I would just like to inform you that England's none qualification for this summers Euro's was intentional.

We are having our own private bash in Moscow!

Manchester Utd will play either Chelski or Liverpool in the ultimate club final, which confirms the EPLs status as the greatest league on the planet. Even the deepest of sceptics will have to admit this now or run the risk of looking foolish.

Every Englishman should feel proud of the EPL status.

Now for the bit that F**ks me off. :mad2:

Rooney, Ferdinand, Brown, Carrick, Scholes, Hargreaves will all more than likely play in the final. If Chelski win (which) I think they will. This will mean A. Cole, Terry, Lampard, J. Cole could also star in the spectacle. They have all proved the worth on the CL stage and it is just criminal they don't do it for the NT.

yeh if you look at the last 3 cl tournaments, the english teams have done really well.

its a shame its not Man U Vs Arsenal final, it would have been so much better, 2 best teams in england imo and wouldve been fitting for the final.

but anyway will be good to see so many english players on the field for the final, i hope it will be chelsea vs man u

Chelsea owned by a Russian

I could never except the fact that my team is owned by some foreigner, I dont even think ill be supporting that team anymore.

Well Paul, they are 1 and 2 in the EPL. It would just completely underline the form book and the awesome strength of the EPL.

Potentially there could be 11 englishmen on the field in Moscow (if Chelski make it) but more realistically 9 or 10. Now we know the players can perform at the highest level, so hopefully Capello can work out how to make them work as a unit for the NT.

That is a racist statement if ever I heard one. (Ban?)

Your remarks about ownership have nothing whatsoever to do with the ENGLISH teams in the final.

As usual you are trolling instead of bowing down to the awesome strength of the EPL.

Kanarya, what are you on about? It does not matter who owns what team and where they come from. Its about where the team was founded originally and where they team is located and what type of people support that team. Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, all these teams were obviously founded in england, therefore they are english teams....its pretty simple....therefore its an all english affair because these 3 have managed to stay in the competition....it shows how strong the epl teams are....

Anyway, i think it will be a Man Utd vs Liverpool Final and then Man Utd will go on to win it :)

Amen. It is not hard to work out eh?

But, I also want Capello to work out how to get the very decent english payers playing as a unit. Ferdinand owned barca last night. Messi was left looking like a show pony. Plenty of flair, but zero end product.

Anyhow, I have thought for a while Chelsea will win this thing in Moscow for Abramovich.

I do not think this necessarily shows the strenght of the EPL as much as it shows the strength of the "Big 4"...If the entire EPL was so great than why did all the mid level EPL teams not do a damn thing in the UEFA Cup?

A damn thing? I believe Tottenham and Everton went out on penalties over 2 legs? You can't really legislate for that as it is a lottery. Everton went out to Fiorentina on penalties, so if Rangers get beaten by Fiorentina then that in my mind makes Everton better than Rangers!

And Ulster, Portsmouth made the FA Cup final and trust me the big 4 wanted to be in that one! Also, there are 5 sides in the mix up for the last 2 relegation spots with 2 games remaining. Surely this is a sign of strength in depth?

I agree with TL here. English teams have been big in Europe this season and not just the CL. Not just English teams either Scottish teams have done well. Rangers in particular.

Chelsea look through now. I was hoping for Liverpool actually if only because of the intense rivalry but we'll dispatch Chelsea just as easily ;)

And the Scouse should have had two pens in the second half!

BABEL!!!!!! Tense finish now ;)

Regarding the UEFA Cup:

There's a big gap between top four and the rest of the EPL and it may well be that the middling clubs of other leagues are better than their equivalents in the EPL.

But what needs to be remembered is that the EPL entry is from places 5 downwards. Good leagues like France, Holland, Germany, Portugal and slightly lesser (but still good) leagues like Greece, Turkey, Scotland, Belgium etc get fewer CL places so teams finishing as high as 2nd go into the UEFA Cup.

