silent calls. The two meet up and they drive back to find both Roman's apartment and taxi depot in flames. The two escape to Bohan, after receiving death threats from Dimitri, and Roman reveals his plans to propose to his girlfriend Mallorie.

Towards the conclusion of the storyline, the Liberty City mafia locate Darko and bring him to Niko, who discovers that Darko has become a drug-fuelled, guilt-ridden wreck. The player has the option of executing Darko or sparing his life. Afterwards, Niko relaxes at a bar when Jimmy Pegorino shows up and asks him to get some heroin for him that he can sell to a buyer: Dimitri Rascalov.

The only thing i havent liked about this series is how rockstar is rushing this game out , gta 3 and vice city had alot of bugs (havent played andreas yet) i catually had to stop playing gta 3 when i came to a ertain race mission. everytime i passed the same place my car just blew up with a shotgun shot or sumthing lol

This guy is not a Serbian terrorist or anything. There are chances that he may be a Serbian (Not a war criminal) but I also doubt that too. If you played the game like i did you would know these facts:

-Niko mentions the war and states how he and other civilians didn't have any weapons at first (Ex: Croats and Bosnians)
-Niko Bellic is more of a Croatian name
-Niko talks about hiding in a Church as soldiers cut throats of children within the same place (Reference to massacres within Croatia)

I do not know what the hell he is, he can be whatever. Its not like it proves something anyways. But judging on some things, to me he seems Croatian. Really...its not that important.

Yeah Lambos do come out in Vice City and I agree VC is probable the best GTA I've played, I'm not sure about this one though, I haven't played it!

I am not making any claims, I am simply saying from the story he sounds as if he was involved in Croatia's conflict. And his name is Niko for the love of god. And, nothing has been confirmed from the GTA 4 producers. Those are review magazines, they use search engines just as we do. lol. In the GTA game there is 0 mention of his nationality except that he has seen Genocide. 0 confirmation of him nationality from the makers them selfs. How the hell can a game magazine conform anything? Not that I care, but I am speaking realistically since I played the game and there is no mention of what he is. In the pursuit, Bazda steps on a mine and his ally Sasha leaves him to die. The situation intensifies when Serbs claim that the downed aviator was shot dead by Bosnian guerrillas, after they find their dead soldier in the pilot suit. The rescue attempt is called off as Burnett sees the helicopter fly away.


Finally, he manages to contact the carrier via a locater in his ejection seat. Upon learning that Burnett is alive, Reigart decides to immediately set out to rescue Burnett knowing that he would lose his command for going in without authorization. The Serbian sniper tracks Burnett and waits for him to move when he hears the noise of a helicopter and he moves in for the kill. But Burnett emerges from the snow shooting and later stabbing him with a flare. Serbian M-84 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-84) tanks, BMP-1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMP-1) armour vehicles and infantry surround Burnett. Near the helicopter Burnett turns back for the photographs of the massacre. Under a hail of bullets he retrieves the disk and is rescued. This leads to Lokar's arrest and although Reigart was reassigned for superseding the chain of command, he decided to retire from the Navy.

Niko Bellic

But Burnett emerges from the snow shooting and later stabbing him with a flare. Grand Theft Auto IV Star Based on Russian Actor?



Looking over that trailer of Grand Theft Auto IV, we couldn't help but notice something familiar about the (alleged) Russian character starring in the game. So after thinking about it quite a bit, we realized who we were reminded of - a Russian actor by the name of Vladimir Mashkov. You may be thinking "who?", but you may have seen him in an American movie a few years ago. If you saw the Owen Wilson movie Behind Enemy Lines, you may recall the movie's bad-ass sniper who followed Owen's character everywhere he went -- yeah, that was Vladimir.

In case you've never seen Behind Enemy Lines or Vladimir Mashkov, well we have you covered. Take a look at the comparison pic of Mashkov and GTA IV's character. Notice the similarity in eyes, nose, lips, the large ears, the scruffy beard, and the short hair? While the GTA character may look a bit more cartoonish, we still think that the resemblance may have been what Rockstar was aiming for.

