Zenit have to pay these millions because nobody wants to play in Russia. But regarding Timozshuk I can say he is the best DM in Europe, he costs much more money.
Except Fatih Tekke there was no big transfers. It doesn't seems like Zenit just bought super players and created dreamteam like Real Madrid.

Zenit almost won Russian PL in 2003, when we got silver with team of young homegrown players. And we really could get UEFA Cup two years later playing fast adventurous football without big budget. Fans called them Validol Team(validol is a kind of medicals for heart) because final score 4-3 with goal at 93 minute was usual thing. Now it's mature team that plays mature football. Yes, big money gives big possibilities but sometimes when I see Andrei Arshavin rushing to goal like he has wings on his back I forget that he's millionaire and remember that silver team of Vlastimil Peterzela.
That's great when teams without star players reach such results and I would wish luck to Rangers but not this time.

Just small comments: first of all not 13000 but only around 9000 Zenit fans will come since not everybody managed to get visas on time.

I think Zenit is much more likely to win and that's what I really hope sine I'm as every citizen of Saint-Petersburg a true supporter of our team. You won't believe how much it will mean not for only Saint-Peterburg but for all Russians as well (couple of years ago Moscow team won and there were celebration all over the contry) :p

On the other hand Zenit is very impredictable team - they can make either good or bad surprizes so Rangers still have a slight chance :lol:

Well to be fair Rangers were the better team for most of the second half. I'm a neutral as I support no team other than Utd. I don't believe in all that second team and supporting other teams from your nation etc but I don't think there was a lot of difference between the teams and Rangers had their chances but didn't take them.

Zenit were definately the better team in the first half but think Rangers were slightly better of the two teams in the second half. Once Zenit scored Rangers had to throw everything forward which left them open at the back. Prior to the first goal there didn't seem a way through for Zenit they were running out of ideas but the goal was well taken and was the one ball Zenit played which carved up the Rangers defence.

Rangers fans will probably say they should have had a Pen for handball in the box but I think that would have been a soft penalty was more ball to hand than anything else. Rangers should have equalised towards the end but if you can't get your shots on target you've had it! The second goal came because of how stretched Rangers were a t the back.

Zenit deserved their win for their hard work but just don't think it was a one sided game. There wasn't a lot to choose between the two sides.

On an amusing note .... well not amusing to the guy in question ... but anyway .... before the match ITV were interviewing people going into the game and talked to one guy with his sone who said he'd paid £1000 per ticket. The ITV report said "so you spent £2000" looking at the kid next to him ... "erm no" he said ... "there are SEVEN of us". :lol: He spent £7k to watch his team get beaten!! ;)

Zenit beat Leverkusen, Bayern, etc. and Rangers beat Bremen, Stuttgart, Lyon, Fiorentina, etc. Both deserved to be in the finals but Zenit was just more precise. They were the better team ;)

Malafeev: 6.5 – Had little to do all game, however he did make one fine save from Darcheville early in the second half.

Anyukov: 6.5 – A good outlet down the right, though not as effective as he has been earlier on in the tournament.

Krizanac: 6 – A sound performance in the centre of defence from the Croatian, even if he was only up against one attacker in Darcheville for most of the game.

Shirokov: 6.5 - Did not have much defending to do, but made on fine block on a Whittaker shot. Brought the ball out well from the back. Very comfortable in possession.

Sirl: 8 – One of Zenit’s best players on the night. Bombed forward repeatedly down the left flank. A sweet left foot too, as he showed with a couple of long range shots.

Tymoschuk: 7.5 – Protected the Zenit defence well, organising and dictating the play. An excellent holding midfielder, expect some interest from clubs around Europe this summer.

Zyryanov: 7 - Should have made it 2-0 when he hit the post from close range, but made no mistake in injury time when he did indeed double the scores.

Denisov: 7.5 – Busy performance from the local lad, who exploded into life on 72 minutes, starting and finishing the move for Zenit’s decisive opener. Took the goal clinically.

Fayzulin: 6.5 – Took up some intelligent positions in and around the box, even if his final ball occasionally let him down.

Arshavin: 9 – A class act. The most inventive and skilful player on the pitch, he was unstoppable in the second half. Delivered a fantastic through ball for Denisov’s goal, and another one in the build-up for Zyrianov’s clincher. Also could have scored twice himself, shooting into the sidenetting and seeing a shot cleared off the line after he rounded Alexander. Man-of-the-match.

Tekke: 6 – Filled in for the suspended Pogrebnyak, but never really got into the game did the Turkish international. However he did provide the pass for Zyrianov’s late second.

Alexander: 7 – Largely assured display from Alexander. Excellent on crosses and authoritative, however he made one rash decision to rush off his line, when Arshavin saw his shot cleared off the line. Blameless on both goals

Broadfoot: 5 – Exposed time and again by Sirl and Arshavin down his side. Lots of heart, but simply not good enough. Perhaps lucky not to concede a penalty for handball before half time.

Weir: 6.5 – The 38-year-old won everything in the air, heading away countless crosses. Did well alongside Cuellar once again.

Cuellar: 7 – Not as commanding as he has been on this European journey, but still comfortably dealt with Tekke. Cuellar has been a revelation this season, and if anyone deserved a UEFA Cup winners’ medal it was him.

Papac: 7.5 – Rangers’ best player tonight. Limited the effectiveness of Anyukov, and won virtually every tackle he went in for. Also cleared Arshavin’s shot off the line.

Thomson: 5.5 – Lots of quantity from Thomson, who put his body on the line for the team, but not much quality.

Davis: 6 – Spent most of his game tracking Sirl’s forward runs, however he did create Rangers' best chance for Darcheville with an excellent through ball.

Hemdani: 5.5 – Completely anonymous in the first half, although he was a little more involved after the interval. Still completely outclassed by the Zenit midfielders.

Whittaker: 5.5 – Lots of effort, as with every single Rangers player, but again not too much quality. Saw one shot deflected wide when well placed.

Ferguson: 6 – Very poor in the first half was the Rangers captain, but he improved after the break, and influenced his men a little more.

Darchville: 6.5 – Never stopped running, as in every game he plays, but was left far too isolated by the nine players behind him. Had Rangers' only real shot on goal well saved by Malafeev.

I really feel sorry for some people who went to the game like Andygers to show his colors and pride for his club ;( But I give it to Rangers for making it to the finals.

The game was excellent with a lot of chances. My heart almost stopped when the Zenit played chipped the ball, goalkeeper nowhere to be seen and no defenders whatsoever, and Papac heading it away from the line. Then I went to the bathroom and came back and I saw 1-0 and I got pissed off. Congrats to Zenit ;)

Tekke played much better than a 6 rating :) He has been out for so long and yet he kept running all the way back to midfield ad on some occasions to the back areas, but his teams could never pass it to him. And with 1.76 he still managed to win an high amount of heading duels and create enough trouble to make space for the wings, plus he won the crucial airball that led to the first goal aswell makking an 2nd goal assist u shud edit ur rank :P j/k

lmaoooooooooooooooooo, i know bayern got thrashed 4-0, Zenit trashed Rangers top to bottom my friend, Zenit made it look easy by getting so many opportunity's at your net, the whole world saw how Zenit dominated Rangers all night long and theres no excuse for that. Bayern might of got trashed 4-0 but at least we were getting more shots on goal than you will ever get hahah.....Zenit was pressuring you guys so much that it was only a matter of time before they got that 1-0 lead, and in the last minute they finished it off with a beautiful pass in the middle with an easy tap in..... i saw how the russains were trashing Manchester yesterday dam man, they did some serious damage and no one could stop them .........
