Rio Ferdinand has been named as England captain for Wednesday's clash with France in Paris

The Manchester United star will lead out England at Stade de France as Fabio Capello continues his policy of rotating the captaincy.
The Italian is keen to rotate the captain's armband between players before naming his full-time captain for the 2010 World Cup qualification campaign.
Steven Gerrard was named captain for Capello's first game in charge against Switzerland in the absence of the injured John Terry.
Terry was expected to be named skipper against France after returning to the squad following injury, but Capello has decided to go with Ferdinand.
An FA statement read: "Fabio Capello has confirmed that Rio Ferdinand will captain England against France tomorrow night in Paris.
"Capello has confirmed this continues his policy of rotating the captaincy between players in the friendly matches before confirming a permanent captain for the World Cup qualifying games."

Rio Ferdinand as Captain what are your thoughts on that? Would you want him as permanant Captain?

It was an 8 month suspension for a missed drugs test. A little different from drug charges which suggests something of a criminal nature.

well why would someone miss espically a football player something so important to his career, if he didnt have something to hide

Well Ferdinand said he had forgotten and obviously people are going to say he's guilty because of this but maybe just maybe ... someone is actually telling the truth for once. There's no way to prove it eitherway. He was banned because there was a possibility he was guilty even though there was no way to prove it eitherway.
My point would be what the hell does having a ban for a drug related offense have to do with being an England Captain? Even if he had been on drugs (which i doubt ....in his position as a Man Utd player why take the risk?) what does that have to do with captaining his country? You think he might be still on drugs and it would influence his decisions on the pitch?? ;)
My view is there are a few players that are more than capable in that position and it doesn't really matter who gets the armband. The choice of captain isn't going to win any trophies!

Well as I said there are a few options for Captain and Gerrard is one of them. I don't think it matters too much who it is they're all good options. I don't think Capello will decide on his No1 captain for a few games yet and there's no rush. I think that Terry or Ferdinand would be slightly better choices as they're more verbal than Gerrard.. just about but it doesn't really matter any one of them will do a good job and as mentioned Terry will be skipper for this match.

i guess another reason they mighten want to give gerrad the armband is becuase he and lampard are like twins, the same style and skill,
but hmmmm.... i hope terrry gets over his ordeal of the CL final

Yea think the initial post was based on a media report  As I say doesn't really matter who has it. Capello is trying a few options so should be interesting to see who he goes for in the end ... as full captain I mean.

I think he will go with Terry in the end, but Ferdinand has valid claims.