Vladimir Mashkov isn't exactly unknown over in Russia, in fact, quite the opposite. He's won 9 awards, out of 12 nominations, many of which were Best Actor awards. We’ve seen some of his work, and he is indeed a very powerful actor. It could be purely coincidental, but seeing as how games are frequently using likenesses of celebrities today (Onimusha series, Stranglehold, etc.), it’s also not very surprising. We'll attempt to contact Rockstar about this sometime soon and see what they have to say.

Yea as I mentioned in the GTA IV Trailer thread I got it last week for the 360 and the game is excellent. I've played all the GTA games since it was first released in 1999 and Vice city had previously been my favourite (I didn't rate San Andreas) but GTA IV is the best yet. The driving engine has been revamped and driving feels more like a racing sim now. You actually have to brake to get round corners and in high speed chases you need to use handbrake turns otherwise cornering is near impossible.

One thing is sure: Niko Bellic is not Russian. He even states this when this guy adresses him as a Russian, Niko says "I am not Russian!".

There are two possibilites. He is either Croatian or Serbian. There are two possibles derivations of the name "Bellic": Bilic (CRO) and Belic (SRB). Bellic is not from any other Eastern European country.

He is from the Balkans for sure. This is represented in the game on several occasions (e.g. "You Balkan peasant!"). I am rightly assuming he is indeed a Serbian veteran of the Bosnian War. I choose not to wait for Rockstar to pronounce themselves on the subject since either way it will end up being Serbian (or slight chance being Croatian). He is also labelled as Serbian in the game and never as Croatian. Sometimes he is labelled as Russian because of the whole mafia thing and the involment of several Russian characters, but I don't think Rockstar would make Niko say "I am not Russian" for no reason.

PS. "Bellum" is the latin word for WAR.

But describing his situation in the game of seeing "Kids have their throats cut in Churches" it sounds as if he is a Croat. He also mentions "We didn't have any weapons so we hid in Churches" this pretty much rids the idea of him being a war criminal. He is a Serb present in Bosnian war, or a Croat. If he happens to be a Serbian from Serbia, then I think Rockstar has to straighten out its historic knowledge.

Im up to a point in the game where you have around 4-5 people you are working for, it gets really interesting and i cant stop putting the controller down haha

When they made KOTOR,FABLE,Jade Empire and now MASS EFFECT on PC,i can guarantee you that this baby will be soon on my PC...
Every game studio knows that the real deal are the PC's,but the current war between the consoles,accumulates more money.
They admitted by them selves that PC's are the best thing when gaming is concerned...

I agree with people who cheat are not real gamers. But you being a PC gamer should know that there is way more cheating on PC gaming then console gaming. I never seen cheaters (except maybe someone using a GLITCH) on XBL or PS3 online. While i see loads of cheaters on PC..

Enjoy the wait, so far there is no word on GTAIV on PC. There is no money to be made in PC gaming, most people just use torrents. Rockstar probably know by now its a waste of time to release it on PC. I think chances of it coming to PC are low, and if it comes then it will be like 1 year from now lol.

Yeah they ported over some games to the PC, but not all. Mass effect is so 2007 for me, and fable II is coming on 360 soon and not PC. Sucks you cant afford a console man, you will be missing so many great games like MGS4, GT5, Uncharted, God of War III, Resistance 2, killzone 2, ninja gaiden 2, halo 3, lost odyssey, dead rising 1-2, silent hill V, heavenly sword 1-2.... lol i can go on and on. Oh and Gears of war 2 come out november 08...but that game maybe comes out on PC nov 09 :lol:

bought the new gta yesterday.. and im up to the the mission where you save roman, one of the 1st ones where u chase that guy after saving roman in the basketball courts.. so far quite a good game but i know it gets a whole lot better :)

and there is yet another mission where you have to save roman from all these russian mafia's in a warehouse planned by dimitri

before that mission i was really stuck on a drug deal mission lead by elizibeth.

i am now working for a irish guy called packie, a italian mob boss called ray, and im still working for brucie who gives you missions to steal cars and bikes and boats

oh and dont trust your ***king girlfriend michelle in the game, she turns out to be a government spy!!!!!

the game is getting more and more awesome, i was rolling with little jacob last night and we ended up rocket lauching and taking down a freaking helicopter hahahaha

i finished all the mission a short time ago, im basically finished the game, but i have to now do some minor missions and then its time to muck around :D