While the EPL teams consistently progress in the CL, not all the other top teams do. Some drop into the UEFA Cup as a result of a third place finish in their CL group.

Consequently teams like PSV, Dinamo Zagreb, Ajax, Anderlecht, Red Star Belgrade, Marseille, Benfica, Lisbon, Rangers, Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid are in the UEFA Cup. They all have great experience of European football; some even have finals experience.

And the likes of Bolton, who just avoided relegation, are expected to compete with that quality?

Given they are competing with clubs well above their levels, those EPL clubs that finish in the UEFA positions have actually done pretty well.

I would also like to say that Everton got knocked out on penalty kicks by Fiorentina after by and large looking the more likely of the 2 to go through. Then Rangers go and progress to the final after knocking Fiorentina out on penalty kicks after Fiorentina looking more likely to win. I would love for Rangers to go and win the Uefa Cup now, but does this make them a better side than Everton? No, not at all.

If the EPL second and third placed teams of Chelsea and Arsenal went into the Uefa Cup next season I would say there would be a pretty damn good chance they would win it. And before all of the EPL knockers have a fit of temper and start crying, remember that the EPL runner up made it it the CL final this year.

So all in all Bristol has a very valid point.

Regarding the all English affair:

There seems to be a lack of talk about this here yet everyone has their opinion on the UEFA Cup final, why is this? Is it because no one wants to talk about English football anymore? Is it because the game is still a few weeks away or is it because people think that it is a fore-gone conclusion?

It does seem that people are sick of being told that the EPL is the best but I would have thought this would have generated more chat, as it is the premier final in Europe...

I would put a lot of it down to jealously Andy. I am english and never do I get tired of hearing about how great the EPL is. I mean if the SPL was the greatest show on earth would you get tired of hearing about it? :D

So the likes of me, Paulthegooner, Footballspy007, Gavmundo probably won't get tired of talking about it. The thing is that a lot of people love to say some really classy things about the english NT and EPL in here and i guess they are now eating humble pie.

Cos also, in a round about way it has shown that England has players to compete at the highest level. Yes, about half the outfield players will be english at the CL final. ;) So, the quality is there and Capello is no fool, he will have seen that. Now all he needs to do is get them playing as unit.

So all in all Jealousy and humbie pie comes to mind.

eh? its just like every other champions league final mate..?

there has been a lot of talk about how well the english teams have done now, some like it, some hate it, who cares, to be honest i think the performances from man u and arsenal were outstanding this CL, except for man u's pussy game against barca, but the roma games where good..

i think next year will be a better year for football, there will be some big signings from all the big clubs

Gavmundo

I think if it was an all Italian final or all Spanish final we wouldn't stop hearing about how those teams had the best leagues. I agree with the Legend somewhat as in that the talk of who's best has died down because it is an all English final. If it wasn't we'd be hearing a lot more talk.

Of course another reason is the thread is in the English football forum and a lot of people wouldn't particularly go looking in there. If this thread was in world football or a Champions League thread i expect there'd be a lot more discussion going on ;)

I'd also point out that I don't think the EPL is the best league because the CL is an all english final. I do believe it is best as English teams have done very well in europe over the last few seasons. Winning the cup doesn't make a league the best but continually having the majority of teams from your country in the latter stages does suggest the league they are from is strong.

As long as you enjoy watching the football from the league you like best it doesn't really matter who are the best. I've always considered the EPL the best just because it's my league and the one that shows the most enjoyable football in my opinion just as any fan will consider their league the best.

Well i'm a neutral here so this is an unbiased opinion .... It's an impossibility for Wigan to win the game on Sunday. There's a very slim possibility that Wigan could get a draw but it's so slim it's on the verge of surpassing Keira *boney* Knightly.

Man U have put themselves in this position just to make the victory all the sweeter. Chelsea will win their game and still lose the title ;)

Is it fair to judge the EPL as a whole when mid table teams are battling with the cream of Portugal, Germany, Holland, France etc?
